I went skiing at 49 Degrees North and was apalled at the experience I had. The first run of the day, a friend of mine and I headed to the backside of the mountain where the more difficult skiing was. Halfway up the slope the chairlift came to a screeching hault and dropped a good ten feet as we were a good 60 feet up in the air. We sat there for an hour only to find out that the chairlift derailed and they weren't going to be able to fix it. Two ski patrol guys came by and yelled that I was going to be the "guinea pig" to go. After some arguing, they threw up a rope with a baseball on the end up it. After about the 20th time of throwing it up and trying to get it over the ski lift wire, they pulled it down and pulled up the other side of the rope with a piece of wood about 12 inches long and 3 inches wide attached to it. They made me sit on it, with no restraints, and swing down on it in all my gear and skiis attached. I feared for my life! Well, we did get down, but we had to hike a good mile on a black diamond, carrying all of our gear with no help in waste high powder in some places. It was brutal! In all, it took a good 3 hours out of our day. We made it back to the lodge and decided to go on another run. About 45 seconds into the run, my friend went over a jump and obviously broke his arm very badly in 3 places. He needed serious help and another friend skied to the bottom to get the ski patrol. It took them forever to get up there and their help was less than professional to say the least. I asked for our money back when we got to the bottom of the mountain and they didn't offer any of it to us. It was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent! I would not recommend that place at all!

49 Degrees is perhaps the most overlooked
great ski area in Washington state and
in Northern Idaho. Its got beautiful
scenery and great cross country trails.
The staff is very friendly.

This is a good local ski hill. Although I don't do much downhill skiing anymore, I have still had a good time coming here for the cross-country ski trails that go up around the East Basin area. It's even a good place to come in the summer for mountain biking as there are good roads and trails on the mountain, and they sometimes host mountain bike races and group rides in the summer and fall.
