Unnecessary repairs, incompetent service
by Unhappy N.
I took my car in because it was overheating. They were unable to diagnose what was causing the problem, but I was told that if I agreed to an estimated $2500 in repairs, they would take apart my head gasket, send it to a machine shop, replace everything associated with my coolant system (including replacing or repairing my radiator and several unnecessary flushes), eventually they hoped to fix the problem somewhere along the way.
I paid over $100 to be told this nonsense. Waste of money!
I took my car to another mechanic, who properly diagnosed the problem: a faulty thermometer. My cost to fix the overheating problem? $100.
I had inspections of my engine done (for peace of mind since NW Autos had scared me) and the conclusion of two separate mechanics was that my car was in great condition and none of the repairs NW Autos had told me that needed to be done were necessary, including the flushes. In fact, I was told my engine was near perfect.
Don't go to NW Autos! I went because I had a prior good experience when NW Autos was under different management. This is no longer the case, unfortunately. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION! I'm glad I did.

Stellar Service!
by Heather H.
Doug & Raul exemplify professionalism. After working up a quote for a blown clutch I asked if all items were 'high priority'. A new quote was provided offering a prioritized service check list with suggested dates to have less immediate work done later. 'You get what you pay for' and with NW Auto you get master technicians, expediency, honesty and sincere friendly professionals.

Consistently Good Service
by choirboy454
I have been dealing with NW Automotive for over 10 years and six different vehicles. What I appreciate is the conservative approach to problems. They always try to find a cost effective solution, first. Regardless, they are always upfront and spell out the options. Like someone else has said, it is like a doctor/patient relationship.
I appreciate their honesty and work ethic. This is a company that truly knows their stuff, practices great customer service and is totally professional.

Great Service, Great People,
by Scholar013
Northwest Automotive scores FIVE STARS for the quality of their work, honesty, and professionalism in their industry.
That is a BOLD STATEMENT. Please take a moment and let me PROVE IT.
What make them stand out in a positive manner is their approach automotive difficulties, one of a Doctor / Patient relationship. They believe that is it more important to tell you an uncomfortable truth that might be unpleasant to hear now, but WILL SAVE YOU HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS and KEEP YOU SAFE ON THE ROAD later. This view is a bit more holistic and in depth, rather than the fast food mentality of solve the cosmetic problem and hope for the best that you will find in other shops.
Case in point- My windshield wiper stopped working. I called Northwest Automotive (I have their number saved in my phone for just such an emergency) and asked when I could bring it in. Luckily they had an opening the next morning and I dropped it off first thing. The Manager called me before noon the same day and explained that while it would be possible to get the motor working again, however the problem was electrical and would reoccur later until the motor was replaced. When I asked why this was I got a clear, non jargoned explanation as so someone not in their industry could understand and be comfortable with what they were telling me. They answered all of my questions, and they advised me that while the simple repair might be cheaper, knowing the state we live in would I really want to run this risk of having my wipers stop *again* during rush hour, on I5. Not a scare tactic, but a painful truth as to what might happen if I neglect the problem because it?s inconvenient to my pocketbook. They preformed the band aid fix while they are waiting for the new parts to come in, and the largest benefit to this is the fact that they have now isolated the problem and should have NO COMPLICATIONS when the time comes for installation that will SAVE ME MONEY on labor.
HONESTY, INTEGRITY, and PROFESSIONALISM. This is what you are paying for when you have automotive work done and the value of your hard earned dollar is appreciated at Northwest Automotive. They give 110% to keeping you safe on the road, and you cannot put a dollar value on that.
Pros: Professional, pro-active, and personable.
Cons: They get INCREDIBLY busy because they're so good.

Best pricing and customer service here
by MAWaldrum
These guys are great! Very friendly and knowledgeable! I have a Nissan Frontier and Northwest Auto has continually given me better pricing for repair then any foreign car shop has quoted. They're always on time with the repair, but call for an appointment early in the week, because they can book up fast. For little emergencies like a flat tire, they can generally fit in in a day or 2, always with a smile!
Pros: Timely service, nice location, friendly

If you have a classic car, stongly consider this place for your repairs.
by greenstingray
doug and raoul are all over it. i took my 1969 vette into them last winter and they not only took care of several problems with my car, but they went the extra mile to make sure that my repairs would stand the test of time. Over the years, I've been to several local mechanics and I've been underwhelmed. Northwest Automotive is the real deal. If you have a classic car, you should drop by this shop.... they get it.

Excellent place to go for auto repairs!
by svc98103
Highly recommended. Been going here for 15 plus years. Professional, knowledgable and friendly staff. Being a woman, going to a mechanic can be intimidating but I'd never felt that way here. They always provided answers and explanations to my questions on car problems. My cars rarely had any problems after a repair...the one time it did, they replaced it free of charge, even though the warranty had just expired! (the problem was due to a defective part that was NOT due to NW Auto.). Prices are about what others in the market charges. I know when I get work done there, I have a peace of mind driving afterwards.

Friendly Service, Great Experience and Satisfaction Gaurenteed
by grief
I have been taking my cars and trucks to the professionals at NW Automotive since I discovered them 8 years ago. I would not take my precious baby to any other mechanic.
There are always a lot of options when it comes to car repair but these guys are the best your going to find in Seattle. They have certified Techs and actually CARE about their customers, they remember names, send friendly reminders when the oil change is due. Try and get caring from your discount boxtop shops, or fly by oil change places. NW Automotive has made me feel like I have my own family mechanic, someone I can trust and talk to about serious things, like HorsePower and Torque, as well as the regular oil changes.
I always get an accurate estimate with everything my car needs done. I've used their pick up and drop off service, the driver was friendly, polite, knew all about my repair and spoke with me about it on the way to my house.
The repairs and replacements done here are the best modern technology and years of experience can make them. This is one shop where when you get something fixed, nothing else breaks a few days later and the origional problem STAYS fixed. I've never had a problem here, unlike other shops who don't care about anything but your money and as much as they can get.
The work is quality, and you will not pay any more than you would other places.
In this world you do get what you pay for, and I'll always choose the piece of mind that paying for the level of quality car repair and customer service that NW Automotive gives.
If you want substandard service and repairs on the cheap, don't go here.
Pros: Quality Repairs, Friendly Service Techs, Awesome followup and professionalism
Cons: Traffic can get bad during UW Sporting events or Graduation.

Accurate but Unscrupulous!
by emochang
After paying about $50 to find out that we needed just under $1000 in repairs, we took the car to our trusted hometown mechanic up North. After he completed the job for $561, he told us that Northwest Automotive had been accurate in diagnosing the trouble with the radiator, but padded the estimate with unecessary things like a $75 coolant flush when the coolant would have been flushed out as a result of the work associated with replacing the radiator anyways.
Bottomline, great place to go if you want to pay a premium for unnecessary and non-existent repairs!

*THE* place to go for Auto repair
by scholar013
I have take my vehicles here for years. The staff is helpful, thorough, capable, and knowledgable. If you ever have issues, bring you car here. While it is a little more expensive than a discount shop, the value of what you get for your dollar far exceeds the drawback of of a slightly higher cost. When I bring my car here I know that it will be done right the first time, and that will save me alot more $$$ down the road than a coupon.
Pros: Smart, Efficient, Excellect Value
Cons: none

The Best in Seattle
by foodbringer
My experience with NW automotive has been great. The owner trully listens to what you say, and works with your needs and your cars. Most of the repair people are master certified and have been repairing cars for years. I would recommend this repair shop to anyone who wants a job well done.
Pros: Friendly, Helpful, good work
Cons: no waiting room

They only know replacement
by lz2000
Mechanics here don't know how to repair a car at all. Whenever there is a problem with a part in a car (three times for me), they will let me replace the part instead of repairing it. Once upon a time, they told me to replace a part in my car, which would cost about $500. But, finally, I have my car fixed in another autoshop with only $100. Do consider to see other autoshops when they tell you to replace expensive parts in your car!
