I am confounded by the polar reviews of Business Careers on a number of sites. They all seem to be either one star or five. Personally, my experience was five stars all the way.

I applied for an administrative position through a Craigslist ad. I was contacted shortly by Dana Clemens, who asked me to come in and meet with her. She was polite, courteous, engaged, and straight-forward about the strengths and weaknesses of my resume and application. She helped me play up the good parts and strengthen the weaker ones. It had been quite a while since I'd interviewed for jobs and she really improved my interview skills. Over the course of the few of weeks it took to find a good match, Dana was able to set up several interviews for me. Before each one, she had me meet with her first, either in person or on the phone, to discuss the company, the position, even the individual who would be interviewing me. It was immensely helpful. If she didn't have anything for me for a few days, she'd still call and check in.

I should make it clear, I am not exactly the most marketable candidate. My work history has some gaps, mostly for long-term educational and volunteer experiences, but to an employer it probably doesn't look great. I'd explored a couple of divergent academic directions, too, which makes me look pretty scattered. Despite these drawbacks, Dana was able to frame me and my qualities in such a light that the company that hired me on, a thriving medical office on First Hill, was thrilled to have me. I've been there a month now and I absolutely love it. I'm getting a higher wage than I had initially listed on my Business Careers application, plus full benefits, and I love the environment and the people I work with. My previously-abandoned educational direction even contributed to my attractiveness as a candidate. More importantly, this job was NOT ADVERTISED ANYWHERE; Dana single-handedly got me the interview and prepared me for it. I couldn't be happier!

When I was invited for an interview at Business Careers, I was not aware how personalized a career placement center could be.
I met with Ms. Laurel Rick and she assured me that if I simply went into a job interview being myself, I would get a job. She reminded me of my qualities and skills and reminded me I was worthy of being hired into my dream job.

Ms. Rick had a clear and concise vision of my abilities and skills, relayed them to me, reviewed and called all of my references, called me right before my interview to let me know all of the wonderful things my former employers and co-workers said about me on the day of my interview. Because she took the time to do this, I went into my interview feeling confident that I would be hired if it was meant to be.

I was hired shortly after my interview and although I had the qualifications for the job, Ms. Rick had a great deal to do with how at ease I felt at the job interview.

The only way I could think of thanking Ms. Rick was to write this review. However she deserves much, much more. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I had read the bad reviews, but decided to try Business Careers Seattle out anyway. I met with Vera McGeer, who has since left the company, and she was awesome! I loved her! She tried really hard to get me interviews (I ended up getting only 1), and always got back to me as quickly as I emailed/phoned her. After she left the company, I was called by someone out of the Bellevue office, who informed me that she had left, and asked me to please resend my resume' - which I did, immediately - stating that she would contact me the following Monday (it was Friday). She did not. I finally emailed her a little over a week later, and she didn't respond. Instead, she sent my info on to another person in the Seattle office, who did (finally) call me. She (Barb Maxey) hardly listened to me as I was speaking to her, I felt as if she was trying to get off the phone with me. I applied to a couple of jobs listed under the Bellevue location, and was called by someone there - who raved about my qualifications, and asked if I could meet with her that very day. Which I did, only to be told that my job title for my current job was "misleading", and that I should consider changing it - and that she had nothing for me at this time. There was a thorough description beneath the job title. Did she read it? I don't think so. I asked if I should check in with her every so often, and she replied, basically, "Don't call me, I'll call you." I have a ton of clerical experience (over a 15-20 year period), and felt that I was treated with total disregard by everyone at these organizations, except Vera. You will stand a better chance of finding your own job than using these jerks.

Business Careers places very specific candidates into very specific jobs. People don't seem to realize that Business Careers is the middle man working directly with legitimate employers. They are hired by the employer to interview several applicants to find them the candidate they are looking for. For all the negative reviews of Business Careers, these must have been people who were not qualified for the position they wanted. I went to Business Careers and was sent on several interviews and got placed in a fabulous position that I have been at for 4 years! They do an amazing job to help you in every way that they can- IF you have the correct qualifications. If you do not, they will let you know. AND ITS FREE TO YOU! So what is all the anger about??

I read the many negative reviews, but decided to give these guys a shot for myself after seeing one of the positions they had listed on craigslist. I figured that the job seeking process is stressful and everyone reacts differently to stress, hence, maybe, some of the very emotional reviews.

Sure it's hard to park downtown, sure you have to fill out an application (no-one asks your license plate # as I read in one of the reviews), but, what's so surprising about any of that?

I met with Alle. She was clearly a 'people' person, smart and caring. She asked very good questions and I got the feeling they had a good selection of openings in the database. The next day she called to arrange an interview with a company for a position that would have been a very good move for my career.

I decided not to pursue the opportunity for personal reasons that Alle could not have predicted, but she did an outstanding job. Fast, efficient, enthusiastic - just the person you want to have in your corner! I don't know about the others in their office, but Alle could not have done her job better!

Only negative comment is that our meeting took place in a very busy distracting office shared by maybe 10 representatives, so, if you go, be prepared for that. However, they do have private rooms right next to the large office space, which I'm sure you could ask to move to, if you find all the chatter distracting.

I hope this helps! Best of luck in your search!

Business Careers is the worst agency I have ever dealt with. The agent/rep was demeaning and told me I have no marketable skills. Interesting since I am 50 and have worked since age 14 in everything from dishwasher to Executive Assistant to VP of a large company. I was shocked at their way of making people feel like a commodity. Signs in the office reading -" 6 placements = $$$" The entire experience was OFFENSIVE.

What a complete waste of time. I wonder if any of the jobs they advertise are really jobs at all. I inquired about a job listing and when I was contacted it was as if they had no idea who I was or even what their own listing contained. I was given information on a completely different position that paid far less than what was advertised with a different set of work hours and benefits. Seems to be a bait and switch operation. Very deceptive. Save yourself the time and aggravation and find a reputable, professional and proven employment placement agency...because this one clearly is not!!

DO NOT USE this agency. Business Careers is a sleazy outfit. I decided to give them another chance and replied to a posting they had advertised. I should have known better given my prior interaction with them. Same tactics. Don't waste your time. I agree that the positive reviews are most likely from employees. I have yet to come across an actual client who can give them a good review.

I applied for a position with Business careers a couple of times and I have to say, I was not impressed. I was called in for an interview with one of their reps, Brad Near in the Down town Seattle office. It took me almost an hour to get to the interview and I had to pay $12.00 for parking. The interview with this guy took 5mins and he acted like he was not interested in talking the minute he set eyes on me. The guy wouldn't even let me answer his questions and rushed me out of there as fast as he could.I did not feel like I was welcome here and I'm sure that my resume was never forwarded to the employer as the gentleman did even gather any information about me to share with the employer. I was there in late September, 2009, I have never received a phone from these people and the position I apllied for is still being posted by the Company ( Business Careers). Today is December 11, 2009. May be Business careers don't my kind?

I have only dealt with them as an employer and they were totally unimpressive. So much so in fact, they were eventually banned from our building.

Reading through these reviews, it is not surprising that they continue to be unsuccessful. If they are not intelligent enough to mask their fake complimentary reviews on themselves what else can you expect? Not much.

Who does this Seth guy think he's kidding anyway?

My experience with this company is a couple years old, but I figure it's still worth mentioning.

I searched employment agencies on the Better Business B. website and found Business Careers. I contacted the company and interviewed with Debbie. During our interview, the recruiter took a handful of calls (she never bothered to take off her headset - she would just put up her hand for me to pause while she answered calls from complaining candidates), badmouthed candidates to nearby co-workers after each call, and proceeded to ask me a number of inappropriate questions - like what are the positions and workplaces of my siblings, parents, and husband; where I live, if I own/rent, if my home was expensive, and so on. She attempted to dumb down my resume and my references.

Debbie then said she was placing people with my level of experience at jobs earning about $24K, significantly lower than jobs I've had and what my peers have had (with similar education and experience). She wanted me to come in the next day for a math test from a specific company for a position, but she didn't want to tell me any details about it, as they needed to see that I was a good fit before giving me any information about any position.

As the interview came to a close, I politely asked to see my application. I planned on keeping it and walking out, although she would not let me go near it. She said that she had years of experience placing people with great companies and that the paperwork is the company's property. I made up some excuse to avoid returning the next day for testing. After walking out of there, I feared she would do something with my personal information, including my social security number, and hopefully she hasn't.

The experience was an incredible waste of time. It was so ridiculous - I thought maybe I was on Candid Camera, or in the Twilight Zone, or dreaming. I guess not, though. Business Careers is just that bad. There are many other employment agencies in the area - it's not worth your time to deal with Business Careers.

I have been into Business Careers before and found it to be a fun and friendly atmosphere. I'm sick of reading these negative reviews from bitter people who couldn't be helped by Business Careers. I'm not sure if you have been paying attention to current events, but in case you didn't know, the economy is terrible! Business Careers can't help everyone and they receive so many resumes a day. In this economy, it is hard for anyone to get a job, let alone receive one from a recruiter because of the cost involved by the employer. Therefore, they are meeting with less people and are only able to help very few. They don't do this on purpose. Trust me, that's how they make their money! They only get paid if you get hired so of course they want to help as many people as they can, but right now it is very hard. Furthermore, they are a free service and are not OBLIGATED to help anyone! So, did you ever think that maybe you just weren't qualified?! People, get over yourselves!

A recruiter called me for an interview at their Seattle office on a Monday. On Tuesday I received a vague, impersonal cancellation email from businesscareers.com. Their recruiters reminded me of overenthusiastic, used car lot sales people trying too hard to sell something they can't guarantee. Like, lay off the crack before work or something and tone it down. I mean, why bother with the loud, "you're qualifications look great, I look forward to meeting you" b.s.? Apparently, when they're most overwhelmed they make the most phone calls to schedule interviews so they can promptly cancel them. I felt like they were a joke and I was highly annoyed by the inconvenience of having to deal with such an unprofessional organization.

P.S.
I'm convinced the good reviews have to have been written by employees of Business Careers.

I saw Business Careers' ads all the time and decided to finally go in and check them out. The person I met with explained their service very simply: they are on the phone with employers all day trying to get interviews set up for their candidates. And the recruiters at Business Careers only make money if they place candidates-so they want to place as many people as possible. They only deal with full-time jobs too which is good for me. After a few days the guy called me and got me an interview with a company I had submitted my info to but never heard back from. I didn't end up getting the job, but the recruiter ended up getting me two other interviews before I found a job thru my wife's company. So overall I was very satisfied.

I was looking for full-time employment a few months ago. I found an ad for a wonderful sounding position that was posted by Business Careers. I decide to apply for it and was called for an interview right away. I did a little research on their site and printed up a stack of other positions that sounded interesting to me. I waited about 20 minutes past my interview time, and went through a 10 minute meeting with a recruiter. He told me he would look into the positions I had printed up and was very excited to help me. A few days later he sent me an email stating that every single position was filled, but he had a few others in mind. He also asked me to make a list of all the job ads I responded to because it might help him pinpoint exactly what I was looking for. I followed his direction for two weeks without getting any response from him. I inquired as to if he was having any luck finding me a position and was ignored (and yes I made a number of calls and sent many emails). It made me think he was just calling the people I applied to and trying to get them to use their service; since they make money from the employers not the job seekers. I would suggest using another company or networking like crazy (which is how I got my new job!).

I went into Business Careers in Seattle about four weeks ago and met with Seth. When I got to the office, I was greeted by their robotic receptionist with a fake smile and asked to take a seat. Seth came out and I was escorted into a huge room full of young "car salesman" looking guys. Seth talked to me about my skills and what I am looking for in a job. He acted like he was very confident about my skills and said that it would be no problem finding me a position. He said "wow, I'm really excited about your resume, I'll start making calls on Monday and I'll call you soon". Two weeks later and... NOTHING. So, I called him and was directed to his voice mail. I left a polite message for him asking if he had any potential for me yet and how the search was going. That was two weeks ago and still... NOTHING. No call back, no email, no nothing. I was contacted by another rep for Business Careers yesterday who said she was VERY excited to meet with me about my resume. I was considering going in but after thinking about it for an hour, I decided to save my money for parking and save myself some time and stress and just job hunt on my own. Do not go here - they call everyone they receive a resume from. They are nothing but sleazy SALES people and they will lie to you to make you think you will get a great position and then never call you again. I'm not saying they don't work out for some people but the odds are, you will just get pushed to the bottom of the stack of their thousands of resumes.

This is one of the worst temp agencies I've ever dealt with. I had a conversation with one of the ladies in the Seattle office. Somehow, I felt very offended by the kind of questions she asked me and her 'don't give a damn about you tone' of attitude. They are very unprofessional and rude in general. They advertise tons of non-existing jobs for marketing purpose, don't get sucked into it. You are only wasting your time.

I had a great experience with Business Careers! I was contacted by Seth in the Seattle office annd he asked me to come in and interview with him for some sales opportunities he was working with. I came in and met with him, he was very pleasant and enthusiastic. He had two interviews for me the next day and a week later I had a new, full-time job with an excellent company. Very quick, easy and enjoyable process. I will refer my friends to Seth anytime.

Rude, tardy, and unprofessional. I showed up and was told that I couldn't speak to anyone without filling an application (this was after I had an interview set up with a recruiter). I informed them that due to identity issues lately I was apprehensive to just give out my information and just wanted to know their practices. Sue was my "recruiter," she seemed very annoyed that I was asking questions and shoved the app in my face. The fact that they ask if you have a car, the year type and mode, and the license plate is RIDICULOUS. This is just on the application. I went with my gut instinct, and left. Now that I got home to read the reviews. Thank goodness!

Two recruiters called me within an hour of each other, and neither knew I was on the others call list. At my first interveiw, my recruiter was forty-five minutes late getting around to me, and offered no apology.
After a couple of tests and a resume review, I was told I was an excellent candidate for several of their openings. The very next day, I was called about an interview and asked to go in an hour prior to that so they could help me prepare.
After driving forty-five minutes to Seattle and being kept waiting ten minutes past my appointed prep time, recruiter Sue finally came out and announced she had "been trying to get hold of me all morning". The job was filled "on the spot". She offered to call another job posting to see if she could get me in, and ten minutes later, came back out to tell me that this client, still active in their database, wasn't hiring at all. I was then informed she had nothing else for me.
Perhaps I'm being picky, but since when does one or two jobs equal "several good opportunities"? When I arrived home, I found the message in my voicemail she'd left...time-stamped for ten minutes before my preparation appointment!
Save your time and resources and seek job placement with a competent, professional company.

I applied for a job through Business Careers online and was contacted the next day for an initial interview to determine what type of job would best fit me. Even without any real job experience I was assured that they could do something for me, given my college degree. I even stressed that I would be willing to start out at a relatively low position, given my inexperience. I met the next day with a recruiter, had a 20 min. interview, after which he assured me he would get right on trying to find a job for me. Three days later, I was contacted by another, different recruiter from Business Careers, who wanted to arrange an initial interview with me. Hold on--hadn't I already done that? Well, it turns out the first recruiter didn't do job placements in the type of work I was looking for, so he simply passed my resume on to someone who did...but didn't tell me that. So, again I went, to downtown Seattle to do the initial interview crap once again. There I'm told by this recruiter that she probably can't do anything for me, but she would see what she could do. OK? What exactly does that mean? After spending two hours in their office and incurring a $35 parking ticket, I went home to wait for a phone call. She called me a few days later with what sounded like an excellent job opportunity, but she was unsure of when the interview would take place. She encouraged me to keep in touch and would nail something down in a few days. I called a few days later, but the interview was now not going to happen, the reason for which I'm still not sure of. She did have another job interview lined up, but that was put on hold for another unknown reason. She said it would be about a week, and that she would contact me when she had a firm date/time. That was two months ago, and I have not heard from her since. An utter and complete waste of my time.

I had the great opportunity to work with Kris at Business Careers in Seattle and couldn't have made a better decision. With his guidance, coaching and encouragement I was able to land a position that I never thought would be possible. Without this company and their hard work and dedication, I would still be spending hours each day job searching. He worked hard for me and had faith in me and if you have the opportunity to partner with him in your career search, you will be making the right decision!

I interviewed with Business Careers recently and had a great experience. They matched a position with my career objectives. I have already been promoted in the company and love my job! I would definitely recommend coming to Business Careers if you are looking for a successful future.

I was looking for an legal assistant job downtown and was having trouble getting an interview because I had little experience. Business Careers tried to send me on a couple of interviews that weren't quite what I wanted but I stuck to my guns and they sent me to a lawfirm where I was hired in exactly the position I desired above the pay scale I had expected. I have been working there for the past two years and just recommended Business Careers to a friend.
As for parking in Seattle...It's not business careers fault it is $$, get over it!

As others have written, zero stars is the appropriate score. I noticed an ad one day for a job in the newspaper that looked worth applying for. It happened to be through Business Careers. I have had a few years experience as a professional, as well as a college degree. Thinking it would not do me any harm; I submitted my application. They called me to come in for an interview, and where I met a woman who was obviously working on commission. I left the interview thinking I would not be wasting my time there again. A few weeks later the woman from Business Careers called me again, went on and on about this job, and told me everything I wanted to hear, in terms of the job description. Well, I got suckered in to an interview in their downtown office, paid $25 for parking, for a watse of TIME. When I turned down another interview, I was hung up on. Business careers was by far, the most unprofessional, and ridiculously tacky establishment have ever spoken with. Her questions and statements made no sense, she was unbelievable rude, and it was obvious Business Careers was the only place stupid enough to hire people who can't get anything better.

So, long story short, this place is a sleazy place full of pathetic people. It was completely misleading and a pain in the ass. Business careers reminded me of a used car sales lot. They must bank on the expression: ??there??s a sucker born every minute?.

If you are looking for any kind of job other than temporary office work then these guys AREN'T for you.

Impressive views from their Seattle office, but little else.

A complete waste of time if you are looking for professional work.

I've worked with many temporary agencies.

I can only say, when a temp agency told me I would receive a telephone interview from a company I actually received a telephone call and was interviewed!

Business Careers told me I would receive a phone call and be interviewed (on a specific date at a specific time) but it never happened.

You can expect your recruiter to find you a few interviews, but the positions usually won't be exactly what you're looking for. The recruiters get paid for finding you a job, so there's always the chance that they put their interests before yours and try to stick you in jobs that you don't want. I was offered a job from an interview they got me, but it wasn't what I was looking for and I felt like the recruiter resented me because I didn't accept the job.

Business Careers of Seattle was a dissapointment. I made an appointment and made my way to their office where I had to pay almost $10 to park my car. After that I was sent to fill out endless forms and be called in for a quick chat about my experience. I felt like a number. Not only that, the person who was trying to help me find a job quit the next day and after that it seemed like nobody cared about my qualifcations or experience. I would NOT go back to this office ever again.

PROS: NONE
CONS: Bad service all around.

Unlike most of the agencies around, the recruiters at Business Career work hard to secure individuals full-time, permanent jobs that fit both their skills and preferences. Only two weeks after a thourough interview with one of their was recruiters, I was prepped and sent on 3 interviews, one of which landed me in my current position at a lawfirm downtown. Oh, and its free for us job seekers!

PROS: Friendly staff, quick results

Business Careers is a great resource to help you in your career planning and your job hunt. I worked with Daniel Barlean a while back and he was very encouraging, helpful, and effective. Within two days, he had me set up on an interview. By the end of the week, I had up to three interviews scheduled. All of the jobs were great positions in successful and building companies. They take the time to get to know your skills and goals at Business Careers which in turn help them to find the perfect job fit for you.

PROS: Simple interview process, downtown location, and friendly staff
CONS: Depending on when you're searching for a job, there can be limited offerings. If you don't like what they have to offer, wait a while and check back when they have new jobs available.
