Reviews for Trading Musician

Ratings_icons used musical equipment

I have had better luck finding good quality/interesting/reasonably priced music gear at The Trading Musician than at any other music equipment shop in town that I can think of.
They especially had a nice rack of guitar pedals and things like that, and they were very friendly and helpful when I had questions/requests.

Ratings_icons Coolest Selection

Joshua S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,117

The accustic section is an absolute must see. They have all kinds of crazy instruments. Tons of mandolins and these little finger picking things. Upstairs is keyboards, noisemakers, percussions, xylophones, strange electronic music devices. They have lots of used amplifiers and some electric guitars hanging around. They also have tons of accessories. Really a candy store for musicians.

Ratings_icons all music stores are the same...

Todd B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,790

The Trading Musician has the look of a pawn shop and the customer service of a angsty/elitist music shop, which, is what you can expect. Don't try asking a simple question becasue you will get the what-do-you-mean-you-don't-know-as-much-about music-as-I-do look, which nobody likes. I will say this, when I had to sell my drumkit, they gave me the best price.

PROS: "fair" prices on trade-ins
CONS: snoooty

Ratings_icons Always something there for me..

Kevin D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,665

I have always had good experiences with this place. The people are cool yet sometimes cocky. I guess it goes with the atmosphere. Never the less, I can get almost everything I want there. They have new and used stuff(instruments, accessories, amps, drums, parts,ec.). There is a lovely acoustic room. And the Upstairs is dedicated to the drums and keyboards.
There are lots of effects(vintage and new). I think they offer guitar repair as well. This is the perfect local music store.
The hours are wierd though. It must be a musician thing.

PROS: All music needs, new and used equipment, helpful staff
CONS: grungy looking and weird store hours.

Ratings_icons The only place in Seattle I'll go to buy strings

kim r. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,379

Being a girl guitar player, I've had my share of getting ignored at the counter of a guitar shop when all I need is a pack of strings or a few new pics. This has never happened to me at Trading Musician. In fact, once when I was there shopping for mics, the mic salesman actually talked to me like I just might know what I'm talking about. It was amazing. I love these guys. And they have great deals on new & used amps!

PROS: They're not just a bunch of meathead frat guys who like to play "Watchtower" on their Fender Strats. I think they actually know about the stuff they're selling.
CONS: Good luck finding parking.
