Left Bank has a really interesting mix of books; lots of it anti-establishment, but for a variety of different subjects, from radical politics to environmental issues to conspiracies to indigenous cultures, etc, etc. They carry both new and used books, which I think is nice.
If you look around, you're bound to find something interesting here on some subject. They also have a program for sending books to prisoners.
Contrary to the category this was listed in at the time I'm writing this review, however, they do not carry seafood...

if you remember red and black books on capitol hill, then you'll love left bank books located at the pike place market!if you want a book by mumia abu jamal, and are disappointed that there are none at your local chain, you can find them all here, and if they are sold out they will be happy to order them for you. they have thousands of books by poets, activists, political prisoners, and everyday people. there are stickers, calendars, books on cd, t- shirts, postcards, etc.. there are books outside the store, that if you buy, the proceeds go to books to prisoners! great place to hang out on a rainy day. this shop is small, but definitely worth the visit. don't forget to look around upstairs!

This bookstore doesn't have a starbuck's within, so if that's what you're looking for, don't keep reading.

What it DOES have is a book for every topic you've ever heard of that made you say 'WHAT? I didn't know my gov't did THAT' Tons of political and social books are here, along w/history, many mags, zines, patches, stickers, t-shirts and indy art/music offerings.

PROS: Anti Establishment
CONS: What? They take Debit?

Warning: If you are a conservative you should probably stay out. Otherwise enjoy. This is a really neat little place with two floors and several nooks and crannies full of interesting and unusual books, with a leftist slant. Barnes and Noble it Aint! (and that's a good thing!)

So when I moved to Seattle, it was just before WTO. I got a bit political and radical during that year, and this was a good source of books and info on the subjects I was curious about. This is NOT your mainstream bookstore. Don't go in looking for People Magazine. But if you want to get a non-corporate view of what is going on in the world - and are feeling a bit revolutionary, GO HERE. I can't even give full description of all they have. It is an adventure in itself to go here - right in the heart of Pike Place Market. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR CHAINS! (and a few bucks for books and magazines) :-)

This bookstore is a worker's collective ideally located right at the entrance to the Pike Place Market. Their texts focus on social change, citizen action, and politics. They have great ethnic studies, women's studies, and queer studies sections. Posters, stickers, magazines, and T-shirts geared towards political activism round out their offerings. A great store if you want to shake things up!

The selection is esoteric, but that just means you're pretty well guaranteed that any title you select will offer you new information. Bookstores of this stripe have a very valuable place in any city which prides itself on diversity and circumspection. This bookstore in particular deserves your direct, intentional support.
