I can't say enough about this hospital and especially about Dr. Travis Robertson-Howell. My dogs have been his patients for about 2 years. He is through and honest, soothing and calm. Recently he diagnosed my dog with a life threatening illness, and helped me to find a good internist to consult with. He saved her life. He followed up with her care, and checked in with me to see how things were going. He is also considerate about treatments and costs and always tries to explain everything in the simplest possible terms so that I can make an informed decision. He spends as much time as I need and answers every question I ask. There is easy parking, the front desk staff and the nurses are great, and they work very well with my insurance company. In short, they are as close to perfect as possible.

I have been going to Dr. Robertson-Howell for 2 years. I have three dogs and he's calm and soothing with all three, but recently his quick action saved my Morkie GrisGris's life. She had a rare auto immune disorder with bruising on her tummy. He did a blood panel and she had a platelet count of 10 and was in danger of bleeding out. He referred me to internists, consulted with them, kept me in the loop, and recommended she be hospitalized. Within one day she was on her way to recovery thanks to Dr. Robertson-Howell's intervention. He's always frank and honest and answers all my questions so that I can make an informed decision regarding treatment options. He has never recommended any unnecessary tests, and is always considerate of costs. I highly recommend him. The nurses and receptionists are helpful and kind, too. My dogs have always received the best care possible at West Seattle Animal Hospital.

After I moved to West Seattle from California, I started bringing my two cats here on a coupon. We have seen most of the vets here, but in particular Dr. Johnson and Dr. Quincy. They are gentle and thorough and always take time to answer questions, explain options and treatments, and I have found them helpful in giving price estimates for planning out my cats' health care. Staff are caring too. They have people that come in for some specialized things like ultrasounds and cardiology, and refer out for more complex operations. I finally lost my two old kitties, and one of them I had put to sleep here. They were very compassionate, explained everything, and gave us plenty of time alone to say goodbye. They have also been very helpful assessing and treating my new shelter & rescue kitties who all had different problems when they came to me. Once or twice I have felt an individual missed something or I disagreed with a charge, but this has been more than compensated for by their long-term competence, caring and flexibility. If your medications are not time-urgent, check whether you can buy from Amazon, or even Costco or a drugstore, as most vets are pricier to buy medication from. If $ is not an issue and convenience is, buy here and help support the great vets, staff, and nice facilities, all of which cost $! If you haven't been to them before, check out the coupon for a free first exam in the coupon book "The Best OF Alki/West Seattle."

I had taken in my poodle to be spayed a few months ago and would like people to know what happened. Upon picking up my dog from surgery, I took her home to discover that one of her nipples had been shaved off!!!

I immediately called and they were less than apologetic and said that she must of had small nipples and these things happen. She does not have small nipples, and still, I find it absurd that this is acceptable...

I have since switched my pets back to their other vet clear across town on Queen Anne. Amazing there, upon her last check up on Queen Anne, I can clearly see the difference between the quality care I hadnt received at the West Seattle Animal Hospital.

I was adopted by a very furry, independent neighborhood cat named Axel. The previous owners had no real background on him so I had to make sure he was up to speed on his shots. I took him there for a physical on a coupon which was free for the physical and then they performed his shots. It was great! Of course they recommended a dental visit and gave me an estimate so that I could plan for it. I was happy that they did that as I really want him to be happy, healthy and live among us for a long time. I did not feel pressured to make the appointment. They are all very pleasant and understanding about people who have few resources but want to get care for their pets.

I recently moved to West Seattle and needed to get my cat in to see a vet before we boarded her for Christmas. My old vet was on Capital Hill and outrageously expensive. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I had gotten West Seattle Animal Hospital's name from a friend. I am so glad I did! I will be moving my dog's chart over from the Capital Hill vet asap :) Fees here were reasonable, plus my great experience, detailed below.

It was a Saturday - a vet appt on a Saturday?! Amazing! Parking was great - especially because it was raining and I got to park in the garage for free and not get my kitty wet. Then I went inside. It is quite possibly the cleanest vet hospital I have ever been in. I was immediately impressed. Additionally, there were two waiting areas - the dog people had placed themselves near the front door, and the cat people had congregated in the waiting area further away. This was nice because it eliminated the cat/dog scuffle that sometimes happens in more confined waiting rooms.

The staff was professional, congenial, and efficient. They got my kitty back in mere minutes and we even got a mini-tour on our way to the examination room. Still, so clean and new!! The exam itself went perfectly and the vet was nice and full of information - and great with my kitty. When I got ready to book the boarding stay for Christmas, I was also offered a tour of the boarding area, which I gladly accepted. Once again, clean, nice, efficient. I felt confident my cat would be well looked after. All in all, it was the easiest, most pleasurable vet experience I've ever had.

Highly recommended.

My dog was sick, I spoke with the vet who made an early morning appointment for him for the following day-that I appreciated. When I arrived, the clerk out front acted as thought he had never heard of my dog and kept asking if this was routine. I thought it might have been in his records as I was not sure of the test he was supposed to be getting. I told the front person what I thought I he needed. Probably because I was upset that my dog was ill, I may not have used the proper terminology-after all, I did not go to vet school. Somehow, it got back that I miscommunicated-don't they do proper chart notes? This is like having a sick child-suddenly you are very worried about your pet and maybe you don't know the proper lingo and you are wrong or miscommunicating? Uh, what is wrong with their customer service? Making the pet owner wrong? I am in the process of getting treatments for him so won't change this time. I am not sure I will return.
I am giving two stars because I was happy with my earlier visits and the pleasant vet they assigned me. She is also the one who did not put in the right chart notes. Soooooooooooooooo?

Pros: Open 7 days a week, easy parking and they seem to like pets

Cons: Front desk help, at least this once, very dense or worse yet, uniformed by the vet

In my personal experience I really felt that they took advantage of me when it came to my cat. Everytime I had to bring her here even for something as simple as shots, they would recommend different costly procedures that they said she needed done. They made me feel like I was an uncaring Mom if I didn't do these things. Then they suggested special food that I don't feel she really needed. It was by perscription and was costly.
