Cheapass has set the bar for game manufacturers, and they set it low. By providing simple, exciting games in the cheapest possible packaging, they've tapped into what gamers want. You can easily head over to a friends place or a cafe with three or four cheapss games, play one or two of them, and be home in time for dinner. Cheapass has bucked the trend towards big monolithic games that cost a fortune and take hours to play. Kudos Cheapass!

PROS: affordable, inventive
CONS: cheap materials

Cheapass Games isn't the kind of game company that you'd want to go and browse. In fact, I've never been to this address in person. The company specializes in alternative games. Their philosophy is that you already own all the pieces you need to play a new game -- coins, dice, cards, play money, and other things you can get from other games -- so why should you pay for them again? What you really need is the rules. Cheapass Games therefore sells you only the bare bones of what you need to play a new game. Games are frequently sold in an envelope and cost around $5. Not every game is a grand slam, but some are great, like Kill Dr. Lucky. Makes for a perfect stocking stuffer for the game player.
