I've been here twice and loved everything I've tried. I had their french toast w/orange marmalade and it was the best french toast i've had in seattle! They also have great bloody marys and other rum concoctions. I also had their lobster scramble and have tried their salmon scramble - both great. in fact, my friend gets the salmon scramble every time. one time i had good service, the other time i had slow, not-so-great service. Looking forward to going back again.

We dined at this establishment tonight due to the fact
that it was promoting " A tour of Chile"
The pisco sours were good and my wife had a
Ceviche Mixto (note to menu person at C.K., it's ceviche
not cebiche) that she enjoyed.
I ordered the empanada filled with braised pork.
In Chile you typically have an empanada de horno which
is baked and filled with meat/hard boiled egg/olive and maybe onions, or the empanada de queso, which is filled with cheese and deep-fried.
This item was neither. The pastry tasted like it was semi-cooked cornmeal. Not good.
Ambience was ok and service was the same.

I frequently eat lunch here during the week. The BLT and the Coastal Burger deliver large portions of high-quality ingredients. Service during the week is fast and professional. The clientele is well-healed. ...........................................................................................................

Too many restaurants are under-financed family-run holes-in-the-wall. Coastal Kitchen is the relatively rare example of a professionally-run, well-financed restaurant -- large seating capacity (essential to profitability) & managed for the long term. .......................................................................................................

Personally, I avoid the long lines, poor service and chaos of weekend brunches. Also, I avoid the "featured region" menu, because the quantity & recipe are huge unknowns.

Awful coq au vin- I felt ripped off. I thought the service was good. I didn't bother my server with details, just emailed them. No response. I guess they don't care.

I'm picky and I like this one far better than any of the other chow foods restaurants. When I go there, I go for one thing: Seafood. I often stick to the regulars such as "Simply Grilled Fish" (you have daily choices).
It's pricey, but it's seafood and it's good. Portions are appropriately sized. Never too much. Sometimes leaves you wanting more, but of course that's why they sell desert and more wine.

Seasonings are used appropriately allowing for the subtelties of the meat to come out. Every now and then they have an awesome seasonal offering that makes my year, but usually it's just the grilled fish that I want.

That said: I would avoid Ivars, Anthony's, and The really expensive one in west seattle (forget the name).
This place is better.

Went here for brunch on Sunday with two friends before going to the theater. None of us had been here before and went based on the reviews on CitySearch. Big disappointment. Went early as advised, but still had to wait (not too long, only 30 min). The service was fine, but the food was less than impressive for the prices. About the only thing I would recommend was the coffeecake. Two of us had Bloody Marys and they were terrable. The three of us had different types of scrambles (smoked Salmon, Skagit Valley with ham and the daily special with cherizo. Very small portions and nothing special. We all agreed we should have gone to the Portage Bay Cafe instead.

I should have walked away as soon as we noticed the mass of flies in the kitchen area. But no I still gave it a shot. After being served in food crusted dishes and having floaters in the ice water, we proceeded to have the worst meal. The pasta was over cooked and the salad was wilted. And on top of that the bill only added insult to injury.

I live in the neighborhood, but I am usually hesitant to go to the Coastal Kitchen because I find the food so inconsistent. Sometimes they are on the mark and the entree is well-prepared and full of interesting flavors. Other times the food is bland or overcooked. And the wait on weekends for breakfast is not worth it.

I came here on a trip to Seattle. It had a very good breakfast menu with interesting dishes and great seafood. I ordered crab cakes and eggs, which had real crab in it. I would definitely come back here if I ever visit Seattle again!

I went to Coastal Kitchen with some girlfriends for lunch and thought that their menu was pretty cool. They have special items on their menu that they choose by country to showcase that cuisine and I really liked that idea. When I was there, they did Jamaica, and the restaurant was decorated accordingly. The ambiance was great, we didn't wait long although it was pretty busy, and our server was nice. I wasn't very impressed with the food. I had fish & chips and it was pretty dry or perhaps just quite overcooked. The real problem was that when we tried to pay our bill, it took 20 minutes from the time they took the card until they came back to us. Apparently their machine was having a problem, but we had no way of knowing that- they just disappeared leaving us wondering what was going on. When they finally returned, we voiced our concerns and didn't even really get an apology from the server, who explained the machine's malfunction to us. I thought it was very poor customer service to make us wait so long with no explanation until the end, no apology, and not even a small compensation like taking off the price of our drinks or something along those lines. I don't think I'll be back.

Three of us had the pleasure of a Sunday Brunch on the last week of Siciliy. We had the Lobster Scramble special, Mango pancakes, Gingerbread Waffles, and more. Everything was fantastic. Service was great. Seating took about 15 mins. Grab a quick coffee next door while you wait. We will definately be going back.

The service was nothing like their other establishments, it was rude,
condescending and short. But still, we understand that some nights are
better than others and it could have been a bad night for our server.

The food is the main issue here. We ordered the ceviche and the
split the two-person meal that included Pork, Marlin, Corn, Jasmine rice,
Black beans and a tuna salad. The Ceviche was fantastic, well portioned
and all around good.
The main issue we had was with the two-person meal we ate. The serving
was so small, I thought we accidentally got a 1 person serving. Our marlin
steak was roughly one bite each. The tuna salad was so incredibly
over-cooked, it was inedible. The pork was good, but again, such a small
portion that we barely got any. The meal focused around the beans and rice,
which were obliviously there for filler.
We left the Coastal Kitchen, very hungry and 80.00 poorer. Our next stop
was to go get something to eat.

this is the second time that I have gone to coastal kitchen, and left disappointed by the food quality. i get sucked in by the hype and ambience, but always leave feeling like something is missing. maybe the owners need to spend less time hyping all of their restaurants and more time on delivering a quality product. i ordered the chipolte shrimp salad, which sounded great on the menu. what came to me was five small over-glazed shrimp, mixed greens doused in a very sour dressing, a scoop of canned corn, and two tostada shells stuck in for good measure. i ordered salsa for the shells and even that was tasteless. i snuck a few french fries off a friend?s plate, which were good, as was the service. but still I left there fuming about paying $14+ for such an unfulfilling lunch.

This is a great place to go with friends for dinner. Its very lively. So lively in fact that you may find yourself in a rather long wait to get seated.

Overall this place has amazing food and works good for kids.

I especially love their brunch. They do change their menu frequently and also frequently make changes in decor to the restaurant.

I eat here at least once a month. I would make it more if it werent just SO busy.

Coastal Kitchen is a great bistro with a great menu and an additional rotating menu featuring foods from various regions around the world. Their burger is great. For dinner try the pork chop and then for blunch (their meal they serve from morning until 3pm) try their delicious hazelnut cinnamon pancakes!

With an ever-changing menu, Coastal Kitchen never fails to surprise with new regional dishes. Every few months, the restaurant chooses a new region to build their menu around. Warning to vegetarians: there is usually only one veggie entree option. Brunch, however, is a different story. The Goat Cheese Rumble is the best!

PROS: Delicious food offerings
CONS: Very crowded for weekend brunch.

I have been here many times, and have never been disappointed. My parents, who live out of town, absolutely love this place when they come to visit. I highly recommend it for breakfast or brunch. The selections are always unique and served in generous portions. There is something for everyone, regardless of taste - from the traditional to the exotic. All around helpful and attentive wait staff. The only downside is the long wait if you come for a breakfast/brunch on a weekend morning.

I love this restaurant, particularly for brunch. The servings are huge and the creations are daring and full of flavor. Additionally the place has a very down home feel and is friendly to kids, giving it a sort of young hip familial atmosphere. And the wait staff are super accommodating (even to a Mom, like me, with a squirmy 1 year old).

The menu changes every three months (not the entire menu, just featured items) to present a cuisine from a different coastal city. Along with the menu change, the decor changes.

Creative, warm and fun. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's become one of my favorite weekend haunts.

I've been to the Coastal Kitchen about a dozen times for both breakfast and dinner, and I've always been pretty happy.

The food is usually great, with the exception of one time (my eggs were cold), and sometimes I notice that the portions are smaller than expected. I guess I would consider this casual to fine dining. They have different food themes, where they rotate a menu of cuisines from a particular country, which I think is really creative and yummy.

I definately recommend this place for dinner, but watch out for the weekend breakfast crowd.

PROS: Tasty food, and fast good service.
CONS: Pricey, and gets crowded, especially during weekend brunch time.

This is my friend Dina's favorite place to have a business lunch on 15th, and I always heartily concur. The menu is nice, the food is always good, and the service is alarmingly professional for Capitol Hill.

Their breakfast dishes are especially yummy, and for lunch i am apt to have a chicken breast on a salad. They somehow manage to snazz up even plain dishes like that with touches like pine nuts, that make it special.

The art is always cool there too, and when the sun is out, there is a patio out back. Just don't take MY table :-)

The food at Coastal Kitchen as never been as good as everyone I know gives it credit for. It's good, don't get me wrong, but not amazing. I've been there for lunch and for breakfast, both of which are good and reasonably priced. What I would like to do is try dinner there, as the ultimate test of the restaurant's abilities! It's a nice place, though. Go and try it for yourself.

Wow, this place is amazing. I love that they select a different region every few months and work up a menu to showcase it. My favorite was Bordeaux, but you never know where you will be eating when you go! Except that it will be a place that is on a "coast" and it will be delicious. They also decorate to match. And there is a basic menu as well so there are some things you can always count on. Oh, and be sure to check out the bathroom where they play music and such in whatever language is appropriate!

There are plenty of reasons to tool around the 15th neighborhood on the top of Capital Hill, and Coastal Kitchen is one of them. With a constantly evolving menu, Coastal Kitchen tours a different coastal region every few months, producing mouthwateringspecialties from Bordeaux, or Brazil, or Morocco. The drink menu also rotates appropriately, and the decor is fun and inspirational in it's constant flux. (They also provide a standard menu for the culinary-cautious diner.)

my husband and i had a lovely brunch there last saturday. the food was yummy. the best part was the service. the waitress was so attentive. she happily produced a spot of steamed milk for my coffee, which servers at more high-end establishments tend to be bothered by. she even went to the trouble of finding out whether the sausages are made of pork or beef (which i cannot eat for religious reasons). and i never saw the bottom of my coffee cup. these folks know how to do brunch. what a wonderful way to spend a saturday afternoon.

This makes a great lunch or brunch hangout because they update their menu with new themes on a consistant basis. My favorite item on their regular menu is the heuvos rancheros - the best in the city as far as I am concerned. I love the black beans and fresh salsa they use in this. Although, you do need to add hot sauce when it arrives to "kick it up a notch".

Costal Kitchen is fabulous! I go for breakfast on a regular basis (best in Seattle) and have dinner there at least four times a year (each time they rotate their menu). The food is very tasty and the service is most attentive. My favorite aspect of dining their is the art! They change it quarterly with the menu. And the language lessons in the restroom are to die for! As a rule Capitol Hill doesn't have that much to offer, Coastal Kitchen is undoubtedly the exception! Get on their mailing list and check them out!

The Jamaican menu was tasty, but not authentic. I have it on good authority that the corn they served me was soaken in sugar water before it was grilled. Gross!! Also, while the waiter was attentive, I found him to be really patronizing in attempting to make cutsie conversation while we were dining. Just leave us alone and let us enjoy each other's company.

The food here is fantastic. I mean fantastic. My husband had a religious experience with his catfish, and the fried oysters were amazing. The hushpuppies and other fritters were light and wonderful, the key lime pie was killer.... I'll be back very soon. The long wait was the only drawback, and a glass of wine in the bar soothed that considerably. I do wish the oysters were a main dish, not an appetizer, but hey, with a split appetizer and dessert it was plenty.

After waiting for almost 25 min last friday night, I was sat at a table by the front door. I was freezing!! When we asked the host if we could move, instead of being snotty about it she bussed a table in the back and moved us right over. The kicker is she offered to move a space heater over to the table to warm up. I was floored!! The food was pretty good (especially the pork tenderloin), but what made it for me was the exceptional service we received.

The food was ok, but not good enough to make up for the terrible service i experienced.

It is definitely not the only show in town

It's either really good or really bad...and for the price you better hope that it's really good!! The breakfast is consistently excellent...I recommend the salmon scramble or the french occupation toast...the dinner is more hit or miss...I had salmon that tasted like it was in the freezer for too long...however there have been other nights when it is magnificent...

We just experienced Coastal Kitchen's latest featured region, Oaxaca. I was blown away by the decor! It looks better than ever with colored flags streaming everywhere, the art jumping out at you (especially the Day of the Dead people). We got a great deck table and started out with the Rita Bonita. It's a margarita with fresh raspberries. We had the tamales (excellent) and the carne asada with mole (tasty). No room this time for dessert, but will be back for the cinnamon ice cream! They were very busy, but good, polite service.

At first glance, it looks like a 50's diner in the middle of Capitol Hill. Fine for some, but we like more than plain old American food. We were delighted to see all of the asian-inspired art on the walls, and the Vietnamese menu in the window. When we were given the choice of going to an outside deck that was not advertised, we jumped at the chance. It is beautifully decorated with flower boxes, bamboo, and is pleasantly private. The sunny weather helped, of course. The food was gourmet at decent prices, but I must say that the bloody marys were TOO spicy.

Although we only experienced the brunch deck atmosphere, we are looking forward to the Vietnamese torch-lit deck experience as well!

I love how Coastal Kitchen highlights a regional or international cuisine every month, however, I always go for breakfast. This is a popular brunch spot, so be warned. The wait can be long during peak times.

Another favorite of mine for breakfast or brunch. The place is lovely, with endless windows filling the space with natural light. The booths are perfect for settling into with friends or family on a Sunday morning.
