I continue to be impressed by this fine drop-in pre school for ages 2-6. Maximum stay is 4 hours and they have a great schedule and very experienced teachers. Secure access in the basement of a church with great facilities. Lunches available for purchase, or pack your own. 9-4pm in the school year and 9-2pm in the summer. Morning is busier than afternoons. They provide snacks and have a regular pre-school curriculum that rotates through. My kids love it and I think they are getting great socialization and excellent care. Sometimes they hate to leave. The big gross motor room they have is fabulous, and there is also outdoor play time in the afternoon, plus show-and-tell, music time, art time, etc. A fabulous community resource with wonderful teachers. Very affordable too at $7 per hour per child. Punchcards give you small discounts and ability to reserve a spot in advance, although it only fills up a few days per year when schools close but camps haven't opened yet.

Pros: secure access, great curriculum, great teachers, good value

Cons: closes at 2pm in the summer, not open weekends

I've been sending my 2yr old to Trettin since January and cannot praise the staff and their excellent program enough. This preschool is a pay as you use ($7/hr), come and go as you want (Mon-Fri/9am-4pm/max of 4hrs/day)arrangement which takes into account parents' fluctuating schedules, needs and budgets. Meanwhile the kids get an awesome opportunity to play and learn with kids their age. Most of value to me as a stay-at-home mum, my daughter learns social skills in a group setting, thoughtfully and lovingly taught by a great team. Staff have many years of experience, knowledge and dedication teaching kids. Open since 1968 as a non-profit, the team at Trettin know what they're doing and is providing this community an invaluable service parents and kids in other communities can only envy and wish they had.

PROS: Flexible, Budget-friendly, Experienced and the Kids Love It!
CONS: Wish they were open Saturdays and Sundays too!

This is an affordable and well-oiled maching operating in the University District. Maximum 4 hours stay for children per day. There is a daily schedule so be sure to check when large motor time and/or outdoor time is. Kids won't want to miss that. Bring a lunch or buy a lunch. Themed weeks and months that rotate through. Some older children may tire of the routine and younger children but perfect for 2-4 year olds needing a little time to socialize. Moms can meet a friend for lunch or get their hair cut! Whew! Get a punch card for small discount.
