100$ check up and rotten tires

by Luigi C.

Hi we just paid 100 dollars to have my wifes road bike inspected.

With hardly any use the rear tire blew. When we looked at the tires a bit closer we realised that they were completely rotten! this happened the day before her first triathlon.

So much for a safety check!

Can anyone recommend a good cycle shop in the Ballard area?
So far we have had great service from Speedy Reedy and Recycle Cycle.
Never going back to the #3 best bike shop in the USA! Ha!

Don't be fooled by their 4 star status...

by Scott W.

...because when it comes to the service department, I'd give them one star. My experience involved making a reservation two weeks out for service on two bikes. My scheduled service day of August 8 arrived, I loaded my two bikes and arrived at Gregg's at 10:15 AM to drop them off for a day of service.

Upon my arrival I was told by the clerk that since I didn't drop my bikes off the day before my scheduled service day, that the bikes wouldn't be done until Saturday PM. I was told that if I had brought them in by close of business the day before my scheduled appointment that this wouldn't been an issue.

I asked him to explain to me exactly what would happen with my bikes between close of business the day before and 15 minutes into business the day-of my schedule service appointment. The reply "nothing, that's just our process." Well if you ask me, Gregg's service process sucks!

I was offered the opportunity to leave my bikes through Saturday which I politely declined. The staffer was kind enough to remind me the 90-day free check-up I was having done on one of my bikes (a bike purchased at Gregg's) would not be free at another bike shop. I replied that this was okay and I would prefer to pay another shop to do the work than continue to do business at Gregg's.

Elliott Bay Cycles - here I come!

Terrible Service - Find it somewhere else

by Rich G.

1) Lost my initial order for a bike. I called a week later and they had no record of initial order.

2) When the bike came in, it was built poorly by Gregg's mechanics. Brakes were not toed in, and actually shuddered when brake pressure was applied. Front derailuer was scraping. I asked the mechanics to fix brakes and derailuler before I left store. They fixed the brakes, but not the derailuler. I also notice on the ride home that the front wheel was not true.

3) During the sale, my salesperson informed me that I would receive a 30 day quick tune (tightening of brake cables, etc) and a 90 day full tune-up, free with sale. After 30 days I attempted to get my quicktune and was informed that there is no 30 day tune. Customer service attempted to resolve this by saying "sorry, he misspoke".

Apparently, spending $650 on a bicycle at greggs doesn't get you as much as you'd hope.

Poor Customer Service

by Anonymous

I was in Gregg's Greenlake Cycle the other week and another customer was trying to return a pump that he was having problems with. The person from Gregg's couldn't have made the guy feel smaller in statue or more intimidated. I felt very sorry for the guy. Is there worst customer service than at Greggs? Get your bike needs anywhere but here!

Bicycles galore

by Roger J. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,499

Greggs greenlake bicycle shop is far and away one of Seattles largest and oldest bike shops. They carry all the top brands like trek, specialized and many others. The knowledge of the staff is great.

Greggs Is AWESOME!

by Nick D. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 848

Greg's is one of the best and most complete bike shops I've been to in a long time! If you need a bike or service, get here and you'll get some of the region's best! Greg's has some of Seattle's best mechanics and are willing to answer your questions. It's a tad on the spendy side but that's to be expected when you're so close to downtown.

PROS: Everything!

Bike Shop

by Brandon C. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,559

This place has high end bikes from one thousand to six thousand dollars worth. They have amazing mountain bikes and even more amazing road bikes. Do not come here unless you really want to spend a lot of money. They also have supplies section in the front of the store and that includes helmets and gloves.

Go to Gregg's I COMMAND YOU!!!

by Todd B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,786

If you are in the market for a bike, and it's summertime so you should be, consider Gregg's. The service I got when I shopped here was awesome. I felt comfortable with the sales associate and I knew that I wouldn't be thought less of for asking, what may seem like, obvious questions. I highly reccomend Gregg's.

Nice Bike Shop

by QA500

I recently purchased a bike from Greggs. I came in on a busy Sunday and I was helped immediately. They were able to get me into the perfect bike at the price I wanted. I also had a problem with my bike a few months later and they repaired it at no charge. Great Service and staff.

Pros: Great Customer Service

Too Big to Care

by JLSchaefer

Without a doubt one of the worst bike shops in Seattle. Spent over $1,200 on what should have been a great bicycle. But when it came time for service, they lost my appointment. Made me bring the bike in a second time after waiting several weeks for the first appointment.

Gregg's will sell you whatever accessories THEY think you need. They don't really listen to you. You would be much better served going to any of the numerous small shops, where the owner/employee will take the time to give you serious advice.

Pros: big selection, lots of parts

Cons: no apologies for lost appointments, scheduling an appointment is a nightmare
