After relocating from the east coast and the Jewish Day School there, we were pleasantly surprised at the passion with which Judaism is taught here. It was not the brow beating rote learning we were familiar with. Being in intermarriage, I

Love this school. My son graduated 3 years ago and is a junior at Interlake HS in the International Baccalaureate Program. He was extremely well prepared for high school and even claimed to be bored in the first 6 months of honors math. He feels solid and confident within himself as a Jew. He has friends of many cultures now but have retained his two closest friends from JDS. I believe he is a better person for having attended this school. Students and families form friendships for life here. My little one is in 3rd grade loving going to school. What more could a parent ask for??

Our daughter has been going to JDS for three years. It is a warm, welcoming, high performing school. Their secular curriculum is top notch, and everyone that comes out of elementary or middle school tops the charts on the tested competencies. The extra education she gets is what makes the school wonderful; they learn how to be good citizens, friends, and people. Yes, a lot of those lessons are couched in Jewish terms, but we feel that most are generally applicable no matter what your religious views.

JDS is a wonderful school, with a strong program in general academics, coupled with an excellent 2nd language and Jewish studies curriculum; the two sides of the JDS coin are completely integrated, so that Jewish studies complements and enhances general studies. But JDS is more than a school; it is a family. The teachers know all of the kids as individuals, and support their individual learning styles. The girls in my daughter's class are all close, without exception; there are no cliques or bullies or outcasts in the class. And the parents all know one another and work together to support their children and the school. We are very reform, more culturally and spiritually Jewish than highly observant, and we feel perfectly at home in the JDS environment.

My family has been at JDS for over six years. The faculty and staff are committed to providing a top-notch education in a caring environment, and we are delighted with the quality of education our two children receive in both Jewish and General Studies. Not only do our children learn the three R's but they are also becoming ethical and knowledgeable Jews.

I have two boys, one in 8th grade and his last year at JDS, and the other in 4th grade. We LOVE this school! My kids have received a world class education, have a warm and nurturing environment to learn in, and are part of a wonderful community! JDS was there for our family when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and when my husband suffered a heart attack. The parents, students and staff were wonderful. Making meals, sending good wishes, and taking extra special care of our kids! My 8th grader just had his Bar Mitzvah and without the excellence in education that JDS promises, he would not have achieved what he did that day. JDS has given our kids the foundation for what they need in life. We are thrilled to have our kids at JDS, it is a home away from home!

PROS: excellence in education, warm, loving teachers and staff, beshert

My son spent K-8th, graduated last year; of his class of 32, 29 were together since grade K; a great "family" atmosphere.
My daugher is in 7th grade currently. Overall very good teachers. Some flux in leadership in the past few years, but the parents and board have done a tremendous job maintaining a culture of excellence and optimism. Terrific new head of school.

Sending our 3 kids to JDS (two graduates, one incoming) is one of the best gifts they got from us. Our children received an outstanding education that competes in quality with any private school, while learning Jewish values, tradition and history. The JDS community is caring and you and your kids become part of the JDS family far beyond gradation night.

PROS: Outstanding private education at a great value!

This is the 8th consecutive year I've had my children in this school and it is wonderful! Both the General and Judaic studies curriculum are very strong and we feel our children are receiving an excellent education. Add this to small class sizes, highly qualified and caring teachers and a great feeling of community - this is a terrific environment for them.

If you're looking for a Jewish school in Seattle - this is it. JDS is a nurturing, caring environment. A school where children also learn the importance of contributing in a positive way to society and the world around us. Children from different grades work together on projects. It's a great place!

This school calls itself Jewish, but after being there three years, I felt nothing but disappointment. First of all some of the meanest people I have ever met teach there and the past head of school and the current one are not Jewish. Lots of politics going on here. It is all about money, not about caring, nurturing or educating about children! Families keep leaving the school, gee I wonder why?
