I am a long time boat owner. This is the second season I have used Camano Marine to Tune-Up my boat. Both of my experiences were very positve. The work was done right, the personel was helpful and friendly and the price ( although no body like to pay service bills) were fair. I have become a loyal customer.

My prop was slipping a bit at increased speeds and I am a new boat owner and don't know a whole lot. I did research online and everything was pointing to stripped gears. I attempted to drop the lower unit but quickly got in over my head. I called Camano Marine on a Saturday and told them what was going on and they told me to bring it in for an estimate which they could give me in an hour. When I got there, the owner??s wife checked me in and I re-explained the situation and she wrote down that I was in for a tune up. I told her I may be interested in the $130 tune up after I figured out what else was wrong and how much that was going to cost. I told her the motor was already partially disassembled and to call me if they needed me to do anything. I also told her I did not need the quote in a hour, call me "next week" with a quote.

I got a call middle of the next week from the owners wife telling me the boat was ready to be picked up. Confused, I asked what happened and what the charge was. She told me $417.00 for all the work which included a new prop and the $130.00 tune up. Honestly, I was a bit stunned and simply told her I would talk with my wife and call back. About 20 minutes later, I called and asked for the owner (I believe Bruce). I told him I needed to work something out with him and he immediately got defense and would not understand my issue. He pulled the work order and acknowledged why it was confusing and read me the part where I just wanted a quote and was MAYBE interested in a tune up. After a long conversation (I will save you the smug details) of him lecturing me on the quality of their work, that I did not/ could not have fixed it myself and the fact that he just spent $6,000 fixing his wife??s car without getting a quote (which I guess made it ok to do it to his customers?), he gave me 3 options. I could pay him in full and get the boat, not pay him and he would hold my boat until I could pay them in full or he would disassemble the motor, put old grease in, old spark plugs, and basically return exactly to the condition it was in and I could come pick it up at no charge. I told him the last option did not seem to make much sense and I would rather work something out on the price. I offered to pay him $200 for the parts and labor since that is what I could afford at the time. This offer was not acceptable and he re-iterated my 3 options. I said I would have to wait to payday and he accepted and made it a point that it needed to be picked up quickly as he did not want it sitting in his yard.

Last week, I went to pick up my boat, paid my $417.00 and both owner and his wife failed to even acknowledge me while another employee took care of the paperwork. I asked for a copy of the work order that gave my approval to do any of this and of course, it could not be found.

I can??t predict the future but I imagine the $400 in revenue he got for my work will never make up for the lost future sales from me and everyone that has heard this story.

Having owned a variety of boats over the last 40+ years I've had a lot of experience with various marine service centers and unfortunately most of those experiences have been bad. Although I was cautious and a bit skeptical I took my boat in for service at Camano Marine and discovered they are not only friendly and knowledgeable, but exceeded my expectations in the work they performed. I would highly recommend them.
