As serious sports viewers, my wife and I enjoy going to the Cocoanut Grove. They have a cornucopia of high-definition satellite-powered TVs throughout the bar. Having just moved from Texas (where people live and breathe football), it's difficult to find a place that will show Texas Longhorn and Dallas Cowboy games. However, the Cocoanut Grove happily accommodates our needs. The digs are "true sports bar" appropriate if sports is what you're there for. If you're looking for frilly drinks, club music, and one-night stands, then this is not the place for you. This is a true neighborhood bar, which is safe and friendly to all who enter (even "yuppies" like my wife and me). The chili rocks, the chili cheese dogs are out of this world, the fire strips are grilled, and the beer is always ice cold. What more could you ask for?

The Cocoanut Grove is the BEST sports bar in town. It's awesome; it's like you're at your rich uncle's house in 1987 and his basement is all finished with carpet and a TV and a wet bar--so much better than your basement that just has all your mom and dad's junk in it. Except in this pimped out basement you get to drink and watch whatever you want because there are like 30 TVs. And your older cousin isn't punching you. It's a very comfortable place to watch a game. Last year I went to watch the Packers play with a friend who wanted to watch the Colts, and not only did we get to watch both those games, we also got to watch a Vikings game AT THE SAME TIME, and all the TVs were right next to each other, and stupid Brett Favre totally screwed up and the Vikings lost and it was awesome! Plus, you could actually hear audio on one of the games, which was really exceptional for a bar, I think. People were dedicated to watching the game as opposed to being obnoxious. The food is really not good, but as long you aren't expecting much, you'll be okay. Just go in expecting to eat crappy fried food, and then you'll be a-okay. Also, I'm not sure what that other reviewer was talking about with it being full of "older people," as though "older people" are somehow intimidating and offensive. My wife and I have been here several times and have never encountered any "not so safe" people, and we are in our mid-twenties and come from a solidly middle-class background, so we'd probably scare easily. Then again, we're from Wisconsin, and therefore we generally like people.

Fun local hangout. Full bar plus beer. Pool tables. Good drink prices. Can get a little wild on the weekends, but still a fun stop-in.

I would not recommend this place if you are wanting to have a drink or go to a "normal bar". It is located in a not so safe part of town and the customers are mostly older men and women that are probably regulars. They have an array of pull tabs and a decent number of pool tables, but it seems dirty to me. They are cheap, and they have t.v's so if you are a guy wanting to watch a game - this might be the place for you.
