Wasabi Sushi & Izakaya

★★★★☆
Located in the heart of Belltown, Seattle's most exciting restaurant destination, Wasabi offers an extensive array of izakaya, sushi and sushi rolls. We have created a Japanese sushi & izakaya menu, using traditional Japanese ingredients and presented in a contemporary style that has thrilled guests since our opening in the summer of 2000.

One of our favorite spots. The New design is so beautiful and the service and food is always the BEST! Last night we had tuna, salmon and cucumber crab rolls. Great for a no carb diet!

I'm a big fan of Wasabi Bistro, but they've been closed a long time (as of December 2010). Please, fire your contractor, get one in that can do a better/faster job. The website originally said it would reopen in October, now they say

I had heard for years that Wasabi was good. I finally went for dinner and was impressed with the extensive menu. Our large group ordered a bunch of rolls. There were so many to choose from and when six of them came out, they were visually stunning. I liked them alright--- there's too much going on w/ tempura, sauce, the fish wrapped around the outside...they all seemed like versions of the same roll. Maybe we didn't choose well...dunno but next time I'll stick w/ the nigiri because the fish is really fresh and tasty and they don't skimp on portions like some places. I think I'm more of a purist when it comes to sushi but it's great for groups and there's something for everyone.

Pros: Fresh seafood

Decent food during happy hour, but I couldn't wait to get out of there! What is with the short, stocky blondish bartender during the weekday? By far the most unfriendly, irritable bartender I've met since I've been in Seattle. He could make an experience there so much better if only he'd take two minutes to acknowledge a customer and not seem so irritated by taking my order. And it wasn't like he was busy since there were only 2 other customers there at 4p! Someone remind him that Wasabi Bistro is not a swanky bar in NYC where hot bartenders might have some license to be cold.... Manager, lighten this guy up!

Cons: Day Bartender

If you're looking for good sushi in a happening spot with good service, Wasabi Bistro is it.

Serving Japanese fusion in a contemporary setting, Wasabi Bistro is always bustling. It's the perfect place to bring out of town guests as well as a first date.

Some items not to be missed are the warm mushroom salad and Romantic Mermaid roll. They also have a great happy hour with a variety of drink and food specials. I recommend the okonomiyaki seafood pancake, a rich seafood crepe, paired with the Pear Passion sake.

Valet parking is available evenings.

Wasabi has some of the best rolls i've ever had...highly recommend volcano and rock star rolls. I prefer to sit at the bar. The bartenders are very friendly and provide great service.

Wasabi is one of my favorite restaurants! The Second Ave. Roll is definitely something to write home about! Tony and Rob are extremely friendly and are the reason that I will only sit at the bar! Thanks guys for always making everyone feel so special and taken care of each time!

We had a large group gathering and decided on sushi. We called for a lot of rolls for pick up and they were very accomodating, ready in 30 minutes. They threw in some edamame too. Rolls were good! Its the kind of place you need to sample and see which rolls you like best.

I like this place. The happy hour is great, and you can try a bunch of little stuff with a friend or a few friends and its pretty cheap. The sushi is very good too and the atmosphere is nice but chill. I did have guy server there one time that must have sipping the sake a little to much in the back or something though. He could not for the life of him figure out how to separate the bill for my friends and I. Other than that it is a decent price with a good variety and its pretty quick.

This place has great sushi and good happy hour prices. Also, good service. But if you're looking for an entree other than sushi, I would not eat here.

I had a really great experience at The Wasabi Bistro this past weekend. I brought my family who I had not seen in quite a while. The staff was so friendly that they broke the ice. From the management to the servers , they were all perfect. They are all very professional but know what to say at the right time. Not to mention the service was great. The sushi wowed my family and I'll be back as soon as I can. I will always be thankful for that night.

It's like this, I go every where in this town to eat sushi and nothing compares to the Wasabi Bistro. I keep coming back because of the consistency of everything from the food to the service. I'm there about 5 or 6 times a month and the staff treats me better there than anywhere else I go by far. This place is so unbelieveably busy and they are always friendly and attentive. I've given other places in the Bell Town area more than enough chances and the service is always disappointing. There is one place specifically that I know is considered somewhat of a rival of Wasabi Bistro, I'll just say it starts with a U, I've been there four times and the servers have always been ridiculously bad. Don't even try it. At Wasabi I recall getting OK service once but every other time has been really good. I love the rolls, gotta try the tarantula! The last time I was there was last weekend. I tried a special martini with sake that was amazing. I can't remember the name of it though. The waitress was beautiful along with the presentation of the sushi. I just think they've got it there and most people I know agree.

Three of us went to WB for lunch today and were deeply saddened by the fact that the mighty has fallen. Here is a run-down of the experience:

1) Ordered two Wasabi Mary's (sake, vodka, Bloody Mary mix). Apparently, they was no bartender on shift, so the gal making the drinks sampled our would-be concoctions no less than three times, jerking her head back each time. To be sure the cocktail was undrinkable she enlisted the tasting prowess of another three servers (all of whom used the completely acceptable straw vacuum technique to sample.) Needless to say we had lost confidence in those drinks and ordered Vs & Ts and Gs & Ts. Our server made it known that she would not be chrging us for the drinks. (Gee thanks)

2) Ordered to sashimi plates (C's?) and a roll plate (A?). While the roll plate was quite acceptable, the sashimi was too thick (and mushy). This may seem contrary to popular opinion, but, yes, you can have too thick of a cut of sashimi. I mentioned this to the server in a nice way; she took the size of the cut as a positive statement on the value of their establishment. (Beware value-oriented sushi)

3) Next we couldn't help to overhear our dining neighbors say that something "doesn't taste right", "please take it away", "I feel sick", and "I need the check before I get sick". This continued to spoil our dining experience. (I think they were partially comped, as well)

I used to hold WB as among the finest sushi restaurants in town, now I will have to avoid it for personal and business lunches. I do want to say, however, that while the service was s-l-o-w today, the server had a great personality and was willing to help us find a solution to the problems we experienced. (I wonder if she kows of a good sushi place in town?)

I so love this place and have for a couple of years now. The rolls and sushi are amazing and the service is always top notch. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and attentive every time. They have never failed me. There are other places that have opened around town but Wasabi Bistro is still the best.

Wasabi Bistro (Seattle): Good Sushi. Great Sashimi. No Toro, but the albacore made up for it. Decent brew on tap. Friendly staff. Great happy hour prices (4?6 pm). Great portions. Kid friendly. Rice was well prepared. Fast service. Still does not even compare to Sushi Raw in San Diego.

I love Wasabi Bistro. It is in the heart of belltown. Unfortunately that means parking can be a hassle, but totally worth it in my opinion. I love their food, and the prices are not too bad. The service is good for the most part. Overall I have yet to find another sushi place I like more.

I took my husband here for his birthday. We were given an excellent table by the window. The service was fantastic, the food even better. The best part was when they gave us a green tea tiramisu free of charge with a candle in it and the words "Happy Birthday" written in sauce on the plate. The service was so excellent, my husband and I joked about the guys who brought us water. We would drink about 2 inches down of our water glass and then time it to see how long it took the water guys to fill up the glass. They were so on top of it, sometimes I barely had time to set the water glass down before they were there for a refill. Those guys take their jobs VERY seriously!
The only negative was the hostess' outfit. I am totally ok in general with women wearing revealing clothing but seriously. Her dress was paper thin and wet suit tight. Pretty trashy. And distracting. Not for my husband but for me! I couldn't look away. It was like a train wreck. Her attire might be cool at a strip club but not a nice restaurant. The other hostesses were just fine.

I always leave very happy after dining at Wasabi Bistro. The sushi is the best and the rolls are so good. The servers have been really attentative everytime I've been there too. It's always so crowded but they do a good job. I send a lot of clients there and their reviews seem to be the same. It will always be one of my favorite places.

I've been coming to this restaurant almost since day one and I've seen it change. First for the worse then for the better. When it first opened it was great, there a was quaint kind of sexiness to it then after about two years it got very bad. More and more people started coming and the staff either couldn't handle it or didn't care to. The service was ok, bad, or nonexistent. I lived in Lynnwood at the time so I stopped coming for a while. I remember alot of the servers trying to get by with their looks or personality. Of course, some didn't have a personality. At first I thought it was kind of funny but I quickly made a decision to not come to the Wasabi Bistro any more, especially all the way from Lynnwood. About a year ago a friend of mine convinced me to come back and I noticed a huge difference. Every time I've dined there since then I've had great experiences. Sure, some are better than others but consistently the staff has been helpful and attentive. They are definately attractive but it it's obvious now that service is becoming priority. I was there last week and had a great dinner. I might have a bad experience in the future but I'll keep coming back because it seems like they care, and the sashimi is the best in town. Somebody will probably have a negative experience and write about it, it's inevitable. I just want to give credit where credit is due. I do think they've had the the same furniture in the bar area for a while though, might be time for a change there. Otherwise this place rocks!

We were at Wasabi Bistro both Friday and Saturday night and our experience both times was fabulous. We spent a total of seven hours there between both nights. We ordered a few large platters of sashimi and all of it was so good. I have to say, I've been here before and I've always enjoyed it but last weekend the service was phenominal. Our waiters both times were perfect and we looked around and noticed the others were all so spot on. They have a great saketini, I can't remember the name of it but has blueberries. We'll be back soon!

I came here and sat at the bar by myself for a quick bit after work last week. Solo dining makes me feel awkward, but the bar tender was very cool and answered all my questions about the menu as if he was going to prepare it himself. He even recommend a saki-martini thing that was really good to go with it. i have been here before at lunch and usually get the bento box, and have always had good service and food. this is always I place I recommend to people when they are venturing to Belltown.

I've been coming to Wasabi Bistro for about two years now. We found this place while we were on vacation when living in San Francisco. There's nothing like this place down there. The rolls are creative and the sushi is not only fresh but you get so much with each cut. The service and ambiance are always great also. I wasn't sure if I was going to write anything but I saw a previous review that I disagree with. I know people keep returning to this place because of how it's run. I am here about 3 or 4 times a month either with my husband or my girlfriends and we are treated better here than anywhere else we go. That's why we keep coming back. I know it's April Fools Day but I would never joke about our favorite restaurant.

I've been going to Wasabi for five years now. I really enjoyed dining here in the beginning, but gradually it has gotten worse and worse. I was there the other day with some business associates and was completely embarrassed by things that used to be better than average. The servers were unprofessional, inattentive, and lazy. Ours for example had her hair unkept, she was chewing gum and smelled like she had just been smoking. It was very hard to talk business because the music was much too loud. We also had to wait forever for our food and when it finally came, the quality of it wasn't very good. The chicken was dry, the salmon was overcooked, and our dessert had already melted once it had reached the table. The sushi was okay, but that was the only thing that I would not complain about after the experience. I feel sorry that what used to be such a good restaurant has sunk to such a low level.

I am a freaquent visitor and I have to order the green decadence roll every time I come even though it's a vegitarian option. I'll get it even if I get a bento box. I do love this place for other reasons though. The atomosphere is cool and hip but by no means Seattle pretencious. I have been there for lunch, happy hour and dinner and always get great service.

We travel back and fourth from I lLuv Sushi to Wasabi. The Sushi is better and bigger portions at Wasabi. But the service and Sushi Chef's at I Luv Sushi is better. The Chef's at ILS are very talkative and are eager to have you sample their Sushi specials.
At Wasabi they can hardly even look at you. Last night Brook served us at the S-Bar and he was great. Friendly attentive and we never had to look around for him or ask for anything. I give Wasabi 4 stars and Brooks 5.

Are you looking for first-class, melt-in-your-mouth nigiri cut by an expert? Try Shiki in Queen Anne. If, however, what you crave is adventurous, non-traditional, delicious rolls served with drinks at midnight in a fun, people-watchy environment, come on in! Wasabi Bistro feels a bit glamorous--though not intimidatingly so--and so it's a great place to go on a date, provided you show up late so it's not too crowded. Or show up with a group of friends. If you can swing it, the happy hour has amazing deals. Turn the menu right over to the rolls section: the flash-fried rolls and the rolls with spicy mayo are the ones you want... if you don't want to eat rice for some reason, I highly recommend the sashimi salads. Mmmmm!

I am at Wasabi at least once during the week and one of the weekend nights every week and it is always wonderful. The rolls are to die for and the service is always extremely attentive. I saw the last review and that's funny because I was there last night (fri.) and there was over an hour wait at 8:30. I've sat at the sushi bar, in the bar area, and the regular dining area and had many different servers and they are all so good and so cute. I do think that the guys behind the sushi bar could be a bit more social though. I come back for so many things: the food, the service, the beautiful crowd, the buzz.

First off, when we arrived the place wasn't even that busy. There were about 5 tables max on a Friday night. The atmosphere was decent when we walked in but we felt like we were being schmoozed by the wait staff as if they're looking for us to dig deep in our pockets for a good tip. The staff messed up our order twice and then messed up our bill by overcharging us for things we didn't order or eat. We sat at the sushi bar and the chefs wouldn't even talk to us. The spent their time making radishes into flowers or cucumbers into pinwheels. Basically useless decoration... When the chefs finally got our order, we watched them make our nigiri first and then let it sit on the counter top for about 10 minutes while some kid very poorly made our rolls. This was the worst sushi restaurant we've ever been to, don't plan on going there again, and will steer any friend from going there.

o.k., i'll bring this right to the front: if you're a sushi snob, this place is not for you.

BUT, if you like really good food, you'll love wasabi bistro. go for happy hour and try the tempura seattle roll. nummy...

enjoy!

I've been here on several occassions and absolutely love the food. The drinks are great, and the services is always spot on. They have a great variety of rolls, fresh sushi and sashimi. And for the non-sushi lover they have a decent selection of various appetizers and meals that will leave everyone satisfied. Try the Kalbi beef it is delicious.

Best rolls on the planet, amazing sushi, and great service. I'm in there all of the time and I always have the best experience. I really like the staff, they're professional, friendly, and cute and that's hard to come by.
Because Wasabi Bistro is so busy, I'm bound to have a negative experience at some point but it hasn't happened yet. I feel as though I owe them this review because they've always been so good to me.

Friday is a really busy night for Wasabi Bistro. I would recommend anyone who plans on coming in on Friday to make a reservation. Unfortunately I did not know it was going to be busy because it was my first time going there so I didn't make a reservation. I waited almost 45 minutes for my table which was no problem at all. Wasabi Bistro has a nice bar section where my friends and I grabbed a couple of drinks and chat while we waited for our table. The service there was great I'm not sure why other people complained about it. The host checked up with us every ten minute to let us know how our table is coming. The food was great and it did not take long at all. The server was really nice and took great care of us. The My friends and I had a great time last night thanks to Wasabi Bistro. We will definitely come back.

Consistently poor service, but the combination of ambiance and price make the happy hour worth checking out. The table service hasn?t seemed to care very much, and had to be waved down for missing utensils/napkins and refills. The sushi here isn?t the best, but is decently priced during happy hour. The spicy crab roll is deep fried goodness and the sashimi set is a nice touch to any order. The house sake is very sweet (a bit too sweet) and very cheap at $4 large size. The environment is relaxed, dimly lit, with lots of chatter in the background.
How good is the sushi? This isn?t the place to go to enjoy sushi, there are far superior sushi restaurants, but Wasabi Bistro is a good spot if you just want to enjoy cheap small plates and music with a few friends. Happy hour is the way to go, and on Thursday nights you can enjoy it with Brazilian Jazz. The live music is from Sunday to Thursday 9:30pm to 11:30pm. The late night happy hour is during the same days, 11pm to 1am.

I took some of my good friends who were from out of town to have dinner last Saturday and just wanted to say that the food there were amazing! The sushi there were also delicious. The hostess there were great. They worked there way to have us seated sooner than we thought. The only thing I was dissapointed about was the service. We had to wait for a long time for our server to take our orders. Everytime we asked for something, she would take a long time then we were have to remind her. Not only that, she also made a bad impression when we All I can say is... great food and great place to eat but bad service.

I usually don't go on to these kind of sights but I have to say that I think I literally need this place. I tend to agree with some of the better reviews. I've always had amazing sushi and great service, end of story. I go to many bell town restaurants and nothing compares to this place. I will go to another sushi place occaisonally just to do something different but I always come back to Wasabi. It's kind of funny, in regards to something said in one of the previous reviews, I've seen a few of the old Wasabi servers around town also and I think they got fired or for some reason can't get hired back. The staff that's there now is very good. Everyone has their opinion and that's just mine.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE REVIEW PRIOR TO MINE. AT ONE TIME WASABI WAS THE PLACE TO GO FOR SUSHI AND FUN. THE FOOD WASN'T BAD BUT I RECALL IT BEING BETTER.PERHAPS WITH ALL THE SUSHI BARS IN BELLTOWN NOW DAYS THEY CAN'T KEEP THE GOOD STAFF.I'VE SEEN EX-WASABI EMPLOYEES AT OTHER SUSHI RESTAURANTS. I DON'T CARE TOO MUCH FOR THE " IN YOUR FACE SERVICE" BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO CHECK UP ON US FROM TIME TO TIME BUT INSTEAD THEY WERE BUSY TALKING. ITS AMAZING WHAT YOU CAN HEAR WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO GET THEIR ATTENTION. I USED TO LOVE THIS PLACE.

This used to be my favorite restaurant and one I frequented at least 2x a week before moving to NYC. Well no longer...sayonara Wasabi Bistro. Sushi was not as great as I recall it once was, but more obviously...WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE WAITERS???! Hostess was nice, but waiter was rude and indifferent. Also, as we were waiting for seating, my friend and I had a clear view to a room right behind the sushi bar where it seemed all the waiters were congregating. We could SEE and HEAR them gossip about their customers, tables, etc. It was like a bunch of high school kids back there! Aren't these people supposed be busy?? so sad to say goodbye..but good luck Wasabi..it was nice knowing you .

Every time I come in to the Wasabi it's packed. It seems like there's at least an hour wait whenever I'm in there and I always wait because its always well worth it. The rolls are soooo good and the sushi is extremely fresh with much more fish than rice which I've come to find is not that common. The service has been great every time also. I've had great experiences here.

Flat out, this place is amazing. The sashimi is beautiful and the service is great. I always take my dates here and I end up looking like a rockstar because things always go so well. I read the previous review and all I can say is that if you bother famous people (which I'm sure they did) then you might get thrown out. I don't know all of the management but I've met the GM. He's half the reason this place is so successful. I told him that one time and he seemed both genuinely touched and like he hears it all the time. I recommend this place to everyone. It's extremely popular for a reason.

my boy friend and i were at the bistro this weekend grabbing a drink and i witnessed the rudest treatment that i have ever seen. there was a group of girls that were sitting at the bar, minding thier own business when the manager came over and asked them to leave. apparently, there was some famous baseball players sitting next to them at the bar and the manager was under the impression that the girls were bothering them ( which they werent, cause my boyfriend was staring at one of the players) and didnt want them there.
even when the player informed the management that this was not the case, the manager still was incredibly rude, as well as the waitstaff- who all stood by making comments and snickering!
i will never go back there ever again!

I absolutely love this place. I have been going here for several years and it only gets better with age. The food is fantastic and the service is outstanding. Seattle is not a big place for good customer service, that's one of the reasons why I look forward to going to the Wasabi. The employees and management are very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and detailed. Everyone is treated like a VIP here. I have been in five star restaurants where the service wasn't half as good as here.
The sushi is amazing and the best in town. They have a new roll I tried last weekend that is to die for.
This place is a must try for everyone. Just make sure you make a reservation ahead of time for the weekend, otherwise you'll have a long wait with how popular this place is.

I went to Wasabi Bistro for the first time three months ago because I had heard so much about it. I went in with big expectations and they exceeded all of them. The rolls and sashimi were excellent and the service was even better. To be quite honest the sushi is good here but you can get good sushi all over Seattle, I keep coming back because of how well I'm treated every time I'm there. From the hostesses at the door to the servers and managers I feel as though they really want me to have a great experience. I've been back about eight times now because of them.

Wasabi Bistro is one of my top 5 favorite restaurants in Seattle.
I lunch here fairly often since my office is close, but I also like coming for happy hour or dinner. In addition to the superb taste and quality of the food, each dish is presented with creativity and elegance. I've been visiting this restaurant for quite some time, and on every occasion I am impressed by how organized and friendly the service is... always a plus!

This must have been the worst service in the world.
the tables aren't even clean
i went there twice and will never go there again.
the sushi was just average, but what keeps a business going is their service
there is one particular waitress who seems to have worked there for quite some time who's ability to service is horrible.
they need an entirely new staff or a new manager.
