It is what is on the inside that matters, that is certainly what we try to instill in children, and the same is true of Mini School.

The converted duplex in a residential neighborhood doesn't scream of high-class. The inside has narrow hallways and looks like a converted house, which it is. But the generosity and quality of the teachers and student learning is wonderful. I was greatly impressed to see that activities were rotated every day (I had two children there in different class rooms). Consistent learning, homework, guidance, and progress was apparent through out the year. My son learned to start his name, identify letters, numbers, and increased his interest in reading.

Teachers called my daughter's behavior to my attention in a gentle way when she started becoming too assertive with her ideas of how the preschool time should be spent. I took it as a reflection on her comfort level at the school. The school is well organized, clean, and their pick-up/drop-off system is courteous to the neighborhood. I was skeptical about it at first, but after several days of walking-in rather than the drop-ff at the door method, it was obvious that it is a quick and easy transition for the children (no refusing to hang up coats or clinging to parents). It is an effecient system and makes the turn-time easy for the teachers to start school.

Above all, when there was some hard times in our family and we offered to remove our children, the school let them stay in as there were just a few more weeks of school left. They didn't have to do this, and most preschools would have said their regrets and let us leave. We didn't ask for help or a hand out, but the school director clearly understands what is best for children, and kept that in mind. The generosity and understanding was more than just letting us be late on payments (we were never told we were obligated to pay back-tuition), but a reflection on the type of people that work with children every day and know the value of it.

My son began attending Mini School last October 2010. We LOVE it! We could not ask for better teachers for our son! They pay attention to our son's needs and help him with the area's that he needs to work on. He gets the socialization that he needs and learns so much! When we first decided to put him in preschool we were worried because he was so attached to me since I am a stay at home mom, however could we not have been happier with how well he transitioned. They truly helped him ( and my husband and I) to feel comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend Mini School. Actually, I already have... One cousin and Two of my son's friends (so far) will be attending with him next Fall 2011. Thank you so much for everything that you do to help our children grow and learn! Once my youngest son is old enough he will be following in his brother's footsteps to Mini School!
Thanks for reading about our wonderful experience with Mini School!
Sincerely, Connor's Mom!

My 4 year old started out there Septemeber of this year he didn't know how to spell his name or any of his Abc's, I was a concerned parent due to the fact that my child will be entering kindergarten the following year we looked around for preschools this one is close to home and cost effective. Within the first month of school my son was writing his name, he was showing interest in singing his abc's!! He would never sing them with me before he would always plug his ears and say no mom. He enjoys counting things now and showing off the things he does in class! they have lil parties for the kids for holidays the kids enjoy this and get lil goodies bags everyone volunteers to bring an dish it is really nice. I have always been welcomed into the class room with open arms and there have never been any hush hush behind the scenes the teachers and head coordinator are open and honest with the parents which I love!!! As for the teachers they are awesome they have kids of their own and can relate to the needs of your kids! The mini-school has meet and exceeded my expectations this school year my husband and I have had to cut our budget this school year and we could have cut mini-school but we choose to keep that as a needed expense do to the progress we have seen our child make academically and socially!! Thank you for reading my review hope it helped in choosing the best place possible for your lil one :)

This is Extreme makeover Preschool edition. If you are drawn to the allure of a delapidated manufactured home in need of an overhaul and you actually make it past the front door, heed my warning. The combined educational backgrounds of their "teachers" may make them perfect candidates for the TSA, but it takes a lot of training to be involved in the nurturing and development of young children. Giving birth is NOT a natural evolution into the teaching profession. An afternoon sucking face with a rubber dummy and getting CPR certified and attending evening classes does not prepare someone to interact with young minds. The price is tempting, but let me assure you that a few trips to the Dollar Tree will garner some phonics books and will have more of an academic impact on your child. If you are tempted by the low cost and being able to meet your friend girls at Starbucks for a few hours, don't buy the Venti and save your money for the long term therapy your child will need from the PTSD. The teachers are crass, annoyed and make snide comments to the children and parents during their wonderful meetings where your children sing songs and the "teachers" get to remind you that "Johnny picks his nose and eats his boogers, but it won't affect him going to Harvard (insert saracasm here). I have teenage babysitters that are more adept at providing quality childcare at a low price and have more skills in their arsenals of child development and behavior modification. I am surprised they haven't instituted the daily dunce cap activity and the theme of the montcould be Romper room in the trailor park. Don't hesitate to consult with the hoarders that live next door. The neighbors have many tales to tell about what goes on behind the barbed wire fencing. There are many affordable alternatives in Clark County, that would result in Johnny learning the proper classroom ettiquette and his ABC's. Just say no to The Mini School. Sadly, there was a time when this school offered a quality program to the community, but those days are long gone.

Business Response:

We are shocked to read such a review about our school. Whoever "Harvard Mom" is has never contacted us regarding her frustrations or concerns. With the internet today, it is impossible to control slanderous postings, but this one is so inaccurate I felt a response was needed. Our building is clean, spacious and well equipped. Our teachers do not deserve to be insulted like this, they are here day in and day out and give so much of their time, talents and personal money to help make a difference in the lives of the children they teach. They work well together and enjoy what they do. It's unfair that something like this can be written and the author not be identified. Having said this, we continually invest money back into the school for maintenance and upgrades. We are especially proud of our new outdoor Rainbow playstructure. The overwhelming majority of our families are very happy with our school and provide regular referrals. We would have not been in business for over forty years if we weren't meeting the needs of our families. Sincerely, Eileen
.

My son went to Mini School during the 2008-2009 school year. He turned five during the school year and adjusted well from the very beginning. Like all businesses, I believe there are ups and downs at Mini School, however, our positive experiences far out-weigh the negative ones.

Isaiah, is not only small for his size, he's a high-energy child that requires a bit of attention. He needed help with his fine motor skills and didn't do many things the way the other children did. I found that his teachers, and even the director of the school, took time to make Isaiah's transition easier and his learning environmemt more effective. They even bought special scissors to assist Isaiah with hand strengthening.

I enjoyed the parent/teacher envolvment at Mini School a lot. It will be hard to adjust to a kindergarten that isn't really focused on that sort of energy. I spoke with both of my son's teachers on a daily basis. I found that their energy for both their students and the parents made the days toward the end of the school year both nostalgic and comforting.

The school, as a whole, isn't much to look at, but the owners have put money into it this summer and renovations are under way. New play ground equipment was installed during the school year and the children were able to enjoy it before going on to Kindergarten.

Isaiah is deeply attached to his preschool teachers, the staff, and the building itself. I was a bit concerned with the turnover rate of the teachers, however it stands to show that the owners of Mini School are concentrated on finding the "right fit" for the students. Afterall, the students are what they are in business for.

I'd highly recommend the school, not only for their bargain prices, but because they genuinely care about the families that attend there. They are well-equipped and have been in business for themselves for quite sometime. As a business woman, I feel that they stand by certain morals and beliefs--something that is often missing in today's society--and that, above all, should be what we sow into our children.

Our fourth child will be starting his second year at Mini School and we have only good things to say! All of our kids have loved it there, and Mini School has been so helpful in preparing them for kindergarten. The teachers are wonderful and loving, and at the end of each month they have a 'sing' where all of the parents are encouraged to come hear the songs and fingerplays the kids have learned throughout that month. The drive-up is a wonderful feature, although you are always welcome to park and walk in to pick up your child. One of my favorite things about the school is that each month has a different theme, such as Disney or transportation, and many of the projects and songs are planned around that month's theme. Mini school is well organized, and all of the kids seem to be having fun learning. We have had such a great experience, and highly recommend mini school to anyone! An added bonus-tuition is very affordable, too!

This is a school that offers very good, old fashion type schooling. My child has learned a great deal and the teachers are very attentive to her. The school has been there for a long time and I am very impressed with the teachers there. I also love the drive up system they have in operation. The teachers are older which I love. This is just a great all around school.

My daughter currently attends Mini School. While I do not care for the current director (she is leaving by the way) and we had a teacher that wasn't that great in the beginning, I couldn't be happier with my daughters current teachers Ms. Provine and Ms. Yochim. They are fantastic. My daughter loves going to class every day and these two ladies really do seem to enjoy the kids and enjoy their jobs. They always have time to tell me what my daughter has been up to that day and have helped us greatly improve some of my daughters less than desirable behaviors and her desire to be independent.
I understand that the facilities aren't first class but my daughter loves it there. I am sure you could find a fancier school with more modern facilities but I don't think that you could find two teachers who care as much for their students as Ms. Provine and Ms. Yochim.

This place is a train wreck. Don't expect anything positive and you won't be disappointed. The "teachers" are uninspired, jaded, grumpy and just plain tired. Mindlessly snapping at the kids in front of parents (!). Made me wonder what they are like when we aren't around.
My child is an excellent student and, according to her Kindergarten teacher "a joy to have in class", so it wasn't my kid.
The drive-up feature is cool (albeit HORRIBLE for the environment), and the price is great, but that's it. This school is as bad as it looks, so trust your first impression.

My son has been at Mini School for 2 years and is going off to kindergarten next year, our experience has been nothing but wonderful for his time there. The staff is always very attentive to him and has really met our expectations. Would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a locally owned preschool.

When I read the other reviews for this school I thought awesome this will be the perfect place for my child. Unfortunately I was wrong. I should have known when I went in to register my child as the director was rude condescending and dismissive. She acted as if she didn't really have time for me and that I was a wasting her time. I decided to give it a go though and took my child to the first day. The teacher my child has is rude and doesn't seem like she tries very hard to make school a positive experience for my child. I do not feel welcome there and feel when dropping off and picking up my child that me and my family are nothing but a nuisance to the teacher. I am almost afraid of what happens during the day when I am not there. I am currently looking for a new school and WILL NOT recommend this school to anyone I know.

All 3 of my children have attended preschool at Mini School, my youngest will finish his last year there this year. The staff is wonderful and they always make you feel welcome if you stop in to see what your child is doing. My kids' always come home with lots of papers they have completed and many, many art projects. The price is unbeatable as well!

My daughter is 4 1/2 and in her 2nd year there. My 7 yr old son went there as well. It's a family business they've been operating for like 35 yrs so they really know what they're doing. My daughter has learned how to read and write all of her letters and numbers. She also writes her name, my name, mom, and gets regular "refresher" practice on things she had already learned- like shape identification and cutting, pasting, circling answers or crossing out the wrong answer, stuff like that which prepares them for elementary school work papers. They have lots and lots of toys and things that have becolme taboo at my house like toy sets and things with little pieces that we always can't find when we want them. They also just started offering "Parents Night Out"- every 2nd Saturday of the month you can drop your student child off from 6-10pm for only $10. Woohoo! Where has that been all of my life?

This school is awesome!! The monthly costs are super reasonable. This is not at all a daycare enviroment. They really get the kids prepared for school. I love the drive up system. They pick your kids up right out of your car and bring them to the classroom.

PROS: Monthly fee is great. School enviroment

This is a wonderful preschool for ages 3-5 before starting Kindergarten in the public school system. They will teach your child how to write their name, they sing songs & learn fingerplays, and they have arts/crafts type stuff. My child came home w/ something that he had completed while at school every day. T

The best part about it for me, and other moms who have smaller children, is they have a drive-up system (much like McDonalds) where you drive up & drop your child off at the door. The teacher comes out, gets your child out of your vehicle & takes them inside. Same for drop off. The teacher will bring your child out & buckle them back into their carseat. This is a godsend to moms who don't want to get out of the car because they have infants or smaller children in the vehicle.

My child loved every minute & the teachers are just superb. Highly recommended!
