Mill creek I went there for late lunch on last week. I was craving for some tuna sashimi and beef tataki. So i sat down, ordered a cup of green tea. A Server came to take my order, and then i waited my lovely JP dishes came to me. The beef tataki came, seriously, I've never had a "thick" beef tataki before, they are thick and not in a good taste. I wonder that have they even tried out other JP restaurant's beef tataki or they are just want to "create" their own?! After the beef tataki, i waited and waited for my second dish to come. I thought the waiter helped me to order the blue fin tuna he was introducing to me and i was expecting it much. In fact, he didn't. Okay fine then, i placed the order because I was still hungry. When the tuna dish came to my table, OH! Big disappointment! By the color and the look of the tuna fish, I didn't see they are fresh. The taste? Don't even worth to mention. My advice, never tried dish that is "today's special", or have "special price" got it?! I got it now. Bye, i'll never came back again!

I discovered Sushi Zen in early 2008 and it has been my favorite ever since. Most sushi places are so similar, I didn't realize that even something as basic as maguro could be so much better!

At lunch you get a bowl of miso soup to start out and if you're there at dinner, a bowl of edamame greets you at the table along with a few bites of cucumber salad with shrimp. We usually order the kaarage (think Japanese chicken nuggets) which come with a tasty ginger sauce, to start.

My favorites are Crouching Tuna Hidden Shrimp Roll (Shrimp tempura roll covered with spicy tuna), the Stuffed Tomato (a peppery, crunchy seafood salad on top of rice wrapped in raw tuna), and White Christmas Roll - which is topped with a tasty wasabi-based cream sauce. Their nigiri is spectacular (I always say I'm going to just eat nigiri and then the rest of the menu reminds me how tasty it ALL is) - it just melts in your mouth. I don't like eel, but my friends swear that the Las Vegas Roll is the best thing on the menu. A couple of basics - Spicy Tuna Roll and Dynamite Roll- are also very reasonably priced and so delicious - the perfect amount of heat without detracting from the flavor of the fish.

The service is prompt, but be patient with the sushi on busy nights- they have very talented chefs but they are making these by hand! I've been in a couple of times where an upset (and impatient!) customer gets huffy that it's not out in 10 minutes. Believe me, it's a little wait for the food, but oh-so-worth-it.

The price is right on the sushi and the atmosphere is very friendly. The staff is very nice and the location is great! It's next to Block Buster and Safeway. Try them out it's delicious.

I have gone to Sushi zen for three times in the last two weeks. The service is great and the food came fast. The best hotpot chirashi I have ever had. The stuffed pumpkin is also the best here. Really recommend it if you eat sashimi. I will definitely come back here.

It was my first trip to Sushi Zen from a recommendation from a co-worker. It was Monday night and the place was busy. There were a lot of japanese people so that is always a good sign. We were promptly seated and were given free edamame and a shrimp cucumber dish in some vinegar which was yummy.

Our server mentioned that he was in training but did a great job. He was very prompt and attentive.
We started off with an order of calamari which came out with a huge portion and not too oily. We then had some sashimi. The Salmon and Hamachi just melted in our mouth.

We ordered the Salmon Lemon Roll, the Baked Scallops over California, Stuffed Tomato. The salmon Lemon had such a crisp fresh taste to it with the lemons and green onions. And the baked scallops and stuffed tomato highlighted it for me. My friend is not keen on mayo so it did nothing for him but he scarfed the tuna wrapped around the roll.

We ended the night with some green tea deep fried ice cream. I was soooo Stuffed. We've tried Wasabi bay and Njoy Sushi but they don't compare to this place.

The only downside I can see is that it was busy which made the place kinda loud but I guess a busy place keeps the fish super fresh.

I was there friday night, 3/21/08 at around 8:30pm with my wife for dinner. We sat at the sushi bar and were IGNORED by both the waiters/waitress and the sushi chef. After about 20 minutes, I finally flagged a waiter down and ordered a large bottle of beer and a glass of water. For the next 15 minutes, we were still ignored by the sushi chef untill the waitress finally asked the chef stearnly to assist us. My wife and I place an order of 2 orders of yellowtail and 2 orders of tuna sushi and an order of scallops baked over california roll. The sushie was promtly served to us. The quality of the sushi was good, but the slices were both small and thin.
We had to wait another 15 minutes for our scallops over california roll and when it finally arrived, it was terrible!
It had a "fishey" taste to it and was very bland without and texture or flavor.
I have eaten at some of the best sushi places in southern california and 4-5 differrent one here in the greater seattle area and was just horrified at how bad that dish was.
none the less, we paid our bill and left.
Between the horrible service, thin cuts and horrible roll that we had, I would give this one of the worst sushi expierences of my life!
I have NEVER wrote a bad review before, but our whole evening was a let down all because of Zen Sushi.
Drive to Bellvue and have a much better time, service and quality of both the slices, cuts and overall exp.
**** Trust me...DO NOT GO TO ZEN SUSHI****

I happen to visit this place with my family. I saw the reviews and thought it would be great, but I was really disappointed. I have gone to many places, and this was a true let down. The dragon roll was no dragon. The rice on the rolls were pressed too hard. I thought I was having sticky rice or something. The atmosphere was nice, but the food was a let down for me.

I am thrilled to have found Sushi Zen in Mill Creek. The sushi is wonderful and fresh, and they have so many creative rolls that it's hard to choose. The menu is extensive - great food for non sushi eaters as well. Moderately priced, and great deals during happy hour.

I am a fanatic about sushi. Sushi Zen has blown me away. The sushi is fresh and food is very tasty. It's hard to get good service lately, but the staff at Sushi Zen is fabulous. They took the time to explain any questions I had about the menu. Not to mention that they are friendly and all very good looking. The ambiance is modern and classy, yet warm and inviting. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves great food and service.

This is my favorite spot, and it is just minutes from my home. I come here weekly and the quality and price is always outstanding; btw I am a very picky sushi gal. They have become extremely busy on the weekends, last week Friday there were people waiting out the door. They seat you real fast and it is always worth the wait. I love the salmon-lemon roll and stuffed pumpkin... The service is always extremely helpful, and if you become a regular like me, they will know your order by heart. I would hate to let the secret out but sushizen is a must!

This place is the best! The sushi is great - from the traditional rolls to the inovative sushi zen original rolls, you're gonna find something you like. Don't feel like sushi? They have a full menu with cooked items too! I live in Seattle, but make the trip to Mill Creek just for this place.

Sushi Zen has a romantic atmosphere, so I recommend it for couples out on a date.

The staff is also quite friendly.
Sitting at the counter to get a good look at how the sushi is made by the chefs can be an interesting experience for those who are new to sushi restaurants.

A personal favourite of mine was the Dragon Roll: avocado and eel on the outside wrapped around rice with shrimp tempura and vegetables on the inside.
There's something for everybody: cucumber rolls for vegetarians, bento lunches for people on the go, macha tea ice cream for those wanting to try something a little different.

It's well worth the trip to Mill Creek for a taste of Japan.

No more going to Seattle for great sushi, we now can stay in our neighborhood and still have excellent sushi. With the great selection of rolls it is hard to decide on which ones to order. We have not found one yet that we haven't liked. Sushi was very fresh. Service was excellent, fast and friendly.

I thought the sushi was good. I had the pumpkin roll, which i thought was ok. It was too mayonnaisey for my tatse. i had some sashimi which was good.

But, I think the Wasabi Factory in Everett, near the Boeing factroy, is far better. You get more bbang for your buck. The sushi chef is Japanese and has worked in NY, LA and San Francisco. He serves high quality dishes with excellent presentation and taste, at a reasonable price.

The first time I ate here, I wrote a glowing review. I retract it! The second time, the food was mediocre-soggy tempura, etc.. The third time, after waiting 45+ minutes for a simple order of three sushi rolls THE FOOD NEVER CAME! The waitress never even acknowledged the delay. It wasn't even that busy.
Never again

i have been coming to sushi zen through three owners now. the service is always wonderful. and, while the fish portions vary depending on the owners, i feel the product is pretty solid. i usually come here for lunch and feel that i get a lot for the money. i like the sushi deluxe and a stuffed pumpkin, both of which never disappoint. i also like the chirashi sushi lunch (not to be confused with the chirashi sushi bowl, which is disappointing) they are comfortable with subsitutions, too, which is nice for picky palates. try their pan friend oysters and tempura, as well.

I was so glad to discover Sushi Zen Mill Creek last year when I moved to the area, I keep going back. The sushi is fabulous, the rolls are creative and delicious. From the innovative rolls, I always order Crouching Tuna Hidden Shrimp and the Seattle Tempura Roll. On the traditional side, you can always get super fresh sushi with the Sushi Zen Special. My husband doesn't eat sushi or fish, and they have a good variety of cooked dishes such as Sukiyaki, Chicken Katsu and Pork Katsu. My parents had the Saba Shioyaki and Shrimp Tempura dinner and loved it. The staff is friendly, I remember the first time I was trying to get there I got lost and they were helping me find my way on the phone, then when I finally arrived they gave me an appetizer for free just for the trouble I'd been through. I've been to Japan and had great sushi there, and I can say Sushi Zen's sushi owes nothing to the good places in Tokyo.

I only came here because i saw that it was on Best of Seattle top 10 and it's relatively close (6 miles) from my work. I was quite dissapointed in the food. The fish didn't taste fresh at all, I'm not sure if I'd be able to tell what it was if I closed my eyes and ate my meal. I had a sushi combo, the cali roll and spicy tuna roll were good, but who can mess that up?? The 8 pieces of chef's choice were not impressive. Service was fine, but there were only a few other tables. Prices are good compared to the quality of the food. Atmosphere is very plain. If you're not too picky about sushi, this would be a fine establishment.

We went on a friday night around 7:30 and were easily able to park and get a spot at the sushi bar. The chefs were friendly as was our server who was also initially attentive. We informed our waiter that we were in a bit of a hurry, then ordered sushi and an appetizer. The sushi came quickly and was quite tasty, however after reminding our server we'd also ordered the appetizer, it took so long to get it, we'd finished all of the other food as well as our large bottle of saki. It also appeared that our waiter had disappeared and at one point we were wondering if he'd left for the evening. A large chunk of time went by before we were able to hunt down A server, any server, at which point we acquired a new one. We ordered two desserts but were delivered one and the server seemed quite surprised when we pointed out the error, however the charge for the 2nd dessert had no problem finding it's way onto our bill.

I would recommend this restaurant for the ease of parking, the immediate seating, and for the food quality. The sushi really is quite good. The service is lacking significantly, so be prepared for that.

I was so sad when Yama San in Canyon Park closed its doors. We've been looking for something nearby ever since.

We visited Sushi Zen this weekend. It is in the same parking lot as Safeway in Mill Creek, at the end of a strip-mall row. The interior is clean and modern, basically black but splashed with very colorful walls to keep it upbeat. My husband noted that all the employees appeared to be young and good-looking. They were dressed in slim, all-black outfits to match the décor. Service was attentive and reasonably quick (for a packed sushi restaurant) without hovering.

At about 7:30 pm on Friday, the restaurant was busy but our party of two was seated immediately. We saw larger parties waiting in an all-too-small waiting area during our meal. This was probably because there were several tables set aside for a very large party with reservations.

The picture-filled menu contains some interesting rolls that I haven't seen before. I think a lot of them were cooked up to satisfy the American palate. After ordering, we were served a small cucumber salad and warm, lightly-salted edamame. Our beer came next, but was almost gone by the time our sushi arrived. More because my husband was thirsty than the speed of the order. One new roll we tried was called the "stuffed pumpkin." It was rice wrapped with salmon and topped with a warm, crab/scallop/spicy mayo concoction. It was so big (about the size of a baseball) it took several bites to finish - but it was really good. We'll definitely go back for more.

Our order: stuffed pumpkin, Mill Creek roll, salmon lemon roll, eel roll and a large Sapporo. Also served: cucumber salad and edamame. Total: about $30. I was full for hours.

This place is great! The sushi is fabulous - try any of the Sushi Zen Original rolls, you won't be disappointed - my favorite is the Crouching Tuna Hidden Shrimp roll. If you prefer something other than sushi, they have a large selection of entrees to please any taste. This is the one place that I reccommend to all my friends!

A co-worker recommended this place to me, so I went there the other night with some friends... and the food was soO good. I'm very picky about my sushi and dont like when it smells funky, but at Sushi Zen, the fish was fresh and presentation was beautiful. The service was perfect and the staff was friendly from the moment we stepped into the restaurant. I now consider this place my all-time favorite.

I recently had dinner at Sushi Zen on Valentines Day. Of course, it was busy because of the holiday. But the food was fabulous and the service was great. I love this place because of the coziness of the ambiance. If you are looking for fresh, authentic food with great service, this place is for you.

We were told to stop by Sushi Zen. So we gathered a group of 8 people and headed out. We waited about 15 minutes for a table. Not too bad. We ordered sushi and rolls. The crouching tuna hidden shrimp roll was superb. Also, the salmon lemon roll with citrus soy. They have many rolls here that no other places have. The sushi was so fresh. And their Toro just melted in my mouth. Excellent sushi at a reasonable price. I recommend getting there earlier as the place fills up during peak dining so you don't have to wait. This is my new sushi place.

If I don't want to leave my snohomish county address or simply don't feel like driving 20 minutes for good sushi, I come here. It's very close to my house and as a lover of sushi I appreciate that they're trying do something new, such as their tempura rolls. I have to say that I've been here on numerous occations, and everytime the servers are nice and we get amazing rolls. I adores the Las Vegas roll, a tempura roll served hot, and always get it. The over the rainbow roll is a bit too pricey for not being all that good. The only bad thing I can say is that sometimes their service is lacking, and the last time I was here I got a not so fresh salmon sashimi that left a bad taste in my mouth.

This place has amazing sushi, and I'm a very picky person when it comes to sushi. The quality of the fish is second to none. Everything I ordered tasted heavenly. If you want a real sushi experience as far as quality goes...you need to experience Sushi Zen first hand. The only thing I hated about my experience was the service. IT WAS SOOO...SLOW...THE SERVERS MOVE REALLY SLOW. My water was constantly filled but it took them forever to get the order and then took them even longer to give me the bill. Overall, I would come back again for my sushi cravings. This place definately hits the spot.

I've always had problems deciding which restaurant to go since I've been in WA last july. After tonight, there's one place that will pop up in my head everytime. I shall enjoy eating there with my family.
The california rolls, salmon and eel sushi are very fresh and good. Service excellent. Atmosphere calming. Price is extemely reasonable.
Anyway, just go and try if you enjoy Japanese food.

Best sushi in the Bothell Mill Creek Area. Dazzling presentation and fresh sushi. Had to wait a little bit because it was packed to get a table but service and the food quality made up for the wait. I can't wait till my next visit.

I've always loved Sushi Zen since day one. But now with a new Japanese owner, I love it more... Kimiko, the owner has made some huge changes starting with the menu and staff.

I was amazed with the menu and the list of original rolls at Zen. Head Chef Nick who was the head chef at Downtown Nikko's has created the most brilliant dishes I have ever seen. The sushi is so fresh. The other menu items have alot of authentic dishes that are to die for.

The service was top notch as well as the new atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place...

Keep up the excellent job!

I know what good sushi is, and this is up to par. I thought I would have to drive South to get GOOD sushi, but alas...it's in my back yard! Service at times is a little slow at the tables, but if you sit at the bar...you'll be eating as fast as you want. I'm going back tomorrow night and my mouth is watering ;).

This was the best sushi I have ever had. I was travelling on business to Everett with my wife when we found the restaurant on the phone directory. We were in the area 10 days and we ended up having dinner there 6 night. Even on the day we were leaving, we missed our flight out of Seattle and rented a car again and drove to Sushi Zen for dinner. That time we ordered enough food for 6 people but it was only for my wife and me. Excellent service and friendly staff.
