Reviews for Twice Sold Tales

Ratings_icons Great place, although, they have cats...

Reese C.

I am from Yakima, Wa and I was visiting the U District Twice Sold Tales for the first time. I was very impressed! They had a HUGE section of Sci-Fi! The prices were significantly higher than in Yakima for used books, but, they also seemed to be in much better condition, and also had an incredibly more vast selection too. So, it kind of balances out. The only deal is, they have cats. I'm highly allergic to cats. However, despite that, the one big furry golden/orange cat didn't set off my allergies. Don't know what's up with that. So, if you want to have a great selection of books, check this place out. Just take your allergy pills (like I always have to) before you go!

Ratings_icons Great Used Bookstore

Twice told Tales is a Used bookstore, independantly owned and operated, and absolutely full of cats. If you are a cat person--which I am--you'll love to browse the massive selection of books while you play with the even larger selection of rescued animals. The bookstore has expanded lately and now carries children's literature and obscure titles. The books are reasonably priced and shopping here beats buying books in the big chain stores.

Ratings_icons great book store

If you love cats and books then this is a great store for you. I recommend anyone that comes to Seattle check this place out as it's one of the coolest book stores that we have. Where else can you go and curl up on a chair with a friendly cat and do a little reading? Even late at night?!?! This place is full of charm and character. Her prices are great for stocking a book collection.

PROS: cats - if you like them
CONS: cats - if you don't like them

Twice Told Tales has a very large selection of gently used books - you can find just about anything here! Great prices and the service friendly. DON'T go here if you're allergic to or hate cats - they are everywhere!

Ratings_icons A Must Visit

Tony D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,492

Twice Sold Tales is a Seattle landmark. Forced to reduce their size and hours recently, they are still THE essential Seattle used bookstore. They are located at a major bus stop for good between-bus browsing. The interior is eclectic and comfortable, with many friendly book cats to keep you company. It's also open very late though not always all night, as it has been in the past. I adopted my cat from them!

PROS: long hours
CONS: bad if you're allergic to cats.

Ratings_icons Great used books and...cats

Eric R. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,491

Twice Sold Sales is a neat little independent bookstore that mostly sells used books. Great selection and prices of used titles, and there are several cats lounging about the store. Very cool! The store is open late and I believe all night on Friday nights, providing a nice alternative to bars/clubs.

Ratings_icons Good bookstore

I love used book stores and this is one of my favorites. The selection is vast and varied, offering much more than a collection of last year's bestsellers. If you visit, be sure to check out the table of books on the sidewalk - it's always good for low prices. And, if you are looking to downsize your own library, Twice Sold Tales buys books, too.

If there is a downside to the store, I would have to say its the cats.

PROS: great selection, good prices, wonderful hours
CONS: cats

Ratings_icons most interesting Twice Sold Tales location

I would generally consider this (Cap.Hill) to be the most interesting of the 3 Twice Sold Tales locations. They have a good selection of books, maybe better than average for some topics like counterculture; they're open late (all night some days!) and they have a lot of nice cats wandering around the store. Also lots of cheap markdowns on the sidewalk out front.

Ratings_icons Once a tail is always worth reading twice

Richard A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,302

Twice sold tails is one of those great places to stock your library. I enjoy books that show thier previous owners habits. It tells a story of how that book was enjoyed. The selection is pretty good for a used book store and the staff is helpful if not sometimes nutty. I have found all kinds of non mainstream books in this store history book of the mind even software. I would not suggest the software because they do not seem to understand that 5 year old computer games are not worththe media they are printed on.

Ratings_icons A great place to buy and sell books

Jennifer B. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,649

Twice sold Tales is a wonderful place not only to buy books but also to sell them. The Queen Anne location recently expanded and is now much larger than it was previously. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only downside is that they have at least 3 cats, so don't go if you are allergic.

Ratings_icons Late night reading.

A book store that's open late, doesn't mind if you bring in your coffee and has kitties sleeping about?!? It's like a little taste of the old country. They have rare and classic finds, the old standards and the interesting treasure like some pulp fiction or old romance novels. The prices are very reasonable and the staff helpful, if a little distracted in their world of books. They also buy books. Nifty.

Ratings_icons Just Good Enough

Shango L. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,066

The best thing about Twice Sold Tales is that they have many locations. I love to trade in my books and then have the opportunity to check the other stores to see who has the books I am looking for. It makes for a much wider selection.

With that being said, the worst thing is that the stores all have cats and tend to stink of them. I have to really moderate how much time I spend in the store because of my allergies too. Books are covered in dander if they have been around awhile and the air is thick with catness.

However, the staff is very helpful if not overly helpful sometimes and that at least means that I am in and out quite quickly.

PROS: Many Locations
CONS: Cats

Ratings_icons Fun and funky (and often funky smelling) used bookstore

Peter H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,594

Twice Sold Tales is one of the many used bookstores in Seattle that seems to have mandatory cars lying around in it. This is quite fun, I love petting the cats, who are usually sleepy. You can certainly find some bargain books among the stacks, sometimes a diamond in the rough, sometimes just hay in the haystack though. They do buy books, in case you are selling. The cats can leave a bit of an odor around though (where are the supposed to pee anyways?). So, not bad for a visit, try to snag a book for much less than a chain store. If you are a used-bookstore person, this place is right up your alley.
