Reviews for Frye Art Museum

Ratings_icons Great art - always free!

Located in First Hill, this is a great place to spend the day. They are always free, always have great art, and have a good cafe so you can have a wonderful day in downtown Seattle for really cheap! Their art shows are rather cutting edge compared to the Seattle Art Museum. I've seen William Cumming and Mark Ryden shows here that were fabulous. I also went to a class here on William Cummings' art and life that was taught by a local author who had special access to his life. I really got an insider view of the art, which meant even more than just going to see the show. The space is really nice, and not so big that you are exhausted when you are done. Like Goldilocks, I'd say this space is not too big and not too small - it is just right.

Ratings_icons love this museum!

This musuem is located in the First Hill area of Seattle. Free admission and free parking make it a great attraction for downtown visitors. It has a very nice gallery of 19th century European and American paintings. I also enjoy their frequent exhibitions on contemporary painters and photographers. Adjacent cafe has a good and creative menu with low price (relatively).

PROS: free admission and parking, nice cafe menu

Ratings_icons Wonderful place to visit!

This is one of Seattles free museums. It is well worth the visit. It is very old and has some beautiful pieces on permanent display, then lots of exhibits that are constantly changing.

Ratings_icons Been to the SAM and are looking for something different?

Try the Charles and Emma Frye Art Museum. Loads of European classic art with some really nice water color paintings. It is a nice bargain too. Do not expect a fancy giftshop seeling a Mona Lisa pencil holder this place is pure art and none of the fancy razzle dazzle of the SAM.

Ratings_icons Frye Art Museum

Located in First Hill, the Frye displays both classic & modern art. Being a perfectly-sized museum--not too big, not too small-- that incorporates an array of visual art, it draws a diverse crowd and should be able to appeal to every member of the family. Best of all, it's FREE.

The Frye is great. It's located on Capital Hill, but has a parking lot attached, and is housed in a beautiful building that was remodelled recently. The Frye Cafe serves us delicious food, and since the founders left the museum an endowment, entrance to the museum is free. They display a great selection of realist art, and have continual moving exhibits that challenge and intrigue the art-lover. The Frye is quite a Seattle treasure.
