May 7, 2012 - I went to the Tattoo Machine (2 years ago) off of a recommendation from a friend. The shop suggested Brian as the artist (and owner) for my particular tattoo, a Celtic Knot work armband around my left arm with a design (badge) of my son's initials on the outside facing part of my arm. I met with Brian and gave him the artwork that I already had worked up with another friend, so I already knew going into this that this is what I wanted. Brian re-drew the artwork and it looked great, just what I had envisioned. What was actually tattooed on my arm was not the same thing.

As mentioned, the tattoo was an armband, and on the outside of my arm and the artwork, there was a design that incorporated my son's initials. That facing design and the first half of the armband looks great. So, from the facing design, around the front of my arm, to right under the armpit, is all great. The Celtic knot work is just supposed to be mirrored on the other side of my arm from under the armpit, around the back, and then link right back to the facing design in the front. That's not what happened. The knot work design is about 2 inches thick in the front, and 3 inches in the back. He just kept making it wider and wider as he went around. And the design was not mirrored, and was actually backwards from what went on the front. I couldn't see it while he was doing it as it was on the backside of my arm, and then it was wrapped up, so I didn't notice it until I started applying the lotion to it for healing.

I was upset and shot Brian an email one night telling him I was upset and not happy with my new tat. He got right back to me and said he takes this kind of thing very seriously. He asked me to come in so he could take a look, and within a couple days I was back in the shop. He looked at it and agreed that he made a mistake. He said he had a friend that did Laser Removal and said he would pay to have the "error" part of my tat removed and then he would re-do that area. Great, let's do it.

Months went by, I reached out again, he said he forgot. He asked me to come in again, so I went in for some pics so that he could show his removal person. More time goes by, I reach out again, he says he'd been busy but he will make this a priority. From the time I got my tat, there were probably 3-4 times in a 6 month period where I keep trying to reach out to him and I was told he was working on it or something. I then let him be the one to reach out to me next. It has now been 1.5 years since the last time I contacted him, and just tried to reach out to him again this last weekend, and he has not even acknowledged me. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt because I know how busy people can be, but now this is flat out lying and he is just avoiding me. It's now been 2 years since my tat was done (incorrectly) and Brian promised to "fix" this and make it right, but yet I have heard nothing. I'm pretty sure he never intended to help me in the first place and was just trying to wear me down.

I cannot even begin to describe how angry I am at the dishonesty and terrible artwork this shop, specifically Brian, has bestowed upon me. Now I have a half-good/half-bad tattoo that I will have to pay someone else to remove the bad part, and then go to another artist to re-do the artwork. I'm almost OK with it (if it wasn't so expensive to remove tats), as at this point, I'm pretty sure that I don't even want Brian to re-do it anyway in case he messes things up again. Beware, Brian may have done some good work in the past, but I guarantee that he can mess up pretty good too. Do you really want to gamble that with something permanent?

UPDATE 8/15/12: Within a week or so from the original post above, I finally got a hold of Brian. He claimed that it just slipped his mind AGAIN. I gave him one more chance. He claimed that he really does want to make it right. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. After 2-3 more times of me trying to get a hold of him over a month??s time, he failed to make good on this original offer. It??s now been 3 more months, and nothing. I originally was not going to post this since I had gotten a hold of Brian again, but now that he is ignoring his customer again, this review is being posted. I believe I have been incredibly patient, and I can??t stand it anymore, people need to know what they are getting into if they go here. My suggestion, don??t even step in the door

I went to Tattoo Machine last week and was sorely disappointed. When I pulled up to the shop, another car was parked next to mine with a number of confederate flag stickers. This made me apprehensive but, I figured maybe the person who owned this car wasn??t in that shop. Also, I have talked to people with confederate flags on their cars, who say its more about their working class Southern pride then any racism towards people of color. So I headed in, got a price quote from the piercer and then asked to use the bathroom. On my way to the bathroom, I looked over to a tattoo station where a print out of a confederate flag was clipped to their tattoo area and a man was laying there getting the flag as a tattoo.

I guess the world was looking out for me because all I had was a debit card and all they take is cash. So I left to get cash with my partner. As we walked to the ATM, I talked about feeling bad for not wanting to get pierced there anymore. I didn??t want to financially support a place that would tattoo people with, the confederate flag. A symbol that, even if the person who displays it doesn??t mean it to, causes me as a black person to fear that the owner wants to cause me physical harm.

As such, I went back in said I wasn??t interested in getting pierced their anymore and left. While leaving, I saw another sticker, on the same car that I had missed. It said, ??Uncle Sam Wants You to Speak English.? I guess the drivers intentions through displaying that many confederate flags, was to send a racist message.

Since leaving I have looked at the resources for Tattoo Machine online. It looks like they have enough of a positive following, which I am assuming helps with their revenue, to not have to support racist violence through their tattoos.

I went to Mike at The Tattoo Machine for a "remodel" on my lighthouse. He was encouraging and set an appointment. I went back the next night for the work to be done. He had me worried for a bit, he kept looking at the "work" already done and looking quite concerned. I was beginning to think he was going to send me home. Then he set to work, and just over 1 1/2 hours later I had "art work" on my leg. I am soo pleased with his work and you would not believe the comments I have received!! It looks like a picture! The only thing I would do different, go there FIRST! thanks Mike

I got both of my tattoos at Tattoo Machine. The place is nice and clean, not only in the waiting room, but especially in the tattooing room. It is very comforting to watch them take out sterile tools to do your tattoo. They were very nice and not at all intimidating. The staff makes you feel very comfortable, especially if it's your first tattoo. My roommate got both of his niples pierced there and it was the same thing; very clean and nice artist. There is a lot of selection on the walls, but they will obviously design something for you too.

My friend swears by this place. The people who work there are really great and conforting when you go in. They explain everything they are doing as it happens. The place is really clean which is important considering what they do. They do great work there. when I went there with her , the place gave her a peace of mind knowing it was there. It is a great place to go.
