I've been eating here since I was a teenager and it has changed a lot over the years. It even got to the point where I just wrote it off. The other day I went in with some friends and I was pretty surprised. They've restored it to it's original size after tearing down a wall that I guess was put up in the seventies. It completely changes the look and atmosphere for the better. The food, which always seemed to me to be hit and miss, has also changed for the better. There were four of us and we all liked what we ordered. In fact, we liked it so much that day we went back later in the week at night and there was music and people were dancing This place has been in Olympia for a long time so I'm glad to see whoever is in charge seems to know what they are doing. Kudos.

The owners of the Urban Onion are stripping the layers of paint and remodels to reveal the grand lady she once was. Come on in and check out the new look.

The current menu bows it's head to the classic Urban Onion, with the famous Lemon Tahini dressing and Herb and Onion Bread. The owners have kicked it up a notch by adding some very creative and inspiring dishes. If you haven't been to the Urban Onion in a while, then you haven't been to the Urban Onion. Give it a try, you won't be dissappointed.

Check out the new Happy Hour. It is Monday - Friday from 3pm to 6 pm. Great food at better prices!!!

Ordered "prawns" got medium shrimp. Mike states that they only have prawns no shrimp in restaurant, but there in print is "shrimp" on menu. Trying to get a resolution for a week and finally got lectured about seafood. I know the difference between a prawn and a shrimp. He was not interested in resolving customer complaint. They had no problem overloading the dish wish cheap white pasta and mushrooms but it was a treasure hunt to find any smoked salmon or "shrimp/prawns." Husband's fries were not enough to fill him up. My salad was maybe 4 bites. There are way to many better restaurants to choose from. Might I suggest Indian Cuisine, Mekong Thai, Red Lobster etc. If it wasn't for the political folks eating on the states tab, you would most certainly be out of business.

Pros: nothing

Cons: food is skimpy and menu borders on false advertising

Urban Onion used to be my favorite restaurant. I'd go there about once a week. Last time I went in they had changed the menu and taken off everything that I loved about them. My favorite thing was the turkey pesto melt and it's off the menu. I guess it's fine if you want a greasy mediocre burger or an overpriced steak now. But they stripped away everything that made it special. I wont go back unless they change it back to how it used to be.

We have been going to the Urban Onion for 9 years for breakfast. Initially the diverse menu of smoked salmon omelettes and urban onion bread attracted us. The service has never been great, but the food outweighed that.

We went on Fathers Day and were highly disappointed in the abbreviated menu, which did not have the great options we were looking for. The ham and cheese omlette was not great, biscuits were stale for the biscuits and gravy and service was exceptionally bad. No refills on coffee until asked and the order for my son was wrong, which she indicated she would fix on the ticket, but didn't until asked. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

The Onion would be a 5 star if we were looking at atmosphere, food, and prices. Their for is excellent with some of the best burgers around. The drinks are made well and reasonable priced. The service on the other hand sucks. We usually sit in the bar and it takes forever to get service. While we could stay and hang out, we usually go down the street for drinks, because the service is better. Add the limited seating and the horrible parking and it turns this 5 star to a three star.

The Urban Onion is one of Olympia's most well known and longest serving restaurants. It is a good place for both breakfast and lunch. It serves a busy weekday political crowd, as it is near the state capital. We caught the Urban Onion after a busy weekend crowd had gone through, and I was not overly impressed by the pace of service or the food. I had a breakfast omelet and it was o.k.. The pie we had for desert was excellent. There is a nice bookstore adjacent. Street parking is available, but might be difficult to find during the week.

The most unprofessional management and service I've dealt with in my years of dining. Just to touch on the inconvenience I dealt with, I ordered a burger and asked for medium rare; I got a charred, juiceless hunk of jerky. The waitress, being unprofessional and very unsympathetic, said I could have $1 off. Once I was finally awarded and audience with the manager, I persisted that I should not have to pay for the burger, he then threatened to call the police!! Whoa!

The food and coffee smell delicious from the moment you walk in. The Urban Onion has long been a favorite eatery of mine and I am delighted to see it posted on the web. My favorites are The Urban Onion Special and Mexican Chicken. My husband likes the vareity of vegetarian specials and the desserts.
