I almost didn't tour this community based on the review I had seen from last year but I still did and I know this was the best thing I could have done.

As it turns out, I came in the midst of a change of directors. My mom had been living at a community in Bothell (Chateau) that could no longer take care of her, in fact they were about to ask my mom to move out (this was a community (non Aegis) with no memory care which now all the sudden they have?). The guy who used to run Aegis Lodge (which I guess from the past review) ended up going to Chateau and Aegis ended up getting a new team. I moved my mom in to Aegis last April.

As I said, I didn't get to experience the past team but this one has been nothing but exceptional to my mom. The nurses email me or call me at least twice a day to update me on my mom's status, making me feel as if I am the only family member they care about and I know many families feel well taken care of like I do.

The activities director changed recently and my mom is a lot more engaged. I have seen a lot of improvements, both upstairs and in memory care as my mom is a candidate for their memory care when it expands next year.

My mom hated the food at her last place and when she moved here she wasn't too happy but the team even worked on a special menu for her and she is a lot happier. I would really recommend everyone to not just make a judgement without talking to residents and meeting the staff and the community. I was really pleasantly surprised and glad I followed my instincts.

Aegis Lodge in the Totem Lake area has been wonderful for our Mom. She is so happy there and my brother and i now have peace of mind that she is well cared for. The new Director, Stephanie, pays attention to details and this is seen from the Care Staff who have been excellent to the servers in the dining area who know mom's preferences. Whenever I have a question, I get answers fast. Our mom has all her favorite staff and there are new ones hired too and they are top-notch. We have nothing but good to say for the caring people who help us care for our mother. It is so different from what I read from someone else, but we are happy and others we talk to who have loved ones at Aegis Lodge have great things to say as well. These people are compassionate and skilled...that's what we want. I rest well at night knowing this.

Care staff is great but it stops there. Admin is unorganized, unreliable, unable to address problems, deflects concerns. Aegis is WAY over priced and memory care area is dark, dirty and sad. The residents are left to sit most of the day in uncomfortable and dirty furniture. Our mom was there for 1.5 yrs and we have moved her to a less expensive, cleaner and kinder place. Aegis care is greatly lacking compared to other facilities. We were so surprised to see our mom thriving after leaving the existence of Aegis. She is now living. There are too many problems to list but her room was dirty, always smelly and was not repainted nor was the carpet cleaned before she moved in. They lost two sets of expensive sheets, didn't use the 2 water proof mattress pads we furnished so it brand new mattress was destroyed in her time there. Admin staff was slow to contact us when she had problems such as broken denture. It would take days to learn of this so she was left without teeth. She received 2 flu shots because Aegis neglected to record the one THEY gave her. Our mom was often left sitting in dirty and wet diapers as care staff was forced to care for too many. Lastly - their $6,000 move in fee is a rip off as they did nothing to improve the memory care area. It is sad that they are taking advantage of the misfortune of others.

Memory care area is very grim and bleak. The aids are great, but over worked in this area. It's cramped with old smelly furniture and the poor people spend most of the day sitting. Considering their price and the $6K non refundable fee

This place changed names from Heritage to Aegis Lodge but it is the same building. My aunt lives there, she really likes it and we enjoy visiting her, it is different to other retirement homes we visited, they have a fish pond, aviary and a trail. It seems that most of the residents are very active so at least it is not one of those depressing places where you wouldn't want to live.
