You would think that in a fishing town they would have more than one place for you to buy a fishing/clamming/hunting license. But in Westport you have to go to the Hungry Whale gas station. You use to be able to buy licenses at the charter offices but now I think they only sell the day ones. The only WDFW license computer is at the Whale. If you are coming to the south beaches to clam dig you have to get your license early. The lines are terrible for clam digs.
The Hungry Whale is your regular litttle gas station convienence store. They sell some fishing stuff and bait, have a small hot case and a cold case with lunch items, soda machines and coffee machines, magazines and newpapers, some groceries, beer and the like. They also fill propane tanks. It can get a little busy there. It is the closest place to get gas near the marina and is located at the cross streets going to the Shipyard, Coast Guard Station and public boat launch and parking.
Not a bad place to stop on your way out of town. Gas prices are usually better than at the "Y" but like the rest of Westport still higher than places away from the beaches.
For some reason they have a big turnover in employees. They always have a help wanted ad in the paper. I never see the same face there very long. ??

PROS: Sells bait and tackle. Close to marina.
CONS: Only place to get a fishing license-long wait to get one at times.
