While "rzarector2001" may think its "dirty, unhealthy, and spooky"...those of us with a taste for something hard to find, and the balls to go get it will find Mr. Liem's a fun time.
In reality, Maynard alley is actually a half alley....the block is open by a parking lot at the end. Bright and well lit in the day hours (business hours) I never had any worries or problems visiting Mr. Liem. (Not a crack head in sight)
BTW....that barrel of crickets has been there by the door feeding reptiles & such almost 30 years :o)

I think this is a great place! It is so much better than the big box fish stores which in my mind is a huge plus. The owner is incredibly nice and certainly knows how to keep fish. The fish I have bought have all been very healthy and very reasonably priced. Perhaps because the tanks aren't glaringly lit and actually have biological filtration working instead of some 5000gph pump system going people have the wrong impression. Location is a little creepy if you know your Seattle history (next door to site of Wah Mee Massacre I think) but otherwise fine. Support a small fish store I say!

yes, this man has had a good pet store in the past, but we would be talking about the past, sorry, but he is getting old, and the end is near. The store is very dirty , scary and unsafe. Please go to king's store on king street, and you will see a clean ,healthy fish store. the best thing about Liem's store is that you can smoke krack in the alley with junkies.

I've been a loyal customer of Liem's since I was 7 years old, now im my 20's. Back in the days Liem's had all sorts of random and exotic creatures that kept you in "awe" and questioning "those are legal?!". Yep, those were the old ol' days, I purchased snapping turtles, snakes, scorpions, spiders, piranhas (when they were legal) from Liem's. The owner is from Malyasia, he is fluent in several languages, and knows a lot about rare species like asian arowanas but he does lack in other lesser known species like bards, cichlids, etc. His place may be dank, dark, and dirty but his place is straight forward, if your a newb, I dont recommend his place because all the different fishes may be overwhelming In the past year Liem's use to carry birds, hamsters, snakes, turtles, and lizards but no longer, due to recent complaints of tree huggers, Liem was forced to stop the sale of all non-fish. I recommend this place to hobbist who want exotic hard to find fishes, his stuff may be kind of pricey but you will hook you up with deals if you buy enough, its also a plus if your chinese;)

Ive been a customer of Liem's since i was 7 years old, im 22 now. The fish store has been in the international district since the early 80's. Liems has always been known to carry rare & exotic species of fish and other creatures. I've seen arapaima's, african arowanas, alligator snapping turtles, rare salamanders, and chinese corn snakes, etc... Liem never knows what he gets, because every shipment of his is different. every once in a while you'll see something that will make you say "what? they actually sell these?". But this was the past. ever since recent complaints, liem was forced to stop the sale of all animals except for fish. so youll no longer see birds, turtles, frogs, reptiles, mammals, and other exotic animals.

I would recommend this place to hobbist who know their stuff. i wouldnt recommend Liems to first timers and young childern. also, it is a plus if you speak chinese:)

PROS: Lots of rare fishes you wont see elsewhere.
CONS: sometimes pricey, but you can get deals sometimes.

First of all, this store seemed to be in a very poor location. Secondly, it really seems like the staff doesn't know, or care much, about the fish I was interested in. They were very pushy, telling me that this the fish here were very healthy. Funnily, I saw many bellies up, and guppies, that are usually very active in other stores, seemed way too crowded, thus leaving very poor conditions for the fish. This place needs some actual trained staff.

This pet shop is a little shady, there isn't very much room to move inside, and many of the fish don't look very healthy. The fish tanks are very crowded and the quality of the fish is quite questionable. Also the prices are a tad high. I'm not sure if I will buy here again.

This tiny little shop in Chinatown is well-known for its inventory of rare and exotic fish and other aquatic animals and reptiles. It's a great place to look for pets you wouldn't normally be able to find elsewhere in pet shops. However, I wouldn't recommend this place to someone who is squeamish...it is full of interesting smells and could use some improvement in the cleanliness department. Great place to go if you are a rare fish hobbyist. I wouldn't recommend it if you're just looking for say, a guppy, and want a healthy one.

PROS: They have pets you might not normally see elsewhere, reasonable prices
CONS: Not very clean, sometimes fish look a little sick
