This place is definitely stuck in the past, which is cool if you're nostalgic as I tend to be sometimes. But the problem is this guy named Mike the manager who has all the tact of Gordon Ramsey on steroids. Bossing everybody around, even the cooks--no way. No cook worth his salt would ever stand for that. The place just has a smell that makes me -- just sick. It's so old it just makes me sick. The only thing reasonably good here is the prime rib dip, french dip and the prime rib--but again, the smell of this place and the manager just told me "go away." Conceited, self-centered, thinks he knows it all--not a good way to run a restaurant, he's a legend in his own mind. The servers tell me they cannot count how many excellent cooks they've lost because of him.

We've dined here twice and both occasions (one year apart) were below average experiences. Service is slow and for the food they serve, better off going to Applebees!

Pros: lots of parking

Cons: smells like smoke, bad service, dirty bathroom

My family and I drive from EVERETT every chance we get. to eat here. This is absolutely my favorite restaurant. Great service, everything on the menu is delicious, especially the French Dip. I would so recommend this place and wish I lived closer.

Pros: Best French Dip I have ever had

The last reviewer is wrong and/or has terrible taste. Wedgwood Broiler has the best bloody mary in the city. Heavy on vodka and light on the horseradish and Worcestershire, just the way I like it. And the food is way better than Denny's. Order the London Broil, French Dip, Pott Roast or open-faced turkey or pork sandwich smothered in gravy and you're in for comfort food heaven. And the bar is the classiest joint 1976 ever saw. Sink into the couch at table 11, sip a stiff drink and you'll forget the rest of yuppified Seattle ever happened.

Pros: Cheese-Its on the salad

Cons: It's not closer to my house in Ballard

My boyfriend and I were in the mood for some "comfort food" and we heard this was the place to try. Needless to say, we won't try it again. Service was ok but the food was mush. Leave your dentures at home, your gums should work just fine.

Old-fashioned steakhouse atmosphere. Friendly waiters. Fast service. Best London Broil in town. Prices are acceptable. Well established restaurant with well established clientele

Big value, little price!

My roommate and I love the Wedgewood! And we've eaten at our share of restaurants over the years (1 star to 4 star). The Wedgewood is homestyle cooking, excellent service, and very reasonable prices! In the mood for a rib sticking breakfast on the weekend? Go the Wedgewood! $5.95 for an enormous breakfast. This works great for us as I can usually only eat about 3/4 of mine and my roomie (6ft 3) can have the extra! Most of the staff has been there 8+ years and the place has only changed hands 3 times in over 50 years!

I have lived in this neighborhood for over 20 years and the food at the "broiler" is so tired. Their menu has not changed in any meaningful way in the last 20 years. Most of the servers have been there on average of 15-20 years and the majority of them are cranky. The service is subtandard as well. I can't imagine why it is on the "Best Steaks in Seattle" list. The food is more "institutional" than anything else. The only "fresh" vegatable they have is broccoli, all their other veggies come out of a can. What a joke. I don't mean to rip on the food, but there are so many other restaurants in the neighborhood that are so much better, the only reason to go to the Broiler is for their libations. The bar is where it's at.... the Broiler has Cristy and Kathy who are the real reason most come to this establishment. They free pour the drinks and you always get your monies worth especially during Happy Hour.

This place has so much potential, but the owner refuses to change the menu. Hey how about this...fresh local meats, seafood, veggies, and other ingredients. Get rid of all the institutional "Sysco" products and try going fresh/homemade. The NW has so much to offer and the Broiler is stuck in the 70's mentality.

I've already said too much, but check out the other great local North end establishments, because I feel you will be disappointed with the food at the Wedgwood Broiler.

Ragu Boy must have a chip on his shoulder (and no, I'm not an employee -- just a satisfied customer). This place has excellent hamburgers, and some of the best reasonably-priced steaks in town. It's certainly not fancy, but their hamburger dip is simply perfect (definitely my favorite) and the chicken fried steak is the best I've found in Seattle. We always eat in the bar (not the restaurant) and the waitresses know us by name and are always great.

Citysearch readers rated the hamburgers here as no. 10 on the Best of Seattle list. Wow! What were you thinking? Maybe Wedgwood employees write a lot of reviews?

Having read the reviews on Citysearch, and seeing the high ratings for the hamburger, my wife and I decided to go there last Friday night (3/14). At first it appears as the reviews have stated; kind of a throw-back to the place your grandparents used to like. Complete with some older staff and an older decor, like an older steakhouse.

The service was deathly slow, but we had read that too. The salad was as advertised; covered with Cheese Nips which actually wasn't too bad. We both ordered drinks and they were strong and well prepared.

The hamburger, on the other hand, was made of quality beef and the buns were toasted, That was the extent of their positive attributes. The patties were overcooked (even crispy on the edges) and doused with some god-awful seasoning that was probably loaded with MSG and offset the BBQ grilling flavor so that they tasted like charcoal lighter fluid. We both had indigestion for the rest of the evening as a momento of our experience. We did order our fries overcooked and, of course they were overcooked, imagine that.

The waitress was inattentive and oblivious to what was going on and who was trying to flag her down. She didn't come back and ask us if the food was good she only came back when we were done and gave us the bill. No where on the bill were instructions as to how to pay it. There is usually something like 'please pay your server' or 'please pay at the cashier' and of course my multiple attempts to flag down our waitress were unsuccessful. So we found the cashier and paid the bill and there was no positive dialogue at all. No 'how was your meal' or 'thanks, please come back' nothing and nothing will ever bring us back.

They had all the tact of a AM/PM clerk and, surprisingly enough, the hamburgers were like the ones at AM/PM with that phony BBQ taste.

Pros: I lived to write this review

Cons: food, service, atmosphere, value

.

When I lived in Seattle I ate at the Wedgwood Broiler almost daily. The food is always excellent. The Monday Night London Broil special is the best. However, They serve London Broil every day. Most of the waitresses have been at the Wedgwood Broiler for more than five years and the service is always excellent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
Dereck, the owner, treats his customers like royality.

I didn't really know what to expect when we went to the Wedgwood Broiler. I thought it might be like The 13 coins restaurant, which is cool in a kitschy kind of way. However, it turns out that the Wedgwood Broiler is NOT a place for a big crowd of 20-somethings looking for a retro night. This place is for families with kids and for older folks looking to a 'nice' meal out.

You walk in the "In" door and this place takes you back to a different time. Dark wood walls, tall booths with coffee cups already on the table and food being kept warm under orange, glowing lights. The waitresses, who have all been there for 20+ years, look like your 3rd grade best friend's mom and they are warm and welcoming.

The food is rather bland, but I have to say, I grinned when our house salads came out -- served with baco-bits and cheez-its. We ordered a quesadilla & mini corn dogs for the kids and we each had a French Dip. Very plain, just the way the grandparents would have liked it.

No, the food is not world class, but our service was great and it felt kind of comforting to step back in time a bit. As we walked out the "Out" door, our kids were happy and my husband and I both had a smile on our face.

I recently ate at the Wedgewood Broiler and I'm not impressed at all. It's pretty apparent to me that all these good reviews written about it are probably written by the owners or someone who works there. I had a burger and it was served cold. I also got one of their supposedly good Bloody Marys and it was basically tomato juice with a little vodka in it. It took a long time for the food to come out as well. The place is basically a half step above Denny's only more expensive. The wait staff was friendly so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

A friend and I went to the Wedgewood Broiler primarily based on the high ratings here on Citysearch, and they are totally right. The establishment definately had that small-town, on the side of the road diner feel, in a big city. We were seated promptly, the staff was very courteous, making sure that our tea and soda were always suffiently filled.

But the burgers, oh my golly, the burgers. Quite possibly the best burger my taste buds ever feasted upon. Each taste was like a party in the mouth -- it was that tasty. Very delicious and flavorful. I could go on and on, but you must go there yourselves and you too will be as pleased as we were.

My husband and I just moved to the neighborhood and with all the moving, cleaning and painting, we didn't have time to shop or cook. We had read about the Wedgwood Broiler on CitySearch and thought we'd give it a try. We ate there 4 times in a week! Good, homey food at great prices. We enjoyed the turkey dinner with stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy; the french dip sandwich, the excellent baked potatoes and the old school dinner salads with real bacon bits and Cheez-its on top! Also, the apple pie and mud pie are delish. We're glad we live only 5 minutes away. We'll be back.

You never know when one of your favorite places will suprise you. Recently I was looking for a new place to have breakfast on the weekend and my waitress said "well you know we have breakfast here on weekends don't you?" No I didn't but what do you know, this place never lets me down - one of the best kept secrets in town and a lot less expensive.

This place is great. The lounge is the best, mix of people in their 20s and 30s along side tables full of happening folks (who probably have been coming since their 30s) in their 70s. Love the drinks, love the staff. Food is good, especially if you want some meat and potatoes.
Fair warning for non-smokers, its also old school in that smoking is pretty common in the lounge.

Finding a restaurant that hits all three these days is hard. Great place, great food and great service are what I found at the Wedgwood Broiler. I like the friendly atmosphere and the fact that it's a place the whole family can come to. Another great thing about this restaurant that we noticed was that the owner came out and talked to guests to see how their meal was and just to say hello.
