What a priviledge to have a theater locally, showing all the lates hits so close to home. Why drive so far, to have something so near. This is awesome. And the price is right along with the treats.
Thanks goodness, you are so close.

Why drive to one of the big multi-plexes for an evening out? The Des Moines Cimema shows first-run movies for less money with a variety of great restaurants all around. Friendly and quaint.

Des Moines Cinema shows first run movies at discount prices. It has been "restored to its 1940's glory" and consequently has a unique atmosphere. The staff is friendly and have been know to start the show a few minutes late to accomodate people in the popcorn line. The back two rows of the theater have thicker padding and rock back for more comfortable seating. All in all, a fun place to watch a movie.

I've been many times. Great place to see a semi-first ran movie. Popcorn is always fresh.. family ran. The only drawback is running upstairs to use the bathroom. Other than that its great!

Des Moines Cinema is a local movie theater built way back when. It's old and small without all the amenities of todays mega-plexes, but it's a fun way to see a movie. They offer first-run features, usually a little later than the big movie houses, but at half the price. No long lines, all seats can see the screen. One of the workers steps up on stage before the movie to greet the audicence. If the pop corn is not ready before the picture starts, they will bring it to your seat. It's a fun expereince.

The history of the Des Moines Theater, i.e. Des Moines Cinema, is unique in itself. From neighborhood theater to adults only theatre back to neighborhood theater, it now appears to be approaching the genre of art theater. Hopefully it will continue in attracting the audience, which will grow as long as it shows movies of the caliber of "Frida." The city council should assist in revovation and advertising, if possible, to breath life in this stagnated community. M. Maurin
