Merlyn's Science Fiction

Merlyns has been in Spokane for over 25 years. The staff is very knowledgable about most everything and have gone out of their way several times to help me find something.
With magic tourney's, 24 Hour Comic Book Day, TONS of comics and graphic novels (I've never seen so many), painting contests, about every RPG ever made and the Star Wars 501st guys showing up every now and then, Merlyns has always been a great place to visit everytime I'm in town.

Friday Night Magic 08/21/2009 - Changing to Battlegrounds

For the most part Friday Night Magic was fun at Merlyn's until my last game. The lady that works there gave me a penalty for taking too long. Yes I am pretty new to the game and I can accept that penalty. What I can not accept is the way she said it. She 1. Yelled at me and gave me a really dirty look. 2. She went off on a little tangent how it should not take me that long to take my turn.

My problem with this is, that is not the way you talk to your customers. If she would have said "I'm sorry but you are taking to long to take your turn and I must give you a warning, Please finish your turn quickly, you have 20 seconds to finish your turn". That would have been fine. But she did not do that. She yelled at me instead. This is the reason me and my wife will not be attending Merlyn's Magic Night or spending our money at that store. This is just not the way you treat new customers. That was the first time we were there and we loved the other players and most of the staff. But all it takes is one incident to change my mind about a company. The wife and I will be attending Battlegrounds Friday Night Magic instead. They are located in Spokane WA also.

Merlyn's is a wonderfull place for people of all ages to come, browse, and play. Weekly tournaments are held for some of the most popular games. Also, there are regular events where new games are introduced and taught. Gamers are welcome to come and get a table, bring (or buy) books, dice, cards, or whatever your fancy, and have a game. There are boards where you can post ads to buy/sell or host/seek a game. They sell snacks for those of you who go all day! This wonderfull store just keeps getting better over the years.

PROS: Lots of space, diverse interests in one place, all ages welcome.
CONS: The only bad thing about Merlyn's is the fact there is only one restroom.

if you want a comic book, any comic book then this is your one stop shop. they also have figures and board games. the kids that work there know everything there is to know about comics. the prices are great too! their selection of graphic novels is unheard of. everything is there even some mature rated ones.

PROS: great selection and the best customer service
CONS: none
