You cannot beat Portage Bay for breakfast. The staff is always friendly, without "hovering" and the food is great. Of course the best part about Portage Bay is the pancake bar. They bring you a stack of pancakes and you add your own toppings - berries, fresh whipped cream, etc. It is the perfect way to start a weekend morning!

The Portage Bay Cafe is absolutely the best place to eat breakfast! The Pancake Breakfast Bar is amazinly delicious - serving pancakes with ALL the great choice toppings - fresh fruits, whip creme, butter and flavored syrups! On weekends, there can be a long wait but it's all worth it!

I Was just walking past Portage Bay today after lunch and was drawn in. Laughed and enjoyed so much in the store. From the duct tape wallets to the Ugly Dolls to the cool, fresh stickers they have. This must have been what Fireworks was like before they went upscale and multi-store.
As I said, one big difference is they aren't filled with $500 mirrors and $1,000 tables. This is just fun, fun, fun. Lots of quality goods and gifts, and the kind of thing you won't find at every other store.
If you're in Fremont, and having a fun browsing day, wander across the street to it.

When I was in school, a friend of mine took me to Portage Bay to get the buffet. I am not into buffets, so I almost didn't get it until I saw it. The restaurant will sell you a plate of pancakes, french toast or waffles and then you take your food to the buffet, which is loaded with berries of all sorts, syrup, whipped cream, honey, and other delicacies! I was floored at the berries they were so good!
