I (along with my extended family) have been coming to this office for many years, so we speak from experience. If you knew this veterinary office in the glory of when Rick owned and operated it, you will not want to return under its current ownership and management. They no longer care about their long time customers or their pets. It is ONLY all about nickel and diming you, and the bottom dollar. The prices for everything have gone WAY up, and the quality of service (from the front office to the vets) are in the gutter. This is such a sad, sad ending for a clinic that was practically a legend with Rick there; I loved and felt so comfortable bringing my pets there. Do yourself a favor and find a vet that actually cares about your pet, and keep driving past this place.

These other reviews are a real feel-good fest. I am going to go with a dose of honesty in an effort to bring some value to this review service.

This office has been my vet for over 20 years. They are exactly as I have rated it, satisfactory. If someone was in the area and close I would tell them to give them a call and see if they like the people.. There are a few in the office who are very good at what they do and it shows.

My dog was an 'All Pet' puppy from the pet store that used to be next door to the office (when perfect look was there too.) Dr. Rick was his vet for 18 years. This included operations to remove lumps and a barrage of shots, procedures and in the end pain medication for a year or so. At the end after over a year, they decide to tell me the pain med comes in a generic which could have saved me money, but they told me too late. I got a break on one script.. thanks..

Also, when the end came, I requested Dr Rik to euthanize the pet he helped me take care of for 18 years. I think Dr. Eric is an amazing vet (in fact I think he did his surgery).. but after all the money I spent I did not get Dr. Rick, it was Dr. Eric who put him down for me.. again not what I had asked for and I was lead to believe my request would be granted but it was not.

A note from the office would have been a nice touch, as I read these reviews and see some people get that.. I was however not one of those lucky people. Maybe if they had done this for me I would not feel like all I am is a wallet to them.

A solid vet who knows what they are doing... you get what you pay for with this office and that's it.

How would I improve this office? I would add some sort of digital telephone system to cue calls.. You get tired of listening to busy signals when phoning them. Perhaps a website would bring a platform where they could provide tips on how to make our furry friends lives better... offer a loyalty program for long term customers... a way to remind of shots or regular treatment. An online alternative to listening to busy signals where the office could place a call to you when they have time (since it seems to be a problem on your time.)

I have a new dog and they are still the vet I use.. But my eyes are always peeled for a better one in town. Because I do think it can be done better. They are outgrowing their office, the space is too small and keeping your pet calm and away from the variety of animals come through the door is a challenge.. Oh and if you want my pet weighed, then do it yourself.. the self-service weigh station in the small cramped space is ridiculous.

Maybe they will see this and make some improvements.. but probably not

We have gone to Orchards Veterinary Clinic for over 25 years. We live far across town and over the years have tried other vets closer to home but none compared to the family atmosphere and caring doctors at Orchards. They've seen us through the heart wrenching loss of our furry family members, the worry and fear of ill pets, and the joy in the newcomers.

Years ago when one of our Labs died suddenly at the age of 6 Dr. Rick was just as upset as we were. Last month Dr. Eric had to put down our old Lab Tucker and we received a beautiful handwritten note from him, and signed by the entire staff.

These doctors and their staff truly care about animals and are like old friends when we need to go see them. Your pet couldn't possibly be in better hands.

I love this vet clinic. We drive from Hillsboro to see Dr Rick. Yes, there is always a wait, but this is because they never turn someone away if they need to see a vet that day...even if the reason is not a dramatic emergency. I appreciate this, and have taken advantage of this several times with my greyhounds. They also stay and discuss your pet's care with you for as long as you need. I never feel rushed.
I am not looking for bargain vet care, but it is really nice that they don't make you spend a small fortune for tests that will not change the outcome of your pet's care. Yes I could have spent $4000 for an MRI when my dog had seizures, and I may have learned why she suddenly developed them. But the truth is, it was most likely a brain tumor and the seizures were uncontrollable. So the outcome would have been the same. Instead, we chose a humane euthanasia, and the drs and clinic staff were just as distraught as we were.
Doc Rick has such a nice touch with the animals that my dogs are relaxed when they see him. My afghan even let him examine her (with other vets, she cowered in a corner). He is gentle and has a great touch with the animals.
I will take the wait for the excellent care we receive!

I've been going to Orchards Vet for many years and Dr Rick has helped my many pets live very long lives. Some of my pets over the years developed conditions such as diabetes and Addisons disease which needed special care but these pets still lived much longer than their average breed does. I was there when Dr Eric was new and he fit in right away and I am equally happy to have him care for my pets. When it came time for some of my pets "to go" it almost felt as if they were losing a special friend also. Very caring and sensitive. I would never consider going to another vet and I highly recommend Eric and Rick to everyone with animals.

Dr. Rick is my hero!!! A year ago we lost our 13 year old yorkie, Buffy. We had to have her put down due to kidney disease. Throughout this heartbreaking experience, Dr. Rick was there for us, trying everything he could to save her and being compassionate when there was no more that could be done. I also believe he saved my other little girl, Pixie, now 14, when she was 9. We went to Canada a year ago and adopted a rescue Yorkie, without realizing how ill he was. Three days later we took him in to see Dr. Rick, only to find out our MoJo had kidney disease. I now realized his weakness was because he was almost dead, not because he was nearly starved to death. Dr. Rick really cared, he took the time and effort to save Mo. It took a lot of treatments and care, but now a year later Mo is still with us and such a joy. He isn't the same dog we picked up a year ago. Although he still needs fluid treatments, he has gained weight, has more energy and has an adorable personality. We believe he is quite old and know he has had a terrible life, most likely caged, since the muscle in his legs aren't developed. He sleeps quite a lot, but he has these days where he will chase a squirrel, play hide and seek, and prance around like a horse. I'm not sure if another vet would have tried so hard to save MoJo and keep the fees be so reasonable. Thanks Dr. Rick and all of the Assistants in the office!

1st visit.......I have never gone to a vet before that took your cat in to the back for a routine check-up with out me being present. This bothers me. I thought this was the time in which you voice any concerns you may have about your pets health, while the Doctor looks your pet over and gives them their shots...in front of you. My cat was taken from my arms and returned short, short, moments later (almost to short) handed back to me and all done. What? How do I know you gave him anything, or what you even gave my cat.

2nd visit............I dropped my cat off to get neutered. When I went to pick him back up he was really, really, really loopie and couldn't keep his balance. To be expected I guess, he had been knocked out after all for the procedure. When I got home he he was trying to jump up on things to lay down, he kept falling and falling right on where his you know whats used to be. I though that must be very painful for him. After about the 10th time of watching him do this to himself, I pick him up and his nails had been cut off. My cat is not a scratcher. In fact he is so calm that I take him every where with me, in the car, in stores and he just rides my sholder. In the vet office I don't use a carrier becauses he just sits on my lap. I don't have to hold him there he just stays, even when dogs come in to the office. So I see no reason for them to do this to him. This makes me very angry.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST Vet I have ever been to. I don't believe they have any holistic experience, but for routine checkups and surgeries - I wouldn't go anywhere else. Rick is super friendly, kind and gentle with your loved one. A busy office, but still feels personal. Super reasonable on price too. It's possible you could find cheaper elsewhere, but you won't get the superb experience and service that you get at Orchards Vet Clinic.

While the people are nice, every single time we have had an appointment, we have waited for over 30 minutes. One time, we waited 50 minutes before being seen. I understand that they take emergencies first; however, I know that on most of the occasions in question, there were no emergencies....they simply were running late because they overbook. The last time (today) I waited 35 minutes. There were no emergencies. There were only 2 people in the waiting area. I finally told them I needed to be seen or reschedule. They went "in the back" and came out to say, "We can take your dog into the back and take care if this" (routine shots). They took my dog into the back through the door they usually use as an exit for pets who have been kept and are being picked up. Five minutes later, I paid and was gone. It was very clear they had mismanaged my file and if I hadn't have spoken up, I would have been waiting until they closed. No excuse. My time is valuable. Their time is valuable (as you will discover when you pay your bill). Why shouldn't my time be as equally valued as theirs? I will be finding a new vet who practices punctuality.

As a large dog owner throughout my life I have to tell you that Dr.Rick Weidenaar is the most skilled, compassionate and intelligent vet my dogs have known! From routine visits to euthanasia (old age), Dr Rick talked to the 'gals' as he examined them, gently handled them and used good sense in his treatments. Because of his care and knowledge my 'girls' have the best health, emotionally & physically, possible. This fact helps my health as well. As for the crowded wait room & usual wait times - just remember as you tap your feet, roll your eyes - popularity is a sign of a great vet clinic and that the time you wait will be given back to you when it's your turn. Highly trusted and recommended Clinic.

i have a yard full of strays who were full of fleas so i went to orchards vet clinic in despair because i wanted to help the cats but could not afford to. they made me feel so good, gave me all the time i needed (even though the waiting room was packed!) and answered all my questions. i knew then and there i would never go anywhere else. they gave me ideas on how to help the cats, showed me the best and most cost-effective way to flea them and just showed lots of compassion and patience. and i noticed that all the return clients were so upbeat and talkative with the front desk staff ... like they were all old friends. awesome place!

Ever since we moved to Washington we have taken our dogs here. They have an excellent staff that know what they are doing and are very skilled. They are a vet that I can trust with my pets health. One thing to remember is that they only take dogs and cats so this will be a problem for small animal or reptile owners.

I used to be sold on this clinic. Unfortunately, for two of my cats, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr. Eric prescribed a medicine (don't remember the name - it's football shaped, though) for one of my cats that ended up killing her. Apparently, it's only supposed to be for dogs, and causes damage to the internal organs of cats. I lost her to renal failure. Turned out she was hyperthyroid, which is very common in cats. She should have been on a thyroid medicine. By the time I took her to a different vet, who discovered the hyperthyroidism, the renal failure was advanced enough that it was too late. My other kitty Dr. Eric prescribed a steroid for. Turned out she was hyperthyroid, too, and, also, should have been on thyroid medicine, not steroids. I can't talk about Dr. Weidenaar, because he never saw my cats, but if your pets see Dr. Eric, be careful. Maybe he's better than he used to be a few years back, but my pets lives are too important to ever take a chance on seeing him again.

I've been taking my 11 year old Black Lab, Shelby, here since she was a baby and they have always been wonderful. Shelby has not aged well, she had a "stroke" a few years aga, has Thyroid problems and now suffers from Arthritis. Dr. Eric has always taken his time with me and explained everything thoroughly, he doesnt rush or try to force feed me info. They let me bring Shelby in at 6:00 one night when we had an scary emergency and never made me feel anything but welcome and cared for when they stayed there 90 minutes late for us. I recommend this office to EVERYONE I know.

I had been taking my Elvis (a yorkie) to Banfield clinic for a couple of years. Then he got very sick and Banfield just brushed it off. I spent many hours and alot of money in the emergency clinic on 4Th plain. ( they were awesome by the way) They treated Elvis with care and love but he was getting worse. They sent me over to orchards clinic where they took him in right away, They x-rayed him and came back to tell me he had cancer and it was to far along to do anything for him. The Dr stayed in the room with me while i cried my heart out. Elvis meant everything to me, the Dr didn't even know me but was compassionate and knew how I was hurting. He never hurried me to leave. We put Elvis to sleep. I would say if maybe you had to wait a few extra minutes or things didn't go as planned maybe they are helping someone get through a heart breaking ordeal which I am sure if it happened to you, you would also be grateful for their compassion for you. All of my animals will never go any place else.

I don't know about you but, I wouldn't go to a doctor before finding out about him/her. I called to find out how many of their doctors deal with giant breed dogs. Many vets don't understand the diet and other unusual requirements of a giant breed dog. I want to make sure the vet I take my dog to does. The receptionist told me all their doctors have a lot of experience with big dogs. I said I would like to speak with who ever she though gets most of the Mastiffs. After holding for a minute she came back and let me know the doctors don't "interview". At which point I let her know I'm not going to take my dog to just and doctor. I thanked her for her time and said I will find somewhere else that is willing to show me they know how to work with a giant breed...she said good bye and hung up.

Keep in mind not every graduate was at the top of his/her class, let alone the additional knowledge you need to know about giant breeds. I would not suggest any clinic that will not talk to you about their qualifications and history. Would you take an animal to a clinic because they receptionist says all the doctors are really good?

After holding for a minute she came back and let me know the doctors don't "interview". At which point I let her know I'm not going to take my dog to just and doctor. I thanked her for her time and said I will find somewhere else that is willing to show me they know how to work with a giant breed...she said good bye and hung up.

Keep in mind not every graduate was at the top of his/her class, let alone the additional knowledge you need to know about giant breeds. I would not suggest any clinic that will not talk to you about their qualifications and history. Would you take an animal to a clinic because they receptionist says all the doctors are really good?

I have two Welsh Pembroke Corgi's. I have been taking my oldest to Orchard's Vet since he was 8 weeks old. When both pups developed "poo issues" for two months on and off, everyone one there was so helpful and nice! They were always very welcoming, and comforting since I was stressed with my sick puppies.

Dr Rick and Dr Sutton are very good doctors. Dr Rick is my favorite, but hard to get without an appointment.

The only downside is they are not open on the weekends, but they reccommend Orchards Emergency Vet down the road. Over all, I have had a wonderful experience there and will not take my dogs elsewhere.

I'm so sorry "Part 2 of More Fluff" had a bad experience at this clinic. I've been going there for over18 years and been very happy. I know the wait with a appointment is frustrating, but there is usually a reason. My Schnauzer caused a long wait for a few people when he was attacked by a coyote. I was impressed with the immediate medical care he received as I arrived at the front counter.
I'm sure Dr Weidenaar is aware that the front reception area gets hectic at times, but, this clinic takes walk-ins and if we are willing to wait to be seen we must be patient. I bring a book or a magazine.
As for Dr Weidenaar and Dr Atwell they both show professionalism and compassion with my animals and I am so grateful to both of them for their care.
I've seen a few new receptionists come and go over the last 18 months and a few can still be rude without realizing it, but it really makes me very happy to see 2 girls that have been there for over 16 years, and one longer than that. That tells me alot about Dr Weidenaar.
I recommend this clinic to all my friends, family and neighbors. Prices are very reasonable and they are so accommodating to our needs.

Wow, I had no idea that my "more fluff" comment would send people into a frenzy but really they could improve on their overall process so that people are not stuck waiting to check in and pick up. That is frustrating to say the least.

Also, when I picked up my dog from her appointment she had been left in her kennel so long that she had an wet herself and when I picked her up there was no mention of it. It was awful to get out to the car and see that my "baby" had been laying in her own urine for who knows how long and then they just gave her back to me without a mention of it.

So rant all you want, my experience wasn't the greatest and my expectations are clearly different than yours. That is why I wrote my review so that others can draw their own conclusions or to see the good and the bad.

I didn't bash the doctor or say that the procedure (dental cleaning) was subpar, but picking up my dog in the state that I did was frustrating.

I did call the next day and let them know what happened and the lady was nice enough but they couldn't even remember who if anyone had let the dog out during the day.

So, that is what I meant by saying I had higher expectations to all those that thougth I was using my dog as a "fashion accessory" or putting down people looking for low-cost care.

BTW - my dog is not a fashion accessory but a member of my family and she's a large dog who's very housebroken so her accident couldn't have come without some whining or trying to get someone's attention!!!

Calm down people!

My dogs are not fashion accessories, and I find it ridiculous that someone would dis this excellent clinic for not pampering her enough! In my mind, if your focus is not on what's best for your pets, you probably don't deserve to have them.

I travelled down from Longview to see this vet, and won't use anyone else now. They saw my injured dog on an emergency basis, and although I was a walk in and had to wait, they gave me their undivided attention and took their time when we got in there. Dr. Sutton was very kind, and he impressed me by stopping to comfort and say "I'm sorry" to the dog, when he accidentally brushed his back and startled him while talking to me after the exam! THAT is a person who genuinely cares about animals, and that will always get my respect, and my business. I had a vet like that back in Jersey for 20 years, and it took me over 4 years out here to find someone like him.

I've gone to vets here with the pretty offices and fawning staff who charge extra for every little thing, but will find a new one if they don't measure up in compassion and caring for my animals. The vet that I've been using for over 2 years wanted to knock my little guy out and do several expensive tests on him after he fell, with the full intention of merely passing the case on to a specialist! I'm not about stressing or anaesthetising my dog more than necessary, and that was unacceptable. (I had also recently asked them for a price on neutering him and fixing his hernia, and they couldn't even give me one. Was told that it would be a minimum of $400-500 for the surgery, with an undetermined amount of money for blood work and tests! That was BS, too.)

I have another appointment with Orchards for x-rays, and they assured me that a concrete estimate for the combined surgeries will not be a problem. That's just good business, and it's not the money so much as the care. The vet that I was using would have let my little guy suffer because I didn't agree to the extra money they wanted just to be the middleman, and he's been a regular patient there since I got him! Orchards had no stake in keeping a repeat patient with 6 pets like my (former) vet did, but took excellent and immediate care of him, with no hassles. Much more importantly, they can treat his knee injury completely, up to and including the surgery that he may need, which minimizes his stress, and the dangers of repeated anaesthesia for a miniature dog.

Orchards was recommended to me by his breeder, who lost several pups to substandard care at a fancy vet in Vancouver last year. She won't use anyone else now either, and I understand why. Experiences vary, but mine there was stellar. I'd recommend Orchards to anyone, they were very competent and caring.

I really enjoy this clinic, the staff is very nice, tho it does take a while to get seen, its worth it, they are straight to the point and have several options for you in terms of how you would like your dogs to be seen-we just need test done, so they told me we dont have to have a consult they'll just take them in the back and to the test-which is nice, sicne we just had our yearly apppointment. Plus you can not beat their prices!! I called another vet and they were going to charge me $44 per dog per exam, 40 for the same tests that Orchards clinic charges $22 for~plus at orchards we get the results the same day instead of waiting for them to come back, I would highly recomend them to anyone

We have been bringing our doxies to see Dr. Eric for the past 5 years. The ladies up front are so warm and welcoming, even during the busy hours they have a smile on their face when you come in the door!
Dr. Eric has always been very attentive to the needs of our animals and has gone out of his way to make us feel comfortable with procedures that need to be done. I know my dogs are getting the best care (and love) around when we come to Orchards. It can be a bit of a wait at times, but it's WORTH it everytime!

We've used this clinic for several years. The vets are great, office staff is kind and caring, but the disorganization of the front office has caused us to go elsewhere. Twice we have made appts only to find when we got there that they have no record of the appt, causing us to wait HOURS to see a vet. Twice I have been placed on hold for over five minutes before giving up and hanging up. Getting a busy signal when you call is typical, which means it takes several tries just to get through. As much as we love the vets and as happy as we have been with the care our animals have received, we're taking our animals elsewhere. Being closed on Saturdays is another problem, and another reason to move on to a vet who is more interested in being attainable to their client.

I was shocked to see 2 people felt they had a bad experience at Orchards Vet. I have been going there for 9 years with 2 Labradors and 2 cats. I have had nothing but wonderful care from Dr. Eric and the gals up front. It is worth the wait to get in. As far as I am concerned that's why there is a wait - they are the best in town! They have been there after hours for emergency stitches for my lab more then once when I have called at 5:55 pm on a Friday. The gals remember your name and your pets name when you show up which amazes me as busy as they are. I recommend them to my coworkers and friends and not one of them has complained and like it there. Of coarse this doesn't help the wait to send more people. It's the care/diagnosis of the animal that is important not big prices and spa like treatment. I highly recommend them!

I find it almost unbelievable that someone says they like 'more fluff' and that if you are looking for in inexpensive option for your pet this is a good place... ARE YOU KIDDING? I love my girls enough to take them to the Best of the Best, I love them enough to not care ABOUT FLUFF as long as they receive the BEST care, and that is WHY I will never take them anywhere OTHER than Orchards to Dr. Rick.High Maintenance and Ignorant are not the same thing... but believe me, one less person in that waiting room is fine by me. Dr. Rick saved my yorkie's life, he came in after hours 5 day in a row, and 2x both Sat. and Sun. so she could get treatment but still be able to go home with me. He said she would have less stress if she could go home with me and come back for treatments. I held her for 6 days we were not sure if she was going to make it... because of Dr. Rick she did. That was over a year ago, and she is healthy and happy. I used to breed Maltese Pups, now I just enjoy my 2 healthy Yorkshires who deserve the VERY BEST. .. It doesn't matter if I get spa treatment there, my girls are what matter. THAT is how anyone who owns a pet should feel. Sorry about the rant, but some people should not be pet owners.Thank you Dr. Rick and ALL the staff at Orchards, I have seen SO MANY vets over 20 years and FINALLY have found my last Vet. There is NO OTHER clinic like Orchards... we are very lucky to have Dr. Rick in the NW!

Dr. Rick is the best Vet I have ever seen. I have had dogs, cats, Rats and even an orphaned Possom. Orchards Vet has always provided my babies with the best care. you can tell a vet really cares when they cry with you when they have to put a baby to sleep. People please take the time to get to know these pro's. the staff is amazing. Kind regards Patrick Foley

Coming up on 20 years of bringing over 12 cats & 2 dogs to this clinic, with several other experiences including Dove Lewis & the 4th Plain emergency clinics, makes me dread the day Dr. Weidenaar decides to retire. (The emergency clinics have been great for us on weekend--last rites experiences)

The first clue this is THE place to bring animals used to be the presence of breeders, pro greyhounds and their handlers...now it's the fact that it can take quite a while to see the Dr, and it's absolutely worth it. The staff is compassionate, the Drs do what's needed and talk it over with you in layman's terms, and you never feel you're being urged to generate income over and above what will make your pet well. At the same time, the experience of years is reassuring as you get practical advice and still feel heard, regarding your ability to cope with your animal's condition.

I think there are no bad vets in Vancouver, but it's a shame they can't all do the same type of business as this group of professionals. It's a hurry-up-and-take-care-of-me kind of world now, but spending an hour to see Drs Rick, Eric and Dr. Sutton might serve as a reminder of the years they've spent taking care of our beloved pets. My hat's off to them.

The people up front help make it a bearable and different experience than most waiting rooms despite the semi-chaotic atmosphere at rush hour. By the way, I've seen some slow times: 10 AM, occasionally just before 3 when people come to pick up all the little post-op "kids", and once at 7:30 I was first in when I suspected my young male cat was "plugged", Dr Rick took him as soon as he arrived and he was fine in no time.

Again, it would be nice to know the Drs had time to themselves, but I dread the day I have to change vets!

I have recently moved to CA and can I say...I soooo miss Dr. Sutton and Orchards Vet Clinic!! Now I have to start all over again and they will be a tough act to follow.
I moved to Orchards in 2004 and it took me 2 years of visiting various vets to find someone I could trust to give my dogs the best care and not drain my bank account. I found that Dr. Sutton, a very kind and compassionate veterinarian approaches diagnosis thoughtfully and suggests the most reasonable approach to treating the problem--meaning he, nor the other vets at the clinic are ones to suggest unnecessary tests. If the tests are needed, he will definitely suggest them and will give you various options for treatments as opposed to pushing for the most expensive one when a less expensive one will most likely work just as well. Dr. Sutton also takes the time to help me understand the problem and what to look for. He takes the time to physically examine my dogs and take all symptoms past and present into account.
This is a really busy clinic most of the time--especially after work hours---but the staff are nonetheless very caring and very friendly. I had to have my old lab put to sleep this past March and not only Dr. Sutton, but the whole staff were genuinely compassionate and sent a sympathy card signed by each staff member. And they continued to be so for some time.
I've never once had an even remotely bad experience. The only drawback I can mention is that I think it's time for them to relocate and expand to a larger space to accomodate their many clients--two and four-legged.

We have never had a bad experience with Dr. Rick, Dr. Eric and crew, they are always kind, compassionate and caring. Rick saved my poodle puppies life from a serious bacterial infection almost 12 years ago and he is still alive and doing well. They have also treated our other dog and a couple of our cats. They are busy, but it is worth the wait. They also work with you on the price of treatments and never try to gauge you.
Thank you Orchards vet. Clinic for all that you do!

First time in. We just moved and got all of our animals in with a new vet. I most liked the way they knew so many people by name and their animals names. Was pleased that the care of my dogs was wonderful and very loving. You could just tell that they were there because they wanted to be. I had one lab fixed and had her shots. My other old girl just needed shots. She also had some blood work done. Not pressured for a full work up, just enough to check on a previous condition. The results were what I thought. The vet said we could run more tests and talk about treatment, but that it was up to me, my call. You wouldn't know she is sick, other than the fact that she moves slow. He gave her something for pain at my request. Was really glad to find another animal clinic after moving away from our old one. It's hard when you think about switching Dr's for your babies. They are my girls!! All four of them! Just a side note: Orchards Veterinary doesn't do licencing so had to go to St. Francis down the street. What a difference! That place was empty to start with. It had an odor that I can't describe. It also took 1 hr and 37 min. to get the licenses. That's with all the paper work filled out, the counties and the clinics. I got put on the back burner I don't know how many times. There were twice as many people behind the counter and 1/3rd the amount of clients and I and others still had to wait too long. They kept getting mixed up as to who was next and what they were there for. Then there is this one old lady that just walks around talking and trying to socialize, not sure what position she was or job description she had. Just glad I don't use that one! I am thrilled with with Orchards!!

I'm sorry to hear that Kristi had a bad experience with Orchards Vet, I have never had anything but fabulous service there.

I am a second-generation customer at Orchard's Vet. I remember Dr. Eric crying with us when our Labrador past away, when I was eight years old. All of the staff and doctors are so devoted to every animal that comes in.

The front office can get a little hectic, I"ll admit. However, they always take walk-ins (so much cheaper than Banfield, where I had a guilt-trip like experience and a hefty bill to boot), and no matter how busy, they take their time with your animal.

I now live in Portland and although I have tried, have not found a vet that compares in care and affordability. Completely worth the commute to know my pets are in good hands.

I took my mother's silky terrier in with an abscess on his lower stomach. The vet said it was an egg laid by a fly, which happens sometimes. He tried to get me to leave the room while he performed the procedure. I refused. He took a pair of tweezers and poked a hole in the abscess to drain it. Needless to say, my dog yelped in pain. A sterile lancet is what should have been used. No cleansing of the area. Nothing to numb the area.
My mom's dog was visibly upset all afternoon from the trauma inflicted by this uncaring, too busy to be bothered with good technique, veterinary practice. That kind of disregard for a patient is inexcusable. The only thing that would make me feel better is if I could do to this vet exactly what he did to my animal.
Needless to say, it was the last time this vet touched this dog. NEVER again would I entrust the care of an animal to this clinic.

Not sure if I would be a repeat customer. No frills and a bit on the unorganized side (at least up front). For those that need to save $ and get pet care I'm sure it's a good option. I do find I like a little more "fluff" in my care though, call me high maintenance.

Orchard's vet clinic is the best anywhere. The staff and doctors always are helpful and respectful of your opinion and ideas. At one point I had 5 great Danes and through the years I have had 12 dogs since I started with Rick 14 years ago.

Rick as a great diagnostician and knows more about canine movement than any vet I have ever known.

My sons bring there pets and everyone who ask for a vet's name from me -- I give them Dr. Rick's number.

(One hint - if he is closed and you need after hour help - use the emergency vet they recommend, or use Dove Lewis in Portland --- please do the use the "24 hour vet" around the corner in Orchards - I think the they charge way too much and do a very imperfect job at diagnosis and treatment.

Kristi, you obviously had a very bad experience at this clinic. I wasn't there but this kind of treatment isn't consistent with the many years of treatment I've observed. Perhaps it was a Vet Tech, as I can't imagine Rick or Eric treating a dog as you described. They treat animals as if they were their children. They are well known for their ability to diagnose and treat unusual injuries, infections, and conditions. I would hope you would go to one of the senior Vets, Rick or Eric, and discuss your complaint. I know they would never allow this to happen in their clinic and who ever did this to your mom's dog needs to be confronted. I'm sure the senior vets wouldn't want this person in their clinic. Please give them a chance to get rid of a very poor clinician and give the rest of the patients peace of mind that this will not happen to them.

They saved my puppy's life when he had an unusual infection that my vet at the time wasn't able to diagnose, and I've been taking my competition dogs there ever since. They have never let me down. Doctors are happy to answer questions & they give explanations in language non-medical folks can understand. They care about my dogs as if they belonged to them, and are awesome at sleuthing and treating sport dog injuries.

I had originally gone to the Banfield Pet Clinic located in PetSmart when I first "rescued" my cat. They wanted to charge me $250 to do a bunch of tests on him, and I didn't have the money to do it. They gave me a guilt trip and told me if I cared about keeping the cat, then I would put up the money. I left Banfield feeling angry and manipulated.
The next week, I took him into Orchards vet. The staff was excellent and took such good care of Buster. The Veterinarian was helpful, gave him the shots he needed and a test for worms (all came to about $30). When I told him what Banfield tried to do, he said that all those other tests were unnecessary, and my cat was healthy as could be. Phew! Orchards Vet helped my cat, and my checkbook!!
Highly HIGHLY recommended! WORTH the wait time in the lobby.

We have brought our pets here for about 15 years. The staff is really great with the pets.

The doctors are caring, knowledgable and take the time to explain matters.

We will continue bringing pets here. My only complaint would be based on the very nature of their success. Obviously everyone likes them. It's always VERY busy, VERY crowded (due to the layout of the lobby/reception). I have yet to be there during a "slow" time, so it does feel hectic. But the care level is very good, so we continue to go back.

Dr. Rick has taken care of my dogs for the past 30 yrs. and I would never consider anyone else to care for my well-loved animals. He is tremendously compassionate and skilled. He has performed surgeries that saved my dog's life that were next to impossible because unusual and unpredictable injuries. He gives advise that is for the better health of the animals. He is concerned and sensitive for the feelings of the animals as well as the owners. His gentle voice and ways with owners and pets show his love for each one. He is always willing to help educate owners about their animals.

Pros: Friendly, Sensitive, Caring

Cons: Always very busy (not always bad) but will always find time to work you in for a serious injury or illness.
