        .

After paying nearly $3000 for Macy's top-of-the-line leather sofa from American Leather, we waited several weeks for it, only to find it completely unsuitable when it was finally delivered! Having searched for a long, long while to find just the right sofa that would fit our shorter stature and feel comfortable on the back, we thought at last we'd found one we'd be happy with. The floor model felt comfortable, and sat us upright, which was very important to us. I have neck problems so cannot sit upon a sofa that reclines much without pain. The sofa we received lays us back so far we are nearly reclining, and hurts my back and neck so badly I cannot sit on it. It looks beautiful, but sits nothing like the floor model did. Customer service said we could return it if we wanted to pay a 5% restocking fee! We receive an unsuitalbe piece of furniture and WE are expected to PAY to give it back to them? We called the day it was delivered to complain. We also went in to the store to again sit on the floor model for comparison. The sales associate told us the floor model really should be replaced as it has been on the floor for a LONG TIME, so is probably worn out. If that is the case, how is a customer expected to make an accurate selection? How can you test for comfort and fit if a piece is so old it cannot be used as a reliable comparison? The salesman was supposed to call today about dealing with the problem, but he called in sick, and nobody bothered calling us! We're still waiting for this to be resolved to our satisfaction. Macy's states in writing that they want you to be happy with your purchase and lead you to believe they will do all they can to make it right if not, but what can they do to FIX a sofa that is not made suitably? A customer should be able to return an expensive item if its not exactly like the item they carry in store for comparison, without having to PAY them for taking back their unsatisfactory product! We had to save up for years to buy this sofa, and shopped in several cities and many stores before selecting this sofa, and its upsetting and disappointing to have it turn out so different from the one we tried out, then to have such hassles in trying to get a satisfactory solution. If things aren't worked out to our satisfaction I most assuredly will never buy another single product of any sort from Macy's. We will also share our experience with as many people as possible, whether it turns out to be a good experience or bad. In either case, we will tell everyone we know, and share our experience on the internet. We still are holding out hope that they will make this right, but they don't seem to be making any efforts toward that direction, thus far. Small claims court may be our best option, though it would be wonderful if the store would save us all the stress and hassle that will entail, and do the right thing. We shall see. If they do the honorable thing and make it right, I shall post a satisfactory rating, but at this point I am not able to say much good about the product or the service.
