We just returned from dining at Jak's in Issaquah,
celebrating my husband's job promotion.
We have chosen Jak's many times in the past for a steak dinner, and in fact had happily switched from the Metropolitan in Seattle.
The Bullitt cocktail for $10 was served cold and was an excellent choice if you enjoy burbon, which I do.
We ordered the 40oz. Porterhouse to share and upgraded to a Caesar salad.
The salad was colorless and tasteless. Thank goodness we asked for ground pepper.
The garlic mashed potatoes were at an acceptable temperature but certainly lacked garlic.
Luckily, the beans were of good color, taste and texture.
The Porterhouse should be renamed Poorterhouse. The tenderloin side was anything but tender, so nothing compensated for it's lack in taste. The new yourk side did have some flavor but was full of fat and was difficult to chew. Unless you have a medical necessity to exercise the jaw, there is nothing to justify this steak's toughness.
The chef should be commended for cooking the meat to a perfect medium rare.
Also, our waitress deserves a nod for prompt and efficient service. (reflected in the tip)
The glass of Cabernet at $8.50 was perfectly smooth and helped compensate somewhat for the poor quality of the meal.
However, it did not compensate enough for us to stick around and experience dessert, so no comment there.
The assignment of one star is only for the service, the correct doneness of the steak and the fact that our Golden Retriever will enjoy a steak bone at the cost of over $100.00.

My wife and I celebrated our 33rd Wedding anniversary tonight at Jak's. What a great choice. We had to wait 45 minutes for a table but there are shops around the restaurant that we spent time browsing through. They called my cell when the table was ready. Waitress was very friendly, attentive, and professional. We had the crab cakes for appetizer. WOW Delicious!! Salad was crisp and cool, just enough dressing. My wife had a Cajun style prawn dish and I had Lobster mac and cheese. Too good!!We will be back before our 34th for sure.

I am going to write on two experiences about Jak's one for my parents who don't do online reviews and one for my husband and I.

My parents just this past Sunday thought they would go to Jak's for brunch. They knew it was Mother's Day and were prepared to wait. They opened up at nine and my parents were there at 9:09 AM. My father was told it was going to be 45 minutes for a table, mind you NO ONE was in the restaurant. Figuring a few people must have gotten their names in ahead, he let it go. More people come in. They end up being seated AHEAD of my parents. This happens for 30 minutes until my father goes and asks what the deal is. and received an "I don't care" response. I guess my parents didn't fit the proper "Issaquah profile." They will never return.

Now my husband and I went on a Saturday night. It was a long overdue date night without children. I have no problem waiting for a table for 45 minutes if the food is good, the problem is, IT WASN'T. The server we had was beyond poor, did not come back to check on us, had to flag her down to get anything....Did not offer recommendations. Although she was quite chatty with other tables. We tip very well if we get good service and it was her loss as we left nothing....My husband ordered steak and the potato pancakes as we heard word of mouth that they were good. I ordered pork tenderloin and the potato pancakes. Both of us thought the potato pancakes were extremely greasy. I was only able to eat a couple bites. My pork tenderloin was dry as a bone and not much flavor. The vegetables had obviously sat around as they were cold. My husband's steak was not cooked correctly but he ate it anyway just so we could get out of there. The meat was of poor quality, there was tons of gristle.

I will never go back again...

A co-worker recommended this place. The food was great the first time and we recently went back again. Fun, loud, noisy, and packed with people on a Wednesday night. But why no reservations?
Potato pancakes are really good. So is the mixed grill and of course, all of the steaks. The meals are pretty sizable. Service was good. Desserts need some imagination. The bar looked like it had some great drinks brewing! And, like I said, for a suburban restaurant on a weekday, it was packed with people.

We went to Jak's in Issaquah on a Saturday night (yes, I know that sounds crazy, but we new we'd have a wait so it was fine) and had a great experience. We got to the restaurant at 6pm and had an hour wait for dinner, but were able to get two seats at the bar immediately. We had our favorite steaks (Filet - medium rare for me; medium for my wife) and they rocked. I like to get the UFO, where you get a potatoe pancake topped with garlic mashed potatotes. I keep thinking I'm going to get just the potato pancakes, but I always end up with the UFO. I've never had a bad meal here, which is the reason it's my favorite place. They probably don't want to advertise this, but I get takeout from them when I know the wait is too long for us to wait.

Most of the staff seems to have been there for a long time, as we've lived over here for almost five years now and see familiar faces there from our first visit. Really enjoyed our service too.

Cheers and enjoy! Glenn

Pros: Best Steaks in Seattle or Bellevue; Great Value

Cons: no reservations

We moved close to Jak's and had some good experiences here with friendliness, etc. This may be unusual...but last time we tried they wouldn't seat us because we wanted a few appetizers and drinks - we would have had the table for 45 minutes, just a quick stop. They wouldn't seat us and we had our daughter with us so the bar is not an option. Stunned. We walked up the road to another local and they were friendly - packed, knew we would just be getting appetizers and a cocktail. They bent over backwards. We won't be going back to Jak's ever again.

Jak's is a great place to go for a good steak. The food is not cheap, but worth the price. Great staff...very friendly. Be prepared to wait though...very popular place and the wait can be very long sometimes! By the time you get your desert you will forget about the wait!

First, it took me over 4 years to return. Then I thought, why was I so pasionate about not ever dining here again? Not only does this place reek of over the top egos, toss in some rudness topped with extremely slow service and you start to recall. Over an hour for a meal, 20 mins for bread, on a Thursday with ample open seating. I was treated inappropriatly and offended. This 'customer service' trait seems to prevail here at "JaK's Grill". How I, and, my out of town guests were treated is nothing to be proud of. The BOLD taste of distain is all I left with ...that and the power of the internet! Word of mouth. I doubt I will have this over-rated establishment quaking in their boots, but "if I tell 2 friends..." bad press is not good press. Dining here -take your chances ...NEVER going back!

Wow, I was very disappointed with the whole experience.

We called to make a reservation but were told they did not take reservations. After showing up we had to wait about an hour to be seated (I've actually since been told this is quick!).

We all ordered a steak meal which comes with a salad and bread. The salad was basically iceberg lettuce with a little oil and vinegar dripped on it, not really what I'd expect from this kind of restaurant.

The service was poor, we had to ask for refills several times.

We got our steaks which came with two small veggies and a tablespoon of potatoes. That's OK I though the steak looks big. I got a third into eating my steak when I realized that the other two thirds was marbled grizzle, I could not eat it. Maybe my dog would have liked it though.

I really felt ripped off and to top it off I had to stop and get fast food on the way home.

If you're into flushing money down the toilet, Jak's is the place to go!

They are now open for lunch. I love to take out-of-town guests there. The steaks and potato pancakes are delicious.

Go before 5 p.m. if you don't want to wait and then you can have a relaxing dinner.

The desserts are too sweet, lack variety, and remind me of corporate restaurant desserts. They may be made there, but they don't taste as if they are. I recently had the creme brulee. It's big, but it lacks true vanilla flavor, sophistication, and the fine, rich, creamy quality of the real article.

We are great fans of fine meat so we went to Jaks on the basis of word of mouth. The meat here is not of a quality I would say meets even choice grading, much less prime. The meat was firstly overcooked but the quality was substandard so we brought this to the waitress' attention. Next thing we know we have the manager at our table asnd he makes the statement, "I didn't know you people knew about prime beef!" We are hispanic and proud. I cannot fathom why we were sunbected to this outrage. We demand you boycott this establishment.

The wait hee was almost two hours. We orederd our meal only to find the meat substandard. I brought this to the attention of the staff and ended up getting harangued! I mean the manager insulted me as to my knowledge of meat and food prep! I am a customer, damn them! I will not be insulted in this way. I can not recommend this place in any way!

We went here for dinner. Everything was pretty slow - getting seated, menus, water, food order. Well we're eating our meal, finally, when the waiter is at our table pouring water refills. He suddenly turns, points his butt cheeks at us, and rips off a long, greasy fartt. He then turns back around and resumes pouring us water. We have never been subjected to such rude and crude behavior - we are speechless. I finally ask this kid what is his problem and he tells me that he ate in the kitchen before his shift and he's had bad flatulence all night. He then wanders away from our table without any word of apology. I cannot believe he did not pass gas in our face without intent as it was too contrived. Needless to say we will never eat at this place ever again!

Let's see...bad food but far worse service adds up to the worst place I have ever eaten. We are fond of upscale so we thought we would give this place a try. It took forever to get seated and then only after I asked for a third time. We were a bit miffed but after waiting 20 minutes we thought the rest would be easy. Were we wrong! We ordered appetizers and these took 25 minutes to get to our table. They must have been sitting in the kitchen for that entire time because they were all cold and soggy. Yuck. We told our waiter about this and he just walked away without any comment. Our entrees arrived after another 20 minutes and again these were lukewarm. Is there anything more disheartening than cold chicken and steak? That was enough for us and we started for the door only to have the staff confront us - actually blocking our path. This had to be the most bizarre experience we have ever had in a restaurant. I cannot recommend this place with any conscience.

One cannot imagine a more terrible experience. The food was exceptionally bad in quality, preparation, and presentation. We had steak and each was ill-prepared by the kitchen. No matter really as the meat quality was marginal with lots of gristle and tendons. The wine card was promising but they must be storing it in an oven as we ordered three bottles and each was off. We told our waiter about this and he told us that the wine was fine! The final indignity was the toilet - the bowl was clogged up by someone and the manager accused us of choking it up with fecal matter! That was really enough and we left in disgust.

My wife and I stopped last night for the first time. We arrived just after 5pm. We waited about half an hour for a table. The waitress was very friendly, giving us assistance on choosing a wine to go with with two of the best New York steaks that either of us have had for quite sometime. She gave us a complementary dessert to celebrate our first visit and anniversary. We were very impressed with the outstanding service and meal. We will recommend Jak's to all of our friends and family.

We waited two hours to have a good steak, what a dissapointment. The New York steak I paid 40:00 for was tough and just a bad cut of meat. I have had better meals at taco bell.

We wanted to give this place a try but were told there would be a two hour wait for a table. We put our name down and went into the bar. It was too small, crowdede and noisy for us to have a conversation so we decided to head down the street to the wine bar where we could unwind, have a drink and compare notes on the day. After an hour there we head back to Jaks and order another drink in the crowded noisy bar. After at least an hour I walk over to the hostess station and inquire about our table. The girl tells me that since I left she took our name off the list! I couldn't believe it! She tells me if I want a table there is at least another hour wait! I demand to speak with the manager and this heavy set lummock saunters over and tells me we can wait an hour for a table or leave but either way he did not care! We were outraged! This is a horrible restaurant with terrible service. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

We waited almost 2 hours for a table. After being seated, finally, we waited another 20 minutes before we were finally able to get our server to grace us with her presence. When she pitched up it was only to tell us that she was busy...then she walks off! After another 10 minutes she turns up to ask us rather gruffly what we want to order. No explanation of specials or recommendations. When we inquire about these she simply said "we're sold out" then stares at us. Well, we order a couple steaks and two glasses of wine. We wanted more wine but our waitress couldn't be bothered to inquire if we needed anything. The bill came to more than $100 for very medicore food and truly terrible service. We will never return.

I've been here a couple of times, hanging out with girlfriends and once for my birthday dinner. I like this place. It's got a kind of hip vibe, and good quality meals. It's not cheap, but I think you get a good quality meal for what you pay.

We've never had a bad meal at this popular restaurant. The spicy prawns are outstanding. Be sure to get there early on Friday and Saturday nights, as they get quite busy and the wait is long.

What is wronge with these people? Are they use to dining were their is never a wait? Ummm, not a good sign if a business in not BUSY! We love JAKS! We have been going there for years---so has most of Issaquah! Thats why there is such a long wait-Its the most popular restaurant in town! The steaks are AMAZING. They just had a "cowboy ribey" that my husband could not stop talking about (tryed to made it at home-we decied it just better to go to JAKS). The service has always been wonderful! The same servers have worked there forever-its impossible to get a job there (i've tryed) because no one leaves! We are "regular" customers, wouldnt waist our $$ if it wasnt the best from the food to the service. We absolutly love the new GM. She is doing a fab. job. I always reccomentd JAKS to everyone and love to be known as a "regular"!

he employees of this place are really terrible. The hostesses are stuck up idiots who could care less about you as a customer. The waitresses are more of the same - all you are is a prospective tip. The manager is one step removed from the trailer park. Anyhow, the last straw for us was watching the manager picking his nose while he's talking to one of the waitresses! Unbelieveable! We will NOT be going back to Jaks.

The Maitre'D is a slovenly, tasteless boor. He wears a cheap suit and jingles his change in his pocket. There must be a couple of faux gold chains beneath the J C Penny's polyester necktie he wears. My point? I went to this man to complain that after a two-hour wait for a table we found the service to be rude and the food lacking in quality. His reply? "Nobody else seems to have a problem!" I mean really! I thought this was a joke but the sad truth is that the front line management probably trained at a sleazy Poconos supper club because that is precisely how this man behaved! We will never return to Jak's Grill in Issaquah!

Since new ownership has come in over the last few years this place is seriously going downhill. What was once the premier steakhouse in Seattle is quickly becoming Denny's. They've lost their focus on good food and have started sullying the menu with sh!t like mac and cheese and *onion rings* and steaks with sauces. They're also now doing lunch and a Sunday brunch. Even the steaks have been "meh" the last several times eating there. It seems the new owners are only interested in milking as much short-term money from a once-great thing. JaK's was once my favorite restaurant (to which I've brought many business clients) - I'm sadly looking for another.

What a gem Jaks is. Really quality food, and great atmosphere. Unfortunately some people decided to bring their 1 year old tazmainian devel with them to dinner and it almost ruined our meal. We don't usually spend $30.00 per entree just to be exposed to someone else's wild children. Hint, leave the brats at home. The wait staff was on our side and after a few hints from us they apparently took care of the situation. They earned thier tip.

Great hosts and cocktail staff during the long wait for a table. Worst steak salad ever. Will impress any soccer mom.

We stopped by here on a saturday to see how long the wait was. Almost 2 hours was the reply. We put our names in and told the hostess we were going to check out the new wine bar down the street. She made a note of it and called us at the wine bar when a table was available. We had a really great meal and a totally fun evening out.

For alternatives to the regular steak & potatoes - check out the salad menu. You can add a 5 oz sirloin, grilled chicken or salmon to any salad for a few dollars more. A great value, too! I had the spinach salad with perfectly done sirloin for @ $20.00.

Great steaks at a great price. You won't find many steakhouses with theses prices. The wait can be a little long, but with great places around to catch a drink the time flies by. Highly recommended!

Food and wine is excellent. Usually 2 hrs wait on weekends and a little noisy but it's worth it. Very inexpensive for quality food.

Never had a bad steak here. Never once got right in. Always a wait, and they don't take reservations but we keep coming back anyway. Great food, fairly expensive but you ARE getting what you pay for, good wait staff. I like it :)

I cannot beleive ANYONE who says that this place is not worth the wait. Probably the only reason why you wouldn't like it is if you never read ANY reviews, or you dont pay attention you HAVE TO GET THERE EARLY. When I say early I mean as theya re opening. You will be seated immediately, get great service because no one else is in the place, except for the others who know to get there early. I have always had above excellent service from all of the waitresses at this location and at the Laurelhurst shop. You really need to decided whether or not you are going to pay $50 ( for 2 not icluding tip) for these absolutely phenomenal steaks here at Jaks or go to a crappy meal at the keg and spend the same amount. And don't even get me started on Daniels broiler. Talk about rude, unattentive servers. Jaks grill's steaks are 100 times better, service is exceptional, and HALF THE PRICE. If you complain about the wait, get there early. If you complain about the servers, theres something wrong with you! Working in the customer service industry there are those you will NEVER be happy unless you literally licking the mud off their shoes. So I wouldnt trust these people's reviews. This is the absolute best of the best in terms of quality food, great service, for a price you cannot refuse.

Hands down, the best filet I have ever had. Ever. I always order my steak well done, which is sometimes hard to get right; they are either overcooked and burned, or still pink inside. JaK's got it PERFECT with no pink center. Delicious! The wine list was great and the Citrus Cosmo was awesome. The service was great too... our server was very friendly and effecient. We got our food in a reasonable amount of time. The wait is long... but it is worth it! Highly Recommend!

Good steaks but not as good as those at the Met or Peter Lugar's. Of course, the bill comes to half of what you'd pay at those two places so it's a great value.

Service is solid and efficient but occasionally hurried.

Jak's grill is definately a well known place for residents of issaquah to goto. The price is more than an Outback steakhouse but less than a Ruth Chris'. I personally would have to say this steakhouse is equal to Ruth Chris. Although Ruth Chris is more elegant, Jak's is not a bad place either to go on a date. The staff is friendly and even months after my last visit, the waiter remember who I was. I would absolutely recommend Jak's grill to anyone who loves a tastey steak. Ask about the UFOs they have as your side item.

PROS: Friendly staff, great meal and atmosphere for the money.
CONS: Long waits during peak hours.

I've never had a bad meal here. The best steaks around and I'll measure Jak's against The Met, Ruth's, Flemings anytime!

The wait sets the mood, great drinks, crowd adds to the ambience. Small so get there early. Waits can be long.

This is still the best steak I have ever had. The place is very unassuming, but for reasonable (steakhouse) prices you can get a nice sized filet with a side of potatoes and a full sized salad. The wait can be long, and they don't take reservations. If you are going with a larger group (~6) then you should be prepared to wait at least an hour. There is a Starbucks nearby though which is open late, and serves as a good waiting place since the hostess at Jak's will take a cell phone # and call you when your table is ready.

make sure you get there early, or are prepared to make an evening out of it. They don't take reservations. Many many times I have waited 2 plus hours to be seated. Don't worry once you taste the steak, it is worth it!

Steaks are excellent and on par with the Met, Daniel's Broiler, etc., while pricing is closer to the Keg or Outback. Shredded cheddar and garlic mashed potatoes are awesome. Negative reviews regarding wait time are accurate - most evenings the wait is over an hour if you arrive after 6:30, and they don't take reservations. But that's what happens when a locally owned steak house gets this kind of reputation! Here's the secret: put your name on the list and then walk across the street to the library or down to the salmon hatchery during the summer. As for the cooking of the steak - I have consistently ordered "well done-no pink" and have been amazed at how juicy and tender it is with no pink. I'm convinced that the people who complained did not accurately describe how their steaks should be cooked.

Of all the steaks I've had anywhere (and that's a lot!) JaK's Grill rules the roost! There may be a wait to be seated, and should be expected on Friday and Saturday, but it is worth the wait. The bar is well stocked with great bartenders so relaxing before the meal is a pleasure. All of the menu items are well prepared and you get a "full meal" for the price. Try the Porterhouse! The best anywhere! This tops the Met, Ruth's, and all the others. May not be quite as fancy as som but isn't it the meat we're after??? Keep it up JaK's!!!

I worked in Issaquah for a couple years before I finally got around to trying this place. The exterior does not hint at the wonders inside. The best steak preparation anywhere (JaK's petite filet is my favorite)! The chilled salad is divine! Garlic mashed potatoes, oh heavens! A true culinary treasure in old downtown Issaquah.

My wife and I have dined at Jak's many times and not once have we had a negative experience. The food is always delicious and the service very friendly. We continue to take friends and family to this establishment for dinner because we know we will always have a great meal. Fri. and Sat. nights are very busy (2 hr wait in some cases), week nights are better.

I have been taking my family to Jaks Grill regularly for several years now and have found both food quality and service to be both excellent and consistent over that period. While I can't disupte the fact that I will likelyface a significant wait on Thursday and Friday night, I think this is simply a testament to the broad appeal of this restaurant to those who seek a great meal at a very resonable price. Keep it up!

I recently returned from another outing to JaK's and found the same great quality, value and service as always and am astonished to see recent reviews as overrated and snobs. The steaks are as good as ANY in town and the atmosphere is comfortably casual, which makes the overall experience much better than the overpriced stuffy alternatives in town. In particular reference to the ones who were displeased with how their dinner was prepared - if you want beef well done - go to Sizzler...

Plan on making a night of it, your experience will be wonderful. Regardless of when you arrive the wait is ALWAYS shorter than quoted. If you are eager to eat, seats at the NON SMOKING bar open up with patience. When you are there, you will be served... killer dry martini's and a great wine selection prime you for a great meal. The bartenders, (Mikell and/or Matthew) are experienced, efficient and very knowledgeable. Get to know them and you will be well looked after. Their world class cocktails are always at the ready. The perfect steak and complementary beverage will make your trip to 'Issaquah's little Miracle' worth time and money. The employee owned attitude brings warm and friendly service to every table every time. Look for the occasional local celebrity. As an Issaquah local, this is a twice a week stop for me... at the very least. Enjoy!
