There has been a bar/eatery in this spot from time immemorial, or for at least the last 50 years. I was sorry to see this one's predecessor, Grady's, go by the wayside. But the Montlake Ale House is holding up its end of the neighborhood deal. In addition to a good selection of beers the basic food is worth coming back for. The burgers are juicy and tasty, the salads are fresh and enormous, and, although this isn't a Mexican restaurant, the Mexican influenced dishes, including the enchiladas are very good. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.

A "10" for Grady's is not the same as a "10" for the Metropolitan Grill; but this is in the top of the sports bar class. After a few visits, I'm greeted with a glass of iced water when I walk in the door then the service continues cheerful and even better. The happy hour menu extending until 23:00 is a bargain; the fish'n'chips fresh, moist and succulent. The regular menu is extensive for a bar and supplemented by exciting daily specials. The "egghead" burger is a substantial lunch as a bacon-cheese burger with fried egg. Liquor is comprensive and includes nine different vodkas and fairly poured drinks. Draught offerings include Thomas Kemper root beer and 1-2 beers rotating with special price. The seating layout is conducive to small and medium sized group meetings. The brightly lit toilet is CLEAN and spacious albeit the linoleum needs changing.

Pros: high quality food, close 4 Husky events, pool/darts game area

Cons: parking can be far, only 15 taps, no Rainier on draught

Its nice to have this bar as a change from the other bars in the u district. Grady's is really low key and has great food (even better with happy hour prices). Free darts, cheap pool. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed compared to other bars in the area.
