This is a great place to go after you roll out of bed, put on your sweats, comb your hair and stagger out the door. You can sit in a little nook and actually peruse books while you eat. Good breakfast fare, including tasty egg dishes, breakfast pastries, pancakes, etc.

My husband and I had dinner at the Library Cafe last Friday night. What a darling place to eat, and a nice atmosphere. I was told it is now under new ownership. We had dinner. WHAT A DINNER! It beat EVERY PLACE I've been in the Seattle area. And so VERY affordable! I had the Statler Chicken, and it was so good. Presentation of the food was awesome as well. Desert? Heavenly. It was so good. New owners make you feel welcome, and are really great folks! Being real estate agents, we look for places to take our clients, and recommend places to them. This place just topped the top of our list. They have by far became our favorite place to eat! Thank you Library Cafe for such a wonderful Friday evening at little cost!

Ok, so I made this post a few weeks ago and I was more than a lil harsh to the old owners. I wont give an excuse, it just wasn't right. So I'll amend the previous post I made. For a restaurant that had absentee owners, and from owners who didn't really know the restaurant business very well, they had a great idea. I think they had a good start on what coulda been a great idea. Though I do have to admit to absolutely adoring what the new owners have done. Its less cluttered, things are moved around a bit, and otherwise all they did was expand on what was already there. They've done some simple things like bringing in a certified chef from out of state and the food went from done as quickly as possible to having just a bit more care put into each plate. The service has been worked on too, even with the old staff, they're attentive, they actually Smile, and they are always right there when you need them. To make it even better I went to their opening for dinners last night? They have a new server running the night time shift for the time being and she's all smiles and giggles, a pleasant breath of air after a long day. The dim lighting is perfect for a quiet night of knowing you're going to be served. I'd Highly suggest it!

I visited the Library Cafe recently for lunch with family from out of town. I ordered the tuna melt with clam chowder. The best tuna melt I've had in years, not the overly-mayonaissed runny stuff you get at most places. Chunky and delicious on fantasticly tangy sourdough. The chowder was chunky as well, with lots of juicy clams! My companions enjoyed their sandwiches as well. The atmosphere is cute, the fireplaces are just the right touch for a damp Seattle afternoon. And let's not forget the waitstaff, our server was busy decorating for Valentine's day but dropped what she was doing and was at tableside before we had a chance to summon her. Way to keep an eye out!

Being a few blocks from our house, this is where I take all my business lunches as well as eat regularly on the weekends... The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and all the books on the wall make for excellent decor. (We have purchased many of our books and artworks here.) The Library Cafe feels like an extension of our home, and the waitstaff are like family to us.

The food is always tasty, with both breakfast and lunches available.

I was so impressed with the warmth and hospitality of this small cafe that I had to comment. I had the biscuits and gravy and while not traditionaly a gormet entre it was a delight on this cold rainy morning. The fire place and the people made me feel at home without having to do the dishes. I wish I could stumble on a place like this more often.

Had breakfast this morning. Waitress was disinterested and rude. When asked if there was a choice of bread for toast, she answered "yes." Then when asked if we could have rye, we were told that that was actually a special bread, only for a certain sandwich, but ok, I guess it would be ok. Hmmmm.

Service was appalling but the food was was even worse. Sausage, while the largest patty I've ever seen, was chewy. Gravy on biscuits was overloaded with cumin and tasted like bad curry, tofu breakfast was awful.

There was a discrepancy on the bill. I had asked if sausage could be subsituted for eggs, told yes but they'd charge 1.50. Fine with me. Then, the bill came and I was charged both 1.50 for the substitution plus 3.50 for the sausage. I complained, they protested, then said they'd take off the subsitution fee, I said take off the sausage fee. They agreed, then while running my card, the waitress turns to me and says "you don't have to come back, you know." I won't, told her so, and whatever was left of a tip coming was immediately erase.

I've heard nice things about this place but it was a terrible experience.

As the lines backup at the more popular breakfast places, it's great to know that North Seattle is not missing endless options in breakfast and lunch places. The Library Cafe has been on my list of places to try and they did not disappoint.

They have a great range of options in breakfast and it looked like lunch is served after 11am . The space itself is neat, spacious and well lit. One table is inside the fireplace, which very cool. There is an espresso machine for that jolt Seattle restaurant patrons look for.

The food was tasty, the right temperature and served quickly. The service was marvelous, with attentive service from begging to end. My friends and I really enjoyed the Library Cafe.

PROS: Tasty; Cool Space; Great Service.

This cozy little place on 85th has only recently started serving dinner thursday - saturday, and I really hope they continue! The waiter Andy is funny, warm, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the food and wine. I had the coq au vin with the best mushroom/ wine sauce I've ever had! The bread, which is baked locally is great, and if you ask nicely Andy will wrap up a half loaf for you to take home with whatever is left of your generously sized meal.
I recently had a dinner party there with a party of 8 and everyone enjoyed their meal
Go to keep it open, and I bet you'll be back!

I love the Library Cafe. My wife and I have been there only a couple times, but each time it has been great. While the menu is quite limited, what they do, the do well. They have some of the best omelets around and the coffee (La Vazza) is outstanding! The prices are no more or less than any other diner in town and the amosphere is always relaxing.

It's not a big place, so if you have a large group, you might consider calling ahead to see if they can accomodate you.

Don't go here expecting to get a real plate of corned beef hash...everything has been made to be a little too "fancy" and loses a lot in translation.
