I have been going to Joey's phenomenal private hair studio for years and could not be happier with the service he provides. I can rest assured that Joey will always make my hair look amazing! Trusting my hair to anyone else would be unimaginable.

OK, if you're like me and have read all the glowing reviews for Hair by Joey plastered all over the web, you might be taking a tiny cynical moment to wonder if they all could possibly be real.... and after my first visit, I am writing my first review on Yelp to assure you that yes, the guy is absolutely for real. Joey is some kind of talent.

The odds were against us: I was late for my first visit, I don't speak hair, and my hair has a freaky wave pattern that causes my husband to give me long mystified looks after all the disappointing cuts I've received from almost every stylist I've tried over the years (He'll say, "Um, did you tell them about that place on your head where your hair does that weird thing? Because it's still there.) Plus I'm middle-aged with prematurely all-white hair and live in dread of getting the scary old-lady cut.

Joey pulled it off in spades. He made me feel like we had all the time in the world. He asked me about my hair routine and took me seriously when I said I pretty much put my head upside down and blast it with a blow dryer. He didn't laugh (at least out loud) when I described the best cut I'd ever gotten as "sort of a rock star cut". Then he translated it all back for me and he'd completely gotten it--turns out I like funky, tousled, wispy, chunky. With bangs.

I walked out of there with the best, funkiest, coolest haircut I've ever had. A lot of people have said that Joey has a way of matching the hair to the person and I agree--he captured just how I wanted to look and feel. And the cut is completely easy to manage, my hair just falls into place and looks great. Unbelievable but true. Give Joey a try; odds are you'll love him!

After living in Seattle for over 8 yrs and never seeing the same stylist more than twice, I'm glad to say I'll be seeing Joey for my third appointment this week! Joey was able to give me a great haircut that matches my lifestyle and flatters my features. In the past, I wore my hair in a ponytail since it took too long to style. Now I wear my hair down everyday, spend minimal effort getting ready in the mornings and get all too many compliments :) Thanks Joey!

I moved to United states about an year ago and was very reluctant to get my hair styled ..Being an Asian , I have long thick hair and could not trust any hairdresser to understand what I wanted
Thank God!! I trusted the reviews for Joey on citysearch and tried him..
He understands Hair, gave a relaxing hair massage, Perfect sophisticated cut followed by excellent haircare tips...I should have written this review just after getting my hair done..
I feel so beautiful now and My husband is so impressed about Joey's work that we both got an appointment for ourselves for the next visit..
I would definetely try different hair styles and Highlights henceforth...
Also, I found it affordable for such a great work on hair.

I love, love, love my hair. Right after leaving the studio I sat in my car and took a picture with my phone to send to my best friend. Her comment? ?Oh my GOSH! Its like he knew you and knew exactly what your hair should look like!? I had to play hockey that night and all the girls in the locker room ooh?d and aah?d over the color. (I waited until absolutely the last minute before getting on the ice to put my helmet on too! ) The cut is fantastic and the color is absolutely perfect, so perfect, in fact, that people that don?t see me all the time say something like, ?You look great!? But they aren?t entirely sure what is making me look so different. I really just look like I have the cut and color that I should have! Thanks again. It?s a long haul over from Wenatchee, but you can bet I?ll be making it again!

I've lived in Seattle for over 2 years and have tried many, many different places (small ones, large chains and everything in between). This is the first place that I loved the experience while I was there and I loved the result when I left. It is a private salon so you are the only one there to get your hair done. Joey let me know that this was my experience, and if I preferred to chat, he is there for that, or if I prefer to relax and read, that's great too. I LOVED this because sometimes I love talking to the stylists but other times I just want to relax, read and not feel pressured to answer mindless questions that I've found other stylists to ask. Joey was very interested in what I had to say about my hair, and then he gave great advice about the cut and color and I left with hair that I love. I will definitely be going back; he definitely knows his hair.

I have been avoiding layers for 15 years due to one bad hair cut long ago. Joey talked me into it and I love it. I havent had a stylist in 3 years and now I dont know how I can ever go with out him! If you need a change and have no idea what you want I recommend letting joey help...or even if you know exactly what u want..go see joey!

I had become discouraged with my upscale salon in Seattle....cut and colour were never consistent. Joey did the best cut and colour I have ever had. The atmosphere of the salon is pleasant and relaxing...it's an experience in itself. I love this place! I won't be needing to look for another stylist for a long time. I am so pleased with my hair colour (red) and my cut (very current!) This is the best kept secret in Seattle....truly upscale with moderate prices!

Joey just gave me the best haircut I ever had, and I'm looking back at 50. My hair is curly post-chemo hair that has been difficult to manage the last couple of years. But after Joey worked his magic, my hair looked great when I left the shop. But here is where the magic really started to work. My hair looked great after I washed and dried it at home, and still looked great 2, 4, and 6 weeks after the cut. I wanted something short, stylish, and easy to manage. I got what I asked for. This is a new experience for me, normally I get only one of the three, to get three out of three is terrific.

And not only was the haircut great, so was the experience. Joey is down-to-earth yet artistic; a good listener yet a good conversationalist.

Well done.

I have been going to Joey for cuts and colors for months now, and I am very glad to have found him. He not only is very skilled and talented but he is genuinely caring about people's appearances. He has a very loyal client group, and works in a private salon that is impressive and pampering. I didn't think it was possible for my curly hair to look this good, but Joey has created a cut and color for me that I get compliments on all the time. This is the only place I go for a cut and highlights anymore. Whenever I'm feeling blah due to too many bad hair days, I know it's time for a visit to Joey...and I always leave happy and feeling pretty again. Seriously...best thing to happen to my hair EVER!

Joey's studio is very relaxing and upscale feeling, with a great mix of music playing at all times. I just started coming here about 3 months ago because I heard a lot of good things...and am so glad I did!

Most of us know how good it feels to walk out of the salon with great hair, only to be entirely unable to ever recreate it at home. But, somehow Joey cut my hair so that I barely do anything to it and it looks just as great - amazing!

Plus he totally understood what I was thinking of for a hair change, and made great suggestions. And I really liked that he spent a lot of time going over my (very straight) hair to get the layers just right. He's just awesome.

I got a cute, stylish and easy-to-deal-with haircut that is also - so important - really me. Absolutely, positively: go here!

I went to this salon on a recommendation from a friend. I'm so glad I did because it's the best experience I have had at a salon so far! Joey has had years of experience, so he knows what he's doing and you can trust his judgment. I love that he is not afraid to tell you whether or not your ideas are going to be challenging for you or fabulous on you. He has endless ideas for how to improve your look if you want to improve it, including face structure, skin color, eye colors and even your lifestyle. His studio is so personalized, beautiful and relaxing. I was offered some great organic coffee in a personal french press! It was amazing. With super reasonable pricing, you will definitely get what you pay for. I am completely in love with my cut and highlights.

I was new to the area and was desperately seeking a "go to" hair stylist with no luck. (previous encounters I had at other salons included razored hair "to thin" my hair and not really listening to what I wanted aka interesting highlights or Ronald McDonald hair). I read about Hair By Joey on Citysearch and thought I would give it a try.

Joey genuinely does great hair! He took time to explain everything in detail with me before doing my hair and was very thorough. He did exactly what I wanted. ( I had brought in a picture and he duplicated the look) The whole time, he was very kind and down-to-earth, and answered any questions I had. The environment was beautifully warm and welcoming. I am grateful to finally find a hair stylist I can trust! Joey you are the best! :-)

I have lived in the Seattle area off and on for over 20 years, and as you can imagine, have gone through several hairstylists since that time. Joey is the most friendly, reliable, professional, creative, patient, accommodating, and affordable hair stylist I've ever had! I know when I visit him for a haircut and color that I will leave feeling refreshed, revitalized, clean, happy, and beautiful. Joey is not only a good listener (how important is that in a hair stylist?), but he brings new ideas and fun through a very professional and positive attitude. I strongly recommend him to anyone of any age. His hair studio is a totally pampering treat, too!

Hair by Joey
As many others did after reading stellar reviews on City Search about Joey's cuts, I had high expectations.

My cut was on Dec.10, 2008; today is Dec. 27. Joey is charming; his studio is lovely. He appeared to listen to my haircut wish list. When I came in, my hair was cut in a "page boy" - about 1-1/2 inches below my ears. Slightly shorter in back but cut evenly all around. I told Joey I'm trying to let it grow another 2 inches, so I don't want shorter. I wanted it pretty much as it was, but with a little (even) layering in the back.

I told him I am allergic to most styling products; I need a simple, neat haircut that doesn't require them. I was a bit concerned to see a fair amount of hair on the floor, but when he handed me the mirror at the end, it did look neat. However, the next day when I shampoo-ed it and tried to style it, I found it had been "feathered" about 1-1/2 inches up along the back - in an uneven and chunky manner that I have no idea how to control. Too short for the round brush.

Three+ weeks later, same story. Yes, I'm disappointed. When I went in, it was almost to where I wanted it. Now it's another 3 months for the back to even out. OK, it is ok from the front, which is why I rate it 3 stars.

A couple of weeks after the cut someone named Pam said Joey had asked her to call to see how I like the cut. I told her, and she said Joey would probably like me to come in so he could fix it. I said no, it's already too short.

As an aside, some folks on the review page seem to consider $55 inexpensive; I don?t, especially with a $10 tip on top. But worth it for a great cut.

I'm slow to try new things, but finally decided to go from long hair to short. I was nervous and so was my husband. But not Joey! He was confident and did a superb job. My husband liked my long hair, but it rarely inspired spontaneous compliments from him. The new short 'do' does that. He recently said, "You know, I liked your hair just fine before, but I think your bad short hair days are better than your good long hair days."

Joey is gracious, friendly and professional. His salon is lovely. A great experience all around and I'll be a regular.

I am in my early 50s and have extremely curly crazy hair. Many hair stylists, some with curly hair themselves, have cut it over the years but I never got a style that was really cute and easy to care for, and I've had every imaginable length and cut (including Gypsy Shag, Afro and Super Short). For more than a decade, I solved the problem by just growing it very, very long and forcibly restraining it in a curly ponytail with big hair clips or a bun. But the time comes to grow up and cut the hair, so based on the fabulous reviews on this site, I went to Joey. He cut it shoulder length to start, and when I told him I wasn't afraid to go shorter, to chin length, and it now looks FABULOUS ALL THE TIME. Even when I get up in the morning, or shake it out of the ball cap I use to run in, or take it out of a towel after showering, it looks GREAT. My husband says I look 10 years younger, and my husband already liked the way I looked before this cut. I would just add that as everyone else says, Joey is a great listener, has a beautiful peaceful studio, and gives an outrageous scalp massage . . . but above all this man is an artist with hair. (I was also very impressed with the beautiful blond color work he did with the woman before me.) I'm a total Joey fan now.

I got my second haircut today with Joey. My first cut was with him about 5 or 6 weeks ago and I couldn't believe that I actually did like and enjoy my haircut. I can honestly say that this is the first time in over 20years that I really enjoyed how my hair looked. I have thick curly hair and for those of you out there with the same hair type you know how hard it is to get a good cut and style. I had just moved from Bainbridge Island and finding Joey through city search made me feel so much better about relocating to Seattle. I also feel beautiful and confident because of the way my hair looks and feels. I just got a compliment tonight on how great my hair looks from one of my neighbors. She wanted Joey's address. Believe me, I get quite a few complements on how great my hair looks. As soon as my sister comes to visit from Baltimore I am taking her to get a cut with him. Now the only problem I have is worrying about when he goes on vacation. I hope he takes short vacations!

Ambience and conversation is also very stimulating! Joey goes out of his way to make everyone feel at home.

I absolutely LOVE this place, and I owe that all to Joey. He is amazing...I have never had so many compliments on my hair. He is always willing to try new things when I am up for it, yet he's awesome about the "just a trim" days too. He completely understands what my hair will do and what I won't, and always has a nice long conversation whenever I want to do something that he thinks might not work the way I think it will. I love going to him, and I would NEVER go anywhere else in the city. Also, he is never pushy about products, but always has the best suggestions when I ask for them. With great prices and a decidedly down to earth and uniquely beautiful atmosphere in the salon, you can't go wrong. I grab a couple of his cards every time I'm in, and by the next time I see him I have already given all of them to people asking where I got that great hair.

I have been searching for someone who would give me what I wanted in a hair cut and color! Well, after 5 years of struggle, I found him and what an awesome feeling. I have never left a salon so excited about a hair do in a very long time. The color, people who see me are still raving about it, and the cut is exactly what I asked for! Joey is indeed the BEST!!! Joey created a hairstyle for me that was versatile and classic. I'm a college student and am often misdiagnosed for wanting something trendy when I go into salons because of my age. Usually, I am left unhappy and with a haircut that is unmanagable and unflattering! I appreciated Joey's ability to make a connection between my overall sense of style with a hairstyle that would complement it perfectly. He didn't stray from my vision, he only added to it in a positive way. He was very honest in giving his opinion for what would look best on me, and I never got the impression that he was merely telling me what I wanted to hear. I left a little bit more relaxed, with a great hair cut, and with some education about how to style my hair. What more could you ask for? By the way, as soon as I showed my mom my hair, she booked an appointment the next day. I think that should say enough!

Going to Joey to get my hair cut and highlighted is always a pleasure. Joey is very welcoming and down-to-earth. The atmosphere is always relaxing and the attitude is always positive. He put lots of stuff in my hair which made my hair look good until they were washed.
Hair can look good by putting lots of liquids and sprays ANYTIME. I believe AFTER having a haircut the hair should look good naturally without the lotions.
The haircut was not good the first time.When I washed my hair they didnt even looked like they were cut!
My hair are thick and at the end they are wavy. I have volume and bounce both. It really takes lots of skill and experience for anyone to do them justice.
He had asked me to come down again if it didnt look right .This was nice of him but I simply regret going the second time!
He used sizzers very roughly to cut down my volume, the second time. He was also saying cutting is not his specialty but coloring is while cutting my hair!
I was constantly feeling the pull on my head when he was cutting it. I felt like I was being punished for coming down there second time.
I was not happy with the end result. I didnt like the look and was never so unhappy in my life! The hair were cut unevenly and was totally disaster. I had to grow them till I could get a next good haircut!

Joey has turned my hair into something that I look forward to styling each day. I lived for a long time, not quite knowing which cut and style would work for my hair. Joey and I had a great conversation all about what would make me look best...and he definitely made it happen. I love my haircut and color, and I feel great about how I look and will not go to a new stylist as long as Joey is in business! He works in a very comfortable and stylish space and is a kind person too. Very unique...and fantastic! I highly recommend him.

Joey is the stylist everyone wants. He's great at haircuts and colors, and really cares about what you want to achieve with your appearance. He does not have a huge ego that I've seen with other stylists, and has a charisma and calm confidence all at the same time. I have had a hard time finding a stylist who I trust my hair with, and Joey is the one for me. You will immediately feel comfortable when you set foot in his amazing studio. It's so unique and wonderful - and is truly pampering. Great stylist, studio atmosphere, free and easy parking and very reasonable prices. I'm sticking with this guy.

I found Joey through a friend's recommendation, and set an appointment. It is hard to find the right person to do my hair, so I was more than a little nervous. I've tried a few other stylists, but they don't listen well or have the level of care for each client that Joey has. He really took the time to get to know what I was looking for in a new style and color. I've heard great things about his level of integrity from my friend, and she is right. He did a wonderful job on my cut and color, and I will definitely be back to him. It is so great to have found a solid stylist who is so great at what he does.

Joey worked me in at the last minute, which I really appreciated. He seemed to work really hard to give me what I was looking for by asking lots of questions about what I liked and didn't like about previous cuts I had had from other stylists. Because we were both in a hurry, I told him he could skip the wash and dry part of the service, which he did. After my very basic cut (I have long straight hair), he surprisingly charged me $55, which is his published price for a haircut and style. Since we'd omitted the wash, dry and styling part of the service, I asked what the price would have been had he done it all. He replied, "$65" and then added "because you have long hair", in response to what must have been a strange look on my part. His published prices don't mention anything about charging differently for different hair lengths, wash, dry and/or style options. When I got home, I realized that one side of my hair was slightly longer than the other side; this may have been rectified had I gotten the whole wash, dry and style part of the service. Nevertheless, $55 is pretty steep for a basic cut without extra services.

I found Joey through a web search when I was looking for stylists in the north end, and I was really impressed with all his great reviews. Last Thursday I went in for a cut and highlights, and I must say he has earned all those compliments. For the first time in ages, I've found a hairstylist who REALLY LISTENS. Joey did exactly what I asked for. I'm in the middle of a growout, and even though I asked my last stylist to please not cut certain portions of my hair, she did so, which set the growout back for months. As such, I was afraid this time to go back to her. But Joey managed to spruce up my growout, focusing on texture and shape, without cutting off the length at all. And he cut my wavy hair when it was dry, which makes so much sense! Other stylists have tried to cut it wet, and then have forced it to dry a certain way with blowdryers, which I've never liked. But now, with Joey's cut, it's easy to style and it can just dry naturally. After his haircut, two people have actually told me my hair looks longer! I've also asked past stylists for subtle highlights, and then I've walked out totally bleached blonde - not so with Joey. He gave me a very nice, brightening highlights, but subtle like I wanted. He was also a very nice guy - just the right amount of small talk. More than anything, he really sat down and talked with me before pulling out the scissors - which felt very professional and reassuring. Oh, and the shiatsu foot massage thingamabob was very relaxing. It made it kind of fun to wait under the dryer. Also, he sold me this Alterna "caviar anti aging" hair styling product that does seem to work for thickening my hair. I'll definitely be heading back to Joey in a couple months when it's time for my next hair appointment.

I had my first appointment with Joey today, and, I must say, I was 100% satisfied from start to finish. Not only is he a nice guy, he really knows his stuff. I had long, over-bleached hair, and Joey transformed it into a beautiful head of hair I can be proud of. He colored it with beautiful highlights and then gave me a superb cut. I had bounced from one stylist to another never getting any satisfaction - mostly because they didn't listen to what I really wanted. They just did what they wanted. Joey listened, and did exactly what I asked for. Thanks bunches, Joey. You're the man! I'll see you in November!!

I got a FABULOUS haircut at Hair by Joey. He asked me what I wanted, looked over how my hair grows, communicated well and the results make me feel like I have the best haircut I have ever received. I have somewhat curly/wavy hair and have always had trouble with finding a good cut and style to look great. I will definitely be back, because I feel even more attractive (significantly) than when I got there!

While I was there, I saw a color he had just finished for another client and it looked really incredible!

I was really wondering about all of these great reviews, had to check it out, and understand why people love this studio and stylist.

Just had my 4th appointment with Joey and I am yet another 100% satisfied customer. As a 46-year-old Seattle native, you'd assume that I would have had my "own" stylist for years now. That just wasn't the case -- I bumbled along from stylist to stylist, looking for someone who could understand my hair issues (straight in front, curly in back), do something with them and help me get a "look" that I could repeat at home. I was on the eternal quest. But then I found Joey. Now, four cuts (and dozens of compliments) later, I can say that I have my own look and my own stylist! Joey, you're awesome!

I've never had hair extensions before, but it was time to try them. Denise was highly recommended, and I have never seen a stylist as detail-oriented and focused on perfection as her. She spent such quality time with me for the consultation, and she is such a great listener. Then when she did the extensions, she was not lacking in ANY WAY...the finished product was something you would see in Hollywood; you would never know that they were extensions. They looked fabulous! She is a keen listener, a great conversationalist, and best of all a skilled extension stylist. Thank you Denise!

Ever since moving to Seattle 7 years ago I have flitted among hair stylists. Some salons were just so crazy busy that they were never on time and rushed through the services. Others left me sitting for ages while they finished with someone else and none of the cuts were creative. Then I found Joey. Joey is that rare thing in a hair stylist: someone who is creative enough to pull off an original and beautifuly haircut while also putting his ego aside enough to listen to what you want.

Joey has cut my hair from very long to shoulder length which was great, done another cut and color at mid-length and now cut it short in a kind of pixie crop. I have loved all of them.

Plus, the individual attention - tea and chocolate, a calm salon, a great massage and a foot rubber while you wait - all make it more than the usual factory-hair-salon experience.

If you were a superstar you would have a more expensive version of Joey do your hair like this. Why not have it now!

I have always had long hair and dread going to the hair salon. I have had too many bad experiences and have never gone to the same place/person twice. I was impressed by all of Joey's fantastic citysearch reviews and thought I'd give him a try. To my surprise he was able to fit me in that very afternoon. Joey's salon is set in his beautiful Seattle house and the studio itself was tranquil and welcoming. I was happy with Joey's knowledge and artistic opinion. The private setting gave off an "all about me" atmosphere which was well recieved seeing as THIS hair is attatched to MY head. Not to mention the shampoo and scalp massage was to die for and seemed to last forever! I was very satisfied and loved the way my hair looked when all was done. I didn't even have to fix anything once I got into the car. I was, without hesitation, ready to make a follow-up appointment. I would highly recommend Joey to anyone.

There really isn't one piece of constructive criticism that I could offer about this salon. After years of trekking to downtown Seattle, spending a lot of money and receiving a lot of attitude, Hair by Joey studio has made getting my hair done an enjoyable experience again.

First of all, I found the atmosphere very relaxing and beautiful. Secondly, I received the best cut and color (thank you Joey) that I can remember. Usually my color starts to fade after a couple of weeks, but it still looks just as good today as it did when I had it done. Joey really listened to what I had in mind for the style and then offered a number of different suggestions of how to achieve the look.

I am 100% satisfied with my style and color and very happy that I found a permanent hair salon again. Thanks again, Joey. See you in a few weeks.

Before Joey, I thought going to the dentist was more fun that getting my haircut. He didn't judge me for showing up in yoga pants, dying my own hair or my usual stylng method of using the car vents as a hairdryer. Last week I visited the Hair by Joey Salon. I wanted the "same" hairstyle and color that was done before. Since there was a mix up and the colors were not recorded from the last visit, Joey consulted with me and tried to get an idea of exactly what i wanted. The hair color that was unveiled after taking out the foil was a shade too dark for me and was not exactly what i had envisioned for summer.. Joey was fast to remedy the situation and stood by his guarantee of complete, 100% customer satisfaction and allowed me to come in on Saturday morning so that he could fix my hair before I attended a wedding. After the session I left with the perfect hair color-exactly to my liking. He did a great job and made sure that I was well taken care of.

I love going to see Joey to get my hair cut and colored. He is not only knowledgeable, but he truly notices and cares about what will work for me personally. He's the best listener as a stylist that I have ever encountered. He works in a studio atmosphere that is really relaxing and different than anything out there. I have naturally pretty fine hair, and he is able to give me a consistent cut that compliments my hair type and face shape/personal style. He also recommends the best products for styling my fine hair. He's not pretentious or arrogant, but is clearly one of the best stylists in Seattle. If you can get an appointment with him (he's in high demand), you are going to love it!

Just had to put a review out here and let folks know that Joey does cut guy?s hair too ? and rather nicely I might add. After doing the ?pony tail software guy? look for about 15 years I started searching around for somewhere to get my rather fine and wispy pile of hair tamed. After stopping by some decidedly snotty establishments on Capitol hill and getting a little psyched out I came across Joey?s great reviews on City Search and sent him an email asking if he could help. To my surprise he emailed me back just a few hours later with some before and after pictures to look at. Nice. Setup an appointment for the following week and then sat around fretting about it.

I was a little scared about getting something too ?hip? or a style I couldn?t manage to replicate on my own in the morning or required a bunch of exotic ?product? and the like. All reasons why I gave up in the early 90s and just started pulling it back. Joey totally put me at ease, gave me a great cut that I?m liking a lot (and so are my friends and co workers) and is super easy to manage. Huge improvement, glad I finally decided to go for it.

C?mon you rockers ? the band is so not getting back together ? time to get a decent look. Software guys ? ditch the suspenders and the ponytails ? you can do it. Give Joey a call.

Joey himself is nothing short of stellar. His salon is a welcoming, calm & relaxing spot. And his special shampoo massage adds to the pleasure of the experience. HEAVENLY! He honored all my requests and executed them quickly & professionally. We shared enjoyable & interesting conversations. He's at ease with anyone and never acted in a hurry. Being an 'old hippie chick', who gets a hair cut every 3-4 years, I went in to have my extra long hair removed for donation. OK, so I am a stylist, and was looking for someone to go to for cut and color. I found Joey on city search and read the reviews. He sounded to be amazing. I decided to give him a try. First went in for a consultation, and was happy to hear that he knew what he was talking about. Then when I actually came in and got my haircut (no color) it was a NIGHTMARE!!!! Yes the scalp massage was great, but thats not what will make my hair look good. I had long curly hair that was overdue for a cut. I asked for facial framing that he did deliver, but to an extreme. Both my sides are cut to almost the same point, so when its curly i have "dog ears" and its horrible!!!! My layers are too short and all uneven. He left the length but only a little tail that hangs unnatached almost. It looks rediculous!!! I wore my bangs strainght across for a while, and decided to go back to side bangs. I asked Joey to just give them direction for side bangs and texturize them. He took a big chunk out right in the middle, and I have to keep them clipped up all the time. I look like a 5 year old!!!! Who had cut her own hair!!! I dont know how long it will take for my hair to grow into looking somewhat normal.
I had specifically told him at the consult that I dont like to have my hair flat ironed, but blown out straight( as I do for my clients on a regular daily basis). After my haircut, he blew my hair out upside down (not something I recommend for curly hair!!!). Then he put sooooo much silk infusion into my hair that it was like a grease ball!! Then he flat ironed it, what I asked him to not do to begin with!!!
I hate my hair, and I cant believe that its all messed up like it is now!!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND JOEY, FOR HE DOES NOT LISTEN!!!!

Joey literally salvaged my hair! My stylist of three years had left Seattle and when I had my fine, thin, stick-straight hair cut by her referral, our communications got crossed. I had tired of my bob and asked her to do something edgy. She suggested an asymmetrical cut and remembering cuts I'd had back in the 80s that were asymmetrical, I agreed. The result was beyond asymmetrical - it looked like two unrelated styles! As Joey pointed out during my consult (when he heard the desperation in my voice, he worked me into his schedule), the layering and shortness on one side didn't match or in any way tie in with the blunter, longer side. I also had a sizable chunk cut out of the back hairline. His final cut remedied all these problems and I walked out of his studio elated with the new style, one that very much complements my face. He was careful to "okay" the style with me beforehand and took time to discuss future options. If your hair is baby fine like mine, or if you get a style that doesn't work from another stylist, I'd strongly recommend Joey.

I went to Joey after I saw how many fantastic reviews he had on Citysearch. Joey gave me the best haircut I've ever had. I never know what to do with my hair and most hairstylists aren't brave enough to provide suggestions. Joey listened to what I liked and didn't like about my hair, considered my lifestyle, features and personality and created a style that works for me. I had long, straight, lifeless hair that I thought I would have to cut short to give it any body and make it interesting. Joey helped me decide what was best for me (keeping it long) knew what my hair would, wouldn't (and shouldn't!) do and gave me a great, workable, hip cut that I love. I recently celebrated my mom's 50th birthday with her. I spent weeks trying to figure out the perfect bday present that she would remember forever. I decided to give my mom a complete make-over and number one on my list was a hair transformation. Now, I didn't want to schedule her at Gene Juarez or any other well known salon, I wanted somthing different. I wanted a hair artist and fortunantly after many hours disecting the internet I found him and his name is Joey.
Joey was very friendly over the phone and even managed to change some appointments to squeeze us in at last minute notice. His salon is beautiful and very clean. He was a fabulous host. He treated us to hot tea and fortune cookies! He spent time talking to my mother and experessed his "vision" for her and they both agreed and from there her hair was in Joey's hands and let me just tell you that the end results were ubelievable!!
My mom looked like a whole new woman and was extatic! The whole experience was fun and positive and made my mom's birthday all the better. You can rest assure that if you put your hair in the hands of Joey you will walk away looking and feeling more confident than ever!

I was a doubtful customer since i have african american hair, but Joey reccomended his accomplice Denise. She did a to die for job with my highlight coverage and color, it matched my new hair style that she also personally chose just for my face structure, i absolutley loved it and would post a pic to show all if i could. My sister recommended Joey and I'm so glad she did. I was in the market for a new stylist and was looking for someone personable (ever get tired of having that same old conversation every time you get your hair done?). I got a partial highlight and it was great all around. His salon is private and luxurious and is a great way to unwind after a long day. My only hesitation about getting my hair done at Joey's salon was the location- which I found to be a breeze! I was so pleasantly surprised that his location is so convenient. It took me just 15 minutes from south seattle (in I-5 rush hour!) and then just 25 min to get home to Bellevue. I would highly recommend Joey to anyone!

Getting your hair cut by Joey is an experience I highly recommend. I have shoulder-length naturally curly hair, so my first priority is not looking like a Goomba from a Super Mario Brothers game.

But, I am happy to report that Joey exceeded all my expectations: I loved my haircut (even a week later), he was super-attentive and friendly, he did not try to sell me anything, and the environment is quite relaxing. As long as I live in a 50-mile radius (and yes, I've driven that far for a great haircut), this is where I'll go.

I went in this morning to see Joey for the first time. He was very attentive and picked up right away on what style would work best for me. His attentiveness and patience made it obvious how much he cares about his clients. His 100% satisfaction guarantee is to be admired (he told me if I could not style the haircut myself the way I wanted to at home that he would be happy for me to come back in and for him to make adjustments (I'm an on the go person and have no experience styling my hair..)

I went to see Joey for the first time recently after finding him on citysearch. I have to admit...I've been hard on stylists in the past. I can be pretty picky! I wanted something new and different, and didn't quite know what to expect. Joey did a thorough consultation with me, asking about my lifestyle as it relates to my hair. He took into consideration not only my lifestyle, but my face shape, eye color, and past hair styles. Then he did the perfect cut and color for me! It was totally different than anything I'd ever had, and the BEST BY FAR for my style, face and coloring.

It has taken me almost 2 years to write this because of how upset I have been. I will give it to Joey, he is a very nice guy, but he destroyed my hair. I realize that I am going against the grain of the rest of his reviews, but I am being honest. I found him on city search. His reviews were great so I booked an appointment. When I met him he was very nice and personable. I asked him to cut my hair above my shoulders but below my chin and put in highlights of blond and red through my brown hair. I wanted it to look somewhat natural. By the time he was done I had a decent cut but my hair was COMPLETELY blond and red. After washing it the colors blended together and made pink. When I went back I told him I liked the cut but it needed to be a little shorter. He said the only thing he could do to fix the color is color it solid brown. I should have left right then because that isn't true. He could have weaved the brown back in instead, it just takes longer. When I left the 2nd time my hair was cut above my chin and my hair was solid brown.
Maybe I got Joey on 2 different bad days and he really is fabulous, but I don't think so. After leaving both times my hair was slightly shorter on one side than the other. I could have gone anywhere to get that cut. He is GREAT at cookie cutter cuts! If you want your hair to look exactly like someone else's Joey is your man! While it is important to feel comfortable with your stylist and being pampered is great, it doesn't make up for bad hair. Hair is very personal to each of us, it effects the way we feel about ourselves and how we present ourselves. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror for almost a year because I would cry.
Finally after 2 years my hair grew out enough that I could try again. I went to Sinia at Third dimensions in Poulsbo (she couldn't do worse than him). I have blond highlights and a beautiful cut that is all my own. I feel beautiful again and can look in the mirror without crying. Thank you Sinia!

In fact, Joey is so talented, that my hair looks fantastic, even after skipping appoints for a few months. I am so confident in Joey's abilities, that I will even go in and say "do whatever you want to my head." The best haircuts of my life have come out of giving Joey complete freedom to do what he wants. If you don't like to look fabulous all the time, then don't go to Joey. I am new in Seattle and was scared to try a new hair salon, but I am very glad that I met Joey. I am Asian and I have thick straight hair - it is not easy to style. But he did a great job cutting my hair the way I wanted. He spent almost an hour and worked in detail. The salon has a great atmosphere and you will get the full attention of the stylist. You can relax and enjoy the process. He spent time to discuss how I wanted my hair done and explained me how I can work on my hair every morning. I will definitely go back to get another hair cut or color.

Joey was AMAZING!!! i read all the reviews and the salon seemed too good to be true...im a girl who has never been able to stick to a specific hair dresser b/c they always cut too much or cut a little funky or didnt know where to cut what. i have never in my life walked out of a salon feeling happy and confident about they way my hair was cut...as too good as it may sound HE REALLY IS THAT GOOD!!! joey is all around a top notch...he is great about really listening to what you want, the problems youve had in the past, how he can improve your outlook on things, letting you know what he's going to do, what hes doing....on top of everything he seems to be a very well rounded and amazing person. he is a professional all around and i was utterly appreciative of this experience...i only hope and pray that he wont get swept away by his talent ...ive already set my next hair appointment and am thinking of getting highlights...GREAT GREAT FABULOUS FIND!!!! even the products are brilliant...he really is THIS GOOD!!

I made an appointment at Joey's after I read all the great reviews he had. I even skipped class and drove 1.5 hours from Bellingham to see him. Although Joey listened tentatively to what I wanted, I didn't like my haircut because my bangs were super short and my hair is a little uneven. I had the appointment at 4 and was out the door by 4:30. The haircut took him about 15 minutes if even that and the rest of the time was spent going over how I want my haircut to be. I am not sure if he rushed because I skipped the scalp massage. It could be my fault since I said I had something to do but I was expecting the haircut to take an hour and didn't want to stay longer than that.

My haircut wasn't what I wanted it to be. I even cried after I got home. I think I was a bit shocked. I had been anticipating for this haircut for a while and was very excited to see Joey. I emailed Joey a couple of days later and told him that my haircut feels uneven. He was very nice about it and offered to get me in as soon as possible. Knowing that I have to drive from Bellingham, he even offered to reimburse me if I would rather go see someone that is in Bellingham to correct the length. I am not sure if I should even get it fix because my hair is already so short and wouldn't want it any shorter. His customer service is the best that I have ever seen. I would go to Joey again just because his customer service is so great. I am optimistic that my next time with Joey will be a lot better. I have to witness the "magic" that I read about in all the other reviews for myself.

I got my hair cut by Joey a week ago. He listened carefully and patiently to what I wanted and what my concerns about my hair was. I had long hair before and I wanted a dramatic change. He is open to extreme or uncommon haircut. He is very careful at cutting and handling my hair. He also has amazing techniques. He makes sure to cut my hair carefully,making sure that I was comfortable with the length of my hair. Joey was very friendly and welcoming. He gives a very good head massage too. The other thing that was nice is Joey didn't try to become a salesman of products. Which I found to be very nice environment. :). I love my haircut!!! Super love it!!! Thank you, Joey!!!

I explained Joey that I don't like to spend too much time on my hair in the morning with my uneven curly hair and he gave me the cut that 's very easy to handle with just a little bit of hair product. I've tried several hairstylists who speak the same language as mine and still couldn't get what I wanted so it's great Joey is able to listen and determine what works for me.

Another thing that I liked was the total visit was a little under 1hr. I can see some people don't mind spending a few hours at salon but I prefer getting a great cut in a short time. I'm sure Joey spent more time if I wanted to and if it was necessary. I've scheduled for color!

With all the positive reviews, I couldn't wait to have Joey cut my hair. From the moment I walked in his studio, I knew it was going to be a great experience. His studio was so warm and inviting. Joey took the time to listen, gave great suggestions and gave me the best haircut I've ever had. I returned to work and received so many compliments. My co-worker promptly called to book an appointment. Her hair looks fabulous too! The best part about the experience was the amazing scalp and neck massage. I could feel all the tension and stress melt away. Joey is a brilliant hairstylist and he surpassed all my expectations. I can't wait to go back and have him color my hair!

Joey seems to know Asian guy hair very well. I tried several stylist in the past,
and few of them weren't too familiar with Asian hair. So the result as you can imagine
was pretty bad. But Joey, on the other hand, not only is he familiar with Asian
hair, but also pay a thorough attention to our head shape which is very important in giving
a good stylish haircut. I'd highly recommend him to everyone, especially for men's haircut.

I found Joey here on CitySearch and I'm so glad I did! I walked in looking like a soccer mom who stuck her finger in a light socket and left whispering under my breath, "dear God I'm hot." He took years off my appearance...and I'm only 31. When I showed up I explained what I would like in generic terms and he repeated back exactly what I said to insure we were on the same page. He didn't ask me to point out a picture or explain my thoughts in detail, because I figured if he was as good as all these reviews say, he would probably know what looks better on me better than I do (or I wouldn't have the light socket look in the first place.) He is an artist, and took my features into account to help me look my best.

I am of asian indian and have had a hard time finding a good stylist who understands what I want and knows how to handle indian hair! I read all the reviews out here and thought I would give him a try. And am I glad I did! I have found my hair stylist for as long as I live in Seattle.

Joey asked a couple of question to understand my lifestyle and what I wanted in a haircut. It took him less than 5 mins to understand my needs and I got the cut I was looking for. For those indians reading this I came out with a perfect "step" cut, that we are all so used to.

I was able to get a slot for only a haircut. But, I had a patch of greys and and was heading out for a week in vegas and really needed it colored. Joey gave me color and developer from his stash, so I could do it at home myself. Thanks Joey, my hair looked fab in vegas!

Last but not least Joey is the first hair stylist I know of who is accessible via e-mail for scheduling appointments (worked perfectly for me as I am alwasy connected to the internet and so its always quicker to shoot an e-mail, than pick up a phone and call, leave msg etc).

Joey is simply amazing!!! I am an Indian and haven't been able to find a hairstylist that could give me a cut that would suit my hair...and as a result, I haven't got a haircut in over 4 years! But since I am going back to visit after 3 years and after having a baby, I wanted to find someone who would do a great job..and Joey did just that! He listened to my concerns and has given me a splendid haircut that makes me look a lot younger...and best of all, it is really low maintenance :). I would highly recommend Joey. I just can't wait to get my color and highlights from him :).

I'm a redhead and finding someone that can effectively color red hair and make it look natural had gotten impossible - until Joey! over the last few years and a multitude of pedestrian cuts I decided to go see Joey. Even if I wasn't there to get any work done I coulda just sat there, soaking-in the elegant ambience. The studio is just that nice.
I was way early for my appointment which joey was very cool about, I didn't feel like I was imposing on anyone's comfort, and the two people I saw there looked very comfortable no-doubt due to Joey's people skills. I felt like he heard everything I was saying when asked what I wanted done, and if it wasn't clear to him he wasn't shy or tentative about asking for more specifics which is great cause I am no stylist myself. I only know when I like the results I get. Will I share this place? Totally

I decided to go see Joey for the first time after reading all the great reviews he received here. He definitely lived up to all of those reviews! Joey is awesome! He is very thorough and wants to make sure he understands exactly what you want before starting. I kind of had a general idea about what I wanted when I arrived, and with his recommendations, I chose some gorgeous red and brown colors. He knows what will compliment your skin tone and what?s in style. I love my hair and will absolutely be back to see him! Go see Joey, your hair will look amazing!!!

This was my first time putting myself in Joey's hands and I couldn't be happier! The salon itself is warm and comfortable. Joey took his time assessing my hair and asking me questions, figuring out just what I wanted and just want my hair and 'look' needed. I had decided on taking my fried out bleach blond hair back to brunette and Joey helped me to find the perfect warm shade of brown that brought out my eyes and made me feel like a million bucks! In addition to the wonderful final product, the shiatsu foot and leg massager and head and neck massage left me feeling relaxed and completely serene. I can't wait to go back!

I have had some extremely talented hair stylists work on my hair, so I set the bar pretty high for a new stylist. Joey met and then exceeded my expectations. First of all, I LOVE the fact that he encourages clients to email pictures in advance of their appointments! That's smart and it shows he cares about customer satisfaction. I really enjoyed the luxurious environment of his studio from the decor to the music. He's a great communicator and spends the time talking to you about what you want before starting. The finished look was phenominal! The best part is that he really stands behind his work. So if the color is too this or too that, he will quickly get you worked into his schedule to make sure you absolutely love your look!

hope I'm not losing any street cred by giving out a 5 star rating on my first review, but Joey is the real deal. My wife had never been to a true stylist before I sent her to Joey. Her hair is a bit hard to work with as it's very limp, dead straight, and pretty much refuses to hold a curl if not set in anything less than mortar. She came back with a great cut that completely transformed her look but is super easy to manage. With three kids she really can't afford to spend any more time than is absolutely necessary to get ready in the morning. Joey did the miraculous. He gave her a trendy cut that's simple to maintain, and gave her some great advice to let her bangs grow out some so he can work more magic with her look down the road.

His salon is very comfortable if you bring a friend or even two with you there's ample seating with a pair of stylish leather chairs next to a cozy fireplace. Business is booming for Joey. When we called to make the appointment my wife left a message at the time. A short time later that same day Joey called back personally and arranged the appointment with her. A testament to customer service and Joey's work ethic.

Okay...I don't have easy hair. It's curly and out of control, especially in the summer. I've struggled to find the "perfect" stylist for years. I found Joey on here and had to try him. I made an appointment with Joey because of the raving reviews and I had to find out for myself. I pretty much just asked him what he though would look great. He mentioned a couple of haircut and color ideas that would go great with my face shape and I told him to just run with it. The color came out GREAT! Bold enough to to be noticed, but classy and not loud. The cut/style is PERFECT and very trendy. Exactly what I was looking for. I got my haircut yesterday and I've already received many compliments. I went to Joey after finding him on his website, I called him and asked him quite a few questions, including whether he considers himself a good listener, does he take his time, etc. I hadn't been to a stylist in a year, (the last stylist did a horrible job) and my naturally curly hair was frizzy, split, just a mess. I usually don't let it get to that point, and am very picky about how it is styled. I made an appt for this morning, and am absolutely ecstatic! As other reviews have stated, his salon is beautiful, relaxing, and Joey is indeed very caring, listens intently and offers suggestions, and took his time. When I came in to work, all my co-workers were so complimentary and several asked for his card. Joey is the best, most phenomenal stylist I have had the pleasure of trusting to take care of me and my hair. He is also very reasonably priced, especially compared to other trendy salons I've been to who weren't even near his calibre. Here comes yet another glowing Joey review! I have caused other hairdressers to wish for death - my hair is...difficult....long, coarse, wavy, frizzy, and color-damaged. I was also not easy, because I wanted something flattering but edgy, modern yet age-appropriate, lots of contradictions. I talked, Joey really listened (a shout out to Mrs. Joey for her training!). He let me tell him what I knew my hair might do in certain styles (flip up, stick way out, go nuts), didn't assume "stylist knows best" - an attitude that has resulted in many disappointing haircuts! After a long conversation, he started cutting. The end result was gorgeous! I had GREAT HAIR! Even after a day outside, in the wind or heat, it still looks good; the mark of a great cut. I keep getting compliments.
He also let me come in for a (free) styling lesson. Great guy, great cut, gorgeous salon - and a customer forever!

so, I went to hair by joey about a month ago. haven't had a chance to write a review until now. usually I go around hopping from one salon to another. I looked on citysearch and saw all the reviews and thought i'd give this place a try. The studio is amazing! i found it so hard to believe that the hair studio was in a house. I got a haircut and highlights here. I have been getting a lot of compliments about the highlights. (I'm glad I got red tone highlights in my hair). at first, i thought this places was going to be another one of those one time deal places that you try and never come back to again. but since I just found out i'll be living in the seattle area for another 2 years, I'll have to starting booking my next appointment soon! :) Thanks joey!

Joey is phenomenal. I have always had thick curly hair, but recently I have found, due to pregnancy and prenatal vitamins, that my hair is both growing faster than the dandelions in the yard and is not falling out at all. I think the follicles must be doubling up. The result was what I termed "monster hair" - massive, unruly, thick, with little shape. Basically, I was carrying around dead weight on my head. I was looking for someone new and happened across these glowing reviews. Now I have to add my own. I still have fun curly hair, and it is still long enough to satisfy my husband (Joey, he really liked it, by the way). It's still easy to style - a little gel and maybe a diffuser and away I go. But it's about half a ton lighter, more curly, fabulous shape, etc. Joey really understood what I wanted and was able to do it up right. Finally, I found my hairstylist. Whew! And his studio is gorgeous. Great time - great price - great stylist - great products - great haircut. Thanks so much!

So I read all of Joey's great reviews and decided to call him for a consultation a few weeks ago. I was pretty upset at the time, because I had recently received a series of crappy cuts from over-priced stylists at high-end salons. I should mention that I have really short, thick, wavy, coarse hair, that is not the easiest to cut well. I told Joey all of this on the phone and he said something similar to, "While I could cut your hair, you should go see April at Derby, she is awesome at cutting short, thick hair." For a minute I wondered if I had heard Joey correctly. Was he actually referring me to another stylist? I am used to hearing, "sure I can cut your hair" and then regretting that I ever sat down in his or her chair. Well, I took Joey up on his suggestion and have no regrets. April knew what to do with my short locks, her price was reasonable, and I didn't have to deal with any snobby receptionists. Thanks Joey (and April too)!

It has been several years since I came to WA. I have tried some salons in Seattle but I never found my favorite place so I had my hair cut whenever I went back to my country in Asia. I didn?t get a chance to go back this year so I needed to look for a salon to get my hair cut. I had really good experiences at salons in my country- stylist always took time to work on details and also offered great service.
I found Joey?s salon on the web and read really good reviews. So I thought I can experience something similar at his salon. I agree the design of his salon is different from other places and I actually liked it. I also loved the massage. However, I was not that impressed-- I am not sure if I had high expectation because of those good reviews but I felt mine was quickly done.I had long hair and I was excited to have nice layers by Joey but I did not see anything special with this layer and it was just simple cut. Having stylist talk on the phone while working on my hair was not really relaxing for me at all. I spent lass than an hour at salon and I was a little bit disappointed. I did not see why many customers rated so high.

I've been wanting to cut off my long hair for some time and finally got in the right frame of mind to do it. I searched for a stylist on Seattle City Search and came across Hair by Joey. I figured since he had gotten so many good reviews I would give it a shot. And believe me, I definitely made the right decision. The cut turned out so beautiful and his salon was great. I felt like I was in a spa.

Not only was his studio amazing, but he could read my mind with what I wanted for my hair! I got some beautiful highlights for spring and a fun cut that I can style myself. I read several reviews on this site and decided to visit Joey's salon. The ambience was great and the salon area itself was cozy with a japanese inspired spa feel. Joey was polite and seemed knowledgeable about hair care products (of which I ended up buying). He took about twice as much off the length as I wanted (I had requested about an inch and it was closer to two+ inches) but that may have been because I had very dry ends and he was trying to get them all off. The color is average- it doesn't look any different than it did before even though I recieved highlights and an all over color. The cut is unremarkable and although I wanted layers, it looks exactly the same (I had no real style to begin with) except shorter. I did not recieve a reciept so I have no clue how much I paid for the shampoo/conditioner system I bought (or the cut and color for that matter). I dislike when a reciept isn't given and would have asked had I not assumed it was in the the bag with the product I purchased.

I would probably use him again if I was looking for minimal change to my style and color and wanted a stylist that was cautious. I would not use him if I wanted to do something different and was expecting a noticable change to my style and color.

Overall it was a nice salon and a nice stylist but $275 later I had no idea how much I spent in shampoo and how much was color/cut and I didn't look any different than when I walked in.

I found Joey on Citysearch, and was a little nervous to try someone new. But It was a great first-time experience. really nice studio and atmosphere inside. He gave me tips on how to style and take care of my new hair style and color (the highlights are a bit too dark but might change my opinion in few more days after the color kicks in) . He even told me that he'll fix my hair if I'm not satisfied with it. I'll definitely come back again for cutting and coloring. Thanks Joey! ~jennifer

I called, and he got me in the very next day.

I drove all the way up from Olympia, and it was well worth it.

I was a little nervous while he was cutting. I have long hair, and I wanted to keep it long and there was a lot falling to the floor...but I put my trust in him and waited for the outcome.

It turned out great. Took me a few hours to get used to, and now I absolutely love it.

I had a great first-time experience with Hair by Joey recently. I had long hair and was looking for a dramatic change, and I got it. He takes into consideration your face shape and hair type to find the right style. The scalp massage was a surprise bonus! Highly recommended. It can take awhile to get an appointment though. His studio is beautiful and comfortable. Very nice!

My friend needed a haircut _bad_. How bad? He was growing his hair out from a military cut and started resembling Count Chocula. As his good friend, I couldn't let him walk around town like that--just couldn't. It was a crisis moment. So, after reading the bulk of the 130+ reviews Joey had on Citysearch, I was impressed by his high rating of 9.8 and the fact that he actually replied to postings. I immediately called Joey to ask him if when his first opening was for a haircut. I told him about how my friend *desperately* needed his help. To my disbelief, he could squeeze me in the next day at 12:30pm! The next day when we got to Joey's, we were quite impressed with the salon setup and with Joey's quick assessment of Count Chocula's mullet 'do. After a succinct discussion of realities, expectations, trends, and capabilities, Joey performed his m~a~g~i~c! Just imagine a veritable Edward Scissorhands with hair flying everywhere. The transformation had begun from mophead to cool dude in a matter of minutes. Joey even took the time out to explain product and application. Overall, a great experience. That's why I can't wait for my appointment! Hope this helps. Next to a good doctor, mechanic, and lawyer, everyone needs a good stylist (especially one with vision+skills-to-die-for)! I found Joey on Citysearch, and was a little nervous to try someone new after having the same stylist for a while. I walked in and Joey immediately greeted me, asking if I wanted anything to drink, and making me completely comfortable. We had a long consultation about my life and how I envisioned my hair. Then he got to work. I felt like I had my own personal Hollywood stylist because I was the only one there for most of the time!

His studio is amazing, unlike anything I've ever gotten to experience. He did the best color ever, and the cut is so great I can style it myself. He took the time to give me styling lessons, and I will never go to another stylist as long as Joey is in business.

Every detail a customer could possibly want is here. You are greeted with either a french press organic coffee or tea in a beautiful asian-inspired vessel or filtered water in lovely stemware. Imagine walking into a beautiful home, with a tasteful, Asian-inspired room. Tea arrives. You are the only client as sessions are by appointment only. You then meet the stylist, charming, down-to-earth, warm, inquisitive. He asks you about your life, your hair, what you are looking for. He shares his vision of where you can go with your locks and what beauty lies within. You are shampooed, massaged, relaxed. The cut occurs with precision and creativity. Then styling. You feel great! You are given chocolate upon departing. You turn heads later in the day. People want to know where you get your hair cut. You say, "Hair by Joey"! Delightful. Rather fun, I may add. I wrote a previous review having problems with my cut, he had layered the cut down the middle when I part my hair to the side so it made the cut out of wack. Joey was amazing and fit me in as soon as he could to fix the problem, he fit me into a day I am sure he wasn't planning on working even!!. I was inspired to visit Joey based on his rave reviews here, and I was not disappointed! The ambience of his salon is amazing--it's so relaxing! Joey spent a lot of time discussing exactly what I wanted to have done and offered some great suggestions. I love the way the highlights turned out, and when I styled my hair the next day, it fell right into place. I was extremely impressed with his attention to detail.

I struggled for years trying different cuts and styles for my fine, flat hair. I had shorter cuts with lots of layers because that's all I could style on my own.

Meeting Joey has completely changed the way I view my hair. He has helped me grow it out, consulted with me to find the best color, and has given me the best cut to go with my newly grown hair! I look so much better than before.

Joey is a tremendously welcoming and endearing person, too. I look forward to getting my hair done in his studio, because it is so beautifully relaxing; it's my only "me" time for the week! I kick back with a glass of wine or cup of french press coffee, an amazing foot/leg massager, and read magazines. I can't think of a better stylist, and have recommended all of my friends. They go to Joey now too!

The first thing you'll notice is the ambience of the salon. Even though it's in Joey's private home, it has the most zen-like, relaxing, professional atmosphere, cool music. I went in for a cut and color, and was hesitant at first because I'd lost a lot of hair due to a chronic illness and didn't feel like there was much to work with to begin with. Joey immediately put me at ease, and recommended some products that would encourage hair growth, and worked magic with my hair. I only wanted a trim so that I could continue to grow out my hair as much as i could, and I could barely tell that he removed anything, except that my ends were healthier and my hair sat more smoothly. the color was startlingly bright the first day, and at first I thought I had made a major mistake in color selection. I was glad I waited. After the first few days it faded into a GORGEOUS color that has earned me many compliments. My hair is growing back, and I LOVE the texture and color. I never thought it could look this good while I'm still battling chronic illness, and it's brought back some lost confidence in my physical appearance. Thank you Joey!

Okay...so there is no Nobel "Hair Stylist" prize, but if there were I would nominate Joey.
Don't pretend you're happy with your current stylist or your current hair cut., because if you were you wouldn't be looking, right?
When I come in I let him do what he wants and I have never been disappointed. He'll ask about your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a haircut. My advice is let him do what he wants...he know what he's doing, you don't or you wouldn't be having so many bad hair days!!!!

I've been living in Washington now for over five years and have really been missing my Arizona stylist of over ten years. Because of my previous stylist, I am very particular in my expectations of a stylist and was really becoming discouraged. I stumbled across Joey's ratings here at Citysearch and decided to give him the ultimate test by scheduling an appointment for a cut and highlights. I typically don't let a stylist I don?t know color my hair but I figured 100+ women couldn?t be that wrong, so I took a leap of faith. Well I'm so glad I did! Not only is the studio beautifully designed and very relaxing but Joey is truly a phenomenal stylist. He listens, he consults, and he designs this amazing head of hair like an artist works a sculpture. I must say these are the most amazing highlights I've ever had and the cut is just as fantastic and very workable. He taught me a few styling techniques to achieve and maintain the look and I couldn?t be more delighted with it. The studio is a perk that throws the whole experience right over the top. I highly recommend giving Joey a try. He?s an accomplished and professional stylist with a lot of class. I?ve finally found my stylist and as it turns out, he?s better than Larry! See you soon Joey!

I loved the studio the moment I walked into it. Very relaxing and Joey was very welcoming. Joey was good about taking the time to talk with me about what I was looking for and how he thought I would achieve it. I have a VERY hard time trusting someone new but he seems to be very confident and after reading some many good reviews I felt safe. So all in all the color turned out pretty good, the honey colors were a little orange for me, even after I warned him my hair turns orange easily but other than that I loved it. As for the cut one side looks completely different. One side is blended and the other is totally not, it is very choppy and blunt and uneven. I know he will fix it for free, but it is already a little too short and am afraid that it might take some hair to get it even again.. so maybe after a month of working with it I might have it fixed but other than that I would recommend him for color, I am really sorry I have to say the cut I wouldn't.

I have been a loyal customer of a well known salon company in Seattle for years. I grew dissapointed with the lack of creativity with each hair cut,so I decided to try a local stylist. Her shampoo bowl created so much stress in my neck I needed to see a chiropractor afterwards; in addition to a very poor cut. This finally lead me to my search with city search.
I was impressed with Joey's presence on city search; his ratings, website and customers comments were the best I had seen. Especially knowing about the privacy factor! this was the selling point for me!
I am so glad I went. The service was friendly, professional, clean, attractive,loved the i-squeeze massaging machine while waiting.. Joey listened to exactly what I wanted, (I am very particular and not easy to please);
the products he uses are higher quality, the cut very nicely done, and BEST of all the Shampoo bowl , AWSOME!!! the best I have ever put my head into... Love the privacy too.

When I walked into Joey's studio, I was immmediately at ease. The place is amazing, and I felt like it was my own personal oasis. It's immediately relaxing, smells great, music, fireplace, fountain, great magazine selection, and french press coffee!!

Joey is very professional and amazing at doing hair. He asked me about my lifestyle, asked what I liked about my hair, what I didn't like, and what would be ideal for my change. He took everything into consideration, including my eye and skin color. After an in-depth consultation, he got to work. I left with my best hair EVER. I've been able to style my hair well since my appointment, which is my final test of a good hairstylist. Joey, don't move...I'll be with you for life!

I first found Joey while in graduate school and living in Seattle. My classmate raved about her hairdresser and I just had to see what all the hype was. After my first visit, I had to agree. Once I graduated I moved back to California and frequently flew back to Seattle from California to get my hair cut and colored. No one does color like Joey and it was worth the trip! I have a four month old daughter and have been to Joey twice. In addition to fabulous hair, he was amazingly understanding with my fussy baby. I think she cried about half the time and never once was he flustered or made me feel rushed in any way. He was accommodating to me but still considerate of his other clients and their experience. Very professional. I highly recommend him for any new mom who wants a little pampering time and needs to tote around their little one. Joey is the way to go!

I went to Joey less than a week ago after reading his reviews on Citysearch. I'm new in town and so I figured I'd give him a try since I needed to find someone to cut my hair anyway! I'm glad I did! I've waited a few days before posting this so I could really see how the haircut would be with my own styling products and technique and to see how I would feel about it after a few days. I'm glad to say that it's an awesome cut! But it's more than just the cut that impressed me. He offered us drinks, magazines and internet access during our short wait. The haircutting process was comforting. Before I moved to Seattle, I had a great stylist in Salt Lake City. Had I been independently wealthy, I would have considered flying back there just to have my hair done (as many of Joey's clients do!) because: the color! the cut! the complements!

The moment I left Joey with my brand new hair color and style my life started to change. My adult son stopped mid sentence and said &I quote "Mom, you look absolutely great".. He called me again at 10:00 that night to say how excited he was to have his beautiful Mom back.
The next wonderful moment was during dinner at Salty's with my significant other. He told me I look 10 years younger and I not only looked great but had a new attitude about myself. That attitude has gotten me more gentlemen admirers than I've had in years.

I need to return to add an addendum. I just read a few reviews from clients who were not totally satisfied with Joey's work.
When you hire a professional who unquestionably knows infinately more about his field than you do, you LISTEN!!! I trusted him when he radically changed my color and Wow it's sooo much better for my skin tones. Yes, I've had a couple of cuts I wasn't happy with, but Joey put me on a plan where I had to go through a transition phase until he could get me to the perfect cut. Joey has been on a learning curve finding out how to get the upper hand on thin, aging hair full of cowlicks. He has won the battle and I have never enjoyed so much body and beautiful hair. Be patient, ye of so little faith. I guarantee you he will deliver perfection. The man is a genious with hair.

Joey is the best hair stylist in Seattle! Joey is really an artist at what he does and approproaches his work with a passion that makes a difference. Prior to going to Joey I had tried all the major salons in Seattle but none compare to Joey. Complete strangers have asked where I have had my hair done and now all of my friends go to Joey. I have moved to Singapore for work but travel back to Seattle once a quarter, and my first stop is to have my hair done by Joey. Recently Joey has opened a private hair studio in his home, and the experience is amazing. He has only high end products and the nicest salon equipment and furniture. The special touches and details that include french press coffee, fine wines, herbal tea and finishing off the visit with a fortune cookie not to mention the denon sound system pumping out chill tunes will make you feel like you have entered a salon in the far east.

I have been going to Joey since 2002. I moved to Florida almost two years ago and I still come back to Seattle so Joey can do my hair. He always gets me on his schedule even when he is booked and calls you a few days after the appointment just to make sure everything was ok with your hair and that you had a positive experience. THis is a stylist that really cares about his clients. He provides his opinion on what he thinks will look best on you (and it always does). You leave Joey after your appointment looking and feeling beautiful. Joey just recently opened his own private hair studio and the environment is wonderful. You don't want to leave the studio and there are plenty of great magazines to read as well as internet access for you to use while you are waiting. This is a great stylist and I highly recommend scheduling an appointment with him!

Finding a stylist has been a never ending task for me. They never seem to get it quite right. I wanted a stylist who wasn't afraid to take chances with my (long, thick, straight) hair. They all seem to feel that I'll be upset with the final result. My thought on the subject is that it's hair, it will grow back. So I put my faith into Joey, and he did not let me down. I now have the hair I've always wanted. The style is right, the color is right, it even feels healthier than it was before. Next week will be my third time seeing him, that must be some sort of record for me. He's even programmed in my cell- that's when you know you've found a keeper.

Joey has been doing my hair for several years now and I would not dream of letting anyone else touch it. I travel by bus for 2 hours for each of my appointments and it is worth every minute of it. Joey is very considerate and each time I change how I want my hair he makes me look like a superstar. I'm so glad I found Joey. My hair is semi-challenging, and I'm always a little nervous to try a new stylist. My friend recommended Joey when I asked her how she got such great hair. My experience with him was stellar. He engaged me in a consultation about my hair, lifestyle, and really found out what would work best for me. He is highly skilled at color, and came up with a color and cut that really complimented the shape of my face and skin color. The scalp massage was amazing! I'll definitely be back. I don't know what the one negative review was saying below, but it definitely does not describe my experience with this top-notch stylist.

Inexpensive, but you get what you pay for... My hair has always been on the farly attractive and healthy looking. Not after this Rock Star Stylist. I now have scary hair. My hair wasn't shaped properly, Joey said he would fix it. Huge mistake going back. Grabbed clumps of dry hair and cut. I have medium to dark brown hair. The highlights were big chunks of over bleach hair. Many tiger stripes in the highlights. The bleach leaked to the roots and other hair causing Orange, Yellow and Blonde.. He asks for you to write him a good review. Even tells you what he wants the heading to say.

Joey has a gift for cutting hair. He came highly reccomended by several people that I know. My review for Joey is going to be no different than most of the reviews I have read here. After several unsuccessful visits to some of the "branded" hair salons, haircut had become one of the stressful items on my to do list. Skeptically, I decided to give Joey a try. And it turned out to be one of the best decisions. He not only gave me a great haircut but also showed me an easy and convenient way of styling my hair everyday (I have thick wavy hair). He showed me the technique for drying my hair and since then the hair dryer has become my friend! Definitely worth the trouble and time spent travelling from the Eastside.

I can not tell you the countless stylist that I have been to without ever being fully satisfied. Sure they would do an alright job, but Joey did a smashing job. I couldn't be happier. Finally- I have an official stylist who has no plans on leaving the city or going back to school. Also, Joey really listens to what you want from the experience. After all, this is a service that is rolled up into the entire experience of the visit. Which leads me to my final point that not only is he incredibly talented, but also cares about customer service-He is the Nordstrom for customer service in the hair biz. Right on Joey! See you on my next visit.

FINALLY!...I found a hair stylist I love. I have been searching for a LONG time for someone to do my hair (cut and color) in a way that I enjoy. Now that I visited Joey my hair looks amazing; when I wake up, when I let it air dry, when I haven't washed it in a few days...you name it. I think what I like best is that Joey listens to me, gets a good feel for what I want, communicates that back to me (clarifying), and then follows through with an incredible job. I have found my stylist...I'm not going to anyone else. I would encourage anyone and everyone whose particular about their hair to visit Joey.

I've only been to Joey once so far, but he came highly recommended by two friends of mine. The head massage is worth the price, and the haircut was great. He really listens to what you want. The real treat was the piece of chocolate at the end!

I've lived in Seattle for 8 years and couldn't find a stylist I liked until I met Joey. I have long, completely straight hair and you would think, "How hard can that be to cut?" That's what I thought too but apparently cutting straight hair in a straight line is a huge challenge. Joey has been an amazing addition to my feeling pretty routine! :) He's cut my hair at all diffferent lengths over the last 2 1/2 years and I always get compliments, no fail! I've sent a ton of friends to him and they all come back raving about him! He's also colored my hair for the first times I've been brave enough to try it and done such an amazing job keeping it looking natural yet amazingly beautiful that I can't believe I never tried it before. Couldn't recommend anyone with more confidence!

So this is how great Joey is, the day before my Sr. pictures I had my hair colourd. Now what was supposed to be done was t oturn my poorly self dyed red hair back to my natural dark brown, and get a trim whiel at it. My first mistake (besides trying to dye my hair myself) was to go some where besides derbys. The woman who did my hair dyed it BLACK! not only black mind you but that blue-ish black. Needless to say I wasnt thrilled. So that same day my mom asked me if I knew of anyone who could soften my look and make it more me for my pictures. First thing that came to mind was my best haircut, done by Joey. So when we called Joey we found out that it was his day off and that he was only in derbys to pick up a few things. Then finnaly when I was put threw to talk to Joey, and explained my situation he told me come in and he would fix my hair. Even on his day off! He did an amazing job, as usual, and my pictures turned out just how I wanted them. Trust the girl whose been there, Joey knows what he is doing.

My first impressions of Joey was that he was incredibly professional. He took ample time listening to what I liked/disliked, and didn't rush right in to get the job done. It is obvious that he cares about his clientele, and he wants to be someone that you will return to again and again. While I loved my haircut, I was especially impressed with how well he took care of me while I was at the salon. He truly wants you to be 110% happy with the results.

I've been to so many different salons and had a hard time finding a stylist that listened to me. A friend recommended Joey and I was not disappointed. I brought in a few pictures so he could see what I was looking for and also what I was not looking for. He understood what I wanted and also made other suggestions and I love my hair. He is the coloring specialist! You will never walk out of his salon unhappy. Joey educates his clients about their hair type and what works for them. I can actually go home and style my hair the way he does. He's wonderful and also a lot of fun!

I now LOVE my hair. Joey gives the best cuts and color! I can always tell a great cut by how long I can go between cuts and my hair still looks great two months later when I go back in to see Joey!! I recently got color and highlights from Joey (after many months of coloring it myself!!..yikes!)....and I will NEVER go back to coloring it myself, nor will I go anywhere else. If you want amazing hair, you must go see Joey. If you want someone that will give you personalized service and help you to look your best, you must go see Joey. He's the best in Seattle.

After putting up with mediocre stylists I finally found Joey. Praise the lord! I have dry, curly, Asian hair (usually flat ironed) and was tired of other stylists playing it safe with my hair type and giving me standard cuts and color. Joey fit me in at short notice even though he was booked until the following month (he knocked a friend off :). Firstly Joey's demeanor is very charming and polite and puts you completely at ease so you can tell him exactly what you want and you don't feel crazy bringing in pictures of the look you want. Secondly he took time to ask about my lifestyle (corporate) and helped me to get the color I wanted (edgier) coupled with a few sanity checks (which I totally appreciated). I ended up with something acceptable to both me and my environment - Amazing!
Joey talks you through what he is doing so it's no surprise. He recommends products but there is no hard sell like other salons. I had a great head massage - and was not afraid to ask for the right pressure for me.
A few days later - although I liked my cut I thought I should have taken his recommendation to add more layers so when he called me to check a week later how I liked my hair I told him as much. Rocking Joey fit me into his tight schedule THAT WEEK (and on his day off) and thus I had my hair layered my hair to match my changing requirements!
Honestly when I first read the recommendations I thought they were all paid or friends - but go to Joey and you can't help but rave about him and your hair. I'm glad I found him - even though I am now moving to Vancouver BC - he is the only guy (apart from my dear boyfriend) who I will let touch my hair ever again. Worth the 3 hr trip. Thanks Joey!

Like a lot of Joey's clients, I recently moved to Seattle. As much as I would have liked to time my trips back to Chicago with my need for a haircut and stay with my tried and true hairdresser, it just wasn't going to happen. I was in the process of trying to grow out my hair and was in despreate need of a little shaping. So I found Joey on citysearch and gave it a go. Joey was very accessible and I was able to get an appointment within a few days. Joey is genuinely a really nice guy (and former rock star...) and the cut was great! I liked him so much I booked my next cut and color before I left the Salon.

I recently moved to Seattle and found Joey on Citysearch. I decided to give him a try based on the reviews I read, and they actually ended up being right on! I didn't know what I wanted exactly, but I came with pictures of what I wanted my hair to eventually look like after I have grown it out. I also knew I wanted a change with some sort of bangs to fix broken hair in the front of my head. Joey had great suggestions and made me feel comfortable with the changes in style. He fixed my problem spot and I still am happy with the style after a week! Joey does a great job and even called to follow up with me to be sure I was satisfied!

The chic-chic salons usually seem to have an attitude equating the attention you give your hair to your level of morality, and the lower end salons - well, you just end up feeling a little demoralized and disappointed. Joey strikes the perfect balance of a great cut with impeccable service, leaving you with a smile for the rest of the day. There's no sales pressure, no critiquing your previous stylists, just positive smiles and genuinely interesting conversation and you actually forget you were there to get your hair cut. And somehow while you're chatting away you realize - wow, my hair looks amazing! I didn't even know it could look like that.

Practical pluses: great scalp massage, and really good instructions on how to make your hair look just as good when you're the one doing it.

I've never been happier with another hairstylist. Asian hair is super hard to work with for most stylists, but Joey nails it every time with a clean, fluid cut that makes my hair look polished and stylish. He calls the following week to make sure that I liked my cut, and even gives a relaxing scalp massage!

Joey is, by far, the best stylist I've ever met. He's really booked, so you have to (usually) call in advance for an appointment.

I've been in Seattle for three years and have had a hard time finding someone who does my hair the way I like. I'm REALLY picky, and have "challenging" hair I've been told. It is pretty unruly. Joey has consistantly given me great cuts and has helped me deal with my stubborn hair. He also is the best colorist I've ever found. Strangers stop me on the street to ask where I get my hair colored. Really, it's sort of crazy how often I get asked! A lot of my girlfriends now go to him too, and we are the best looking group of ladies you'll find! :) He's really nice too, and is very professional. He always calls the next day to see if I'm having any troubles with my new 'do and to make sure I'm delighted.

A friend and her daughter recommended Joey. He has cut my hair twice and I'm satified with his work. I brought my teenage daughter to him, as well. What keeps me coming back is Joey's commitment to customer service. Working with a new customer is a learning experience, and Joey actively engages in learning about his customers, how their hair behaves, what they want, how they live.

I was impressed also by the way he uses electronic technology to make it easy to get in touch with him. His web-site is informative, listing e-mail address as well as phone number. And he's very responsive to both. My friend called him for an appointment, and he answered the phone while he was walking in Times Square in New York City! He wears a hands-free phone and even answered while cutting my hair. And he keeps his books in a PDA. But he isn't focused on the technology. He just takes advantage of it to communicate with his customers.

Another example of his commitment to customer service is his follow-up call. Most stylists will say that you're welcome to come back to adjust a cut or for free bangs-trims, but Joey really means it. In fact he routinely makes a follow-up call about a week after your visit, to ask if you are happy with his work and to offer to correct any problems.

What a guy!

I was growing tired of my old stylist, so I decided to go to Joey after reading all the fabulous comments written by others. Joey's a great guy and very personable. I was able to communicate what I wanted and Joey did an outstanding job (men's cut & style). This is definitely the place to go if you want a fashionable style. The Salon has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere anybody will feel comofrtable in. I would definitely recommend Joey to all my friends.

I have been seeing Joey for haircuts and foils for over a year and a half and could not be more pleased. Even though my dark hair can be difficult to color, Joey always works with me to get the color just right. He always makes sure I am happy and goes the exrta mile to accomodate my ever-changing schedule. I give Joey's card to all of my friends. Even my boyfriend gets his hair cut by Joey and would never think to go to anyone else.

With great trepidation, I left my hairdresser of many years when I moved to Seattle. One day a woman I worked with came in with a terrific haircut so I took the plunge and took up with her stylist, Joey. He's been terrific. Truly great cutting and coloring, very individual styles, definitely o cookie-cutter. In addition, he's a very nice guy and does a great hand and scalp massage. Salon is very comfortable, not pretentious, a little funky.

After relocating to seattle from southern california my first tast was to find a new stylist, we all know how tedious this can be. I consider myself lucky to have found Joey almost immediately. He doesn't just sit you down and start working, first he finds out all about you everything from where you work to what you read. He then designs a style just for you, and no one else. Now that he has started he works away diligently to create a peice of art. In the midst of this you will recieve a lovely herbal tonic and hand message. His color is vibrant and the cut is equally as magical! Not only is his work exceptional, but his timing is great ~ efficient! He now sends you off looking like a movie star with a chocolate truffle in your hand YUM! He's in high demand so dont delay!

Joey is nothing short of Fabulous. I had moved down from Bellingham and was terrified to find a new hair person so I was commuting back every 3 months to get my hair done until my friend convinced me I had to see Joey. She down right forced me to go with her one Saturday and I have been back to my Bellingham hair person since. Joey is highly skilled and makes you feel FABULOUS every moment you are there with him. He takes the time to listen to what you want and then lets you know how it's going to look. He's constantly learning new things and doesn't mind telling you step by step everything he's doing.

I have never gone to the same stylist twice. Not one stylist seemed to get my hair just right with color or cut. I was very hesitant to try Joey since I live in Graham and he is in Seattle. Well worth the drive! Also, I have 7 busy teenagers and can never make an appointment months in advance. He totally understands that and there is never any pressure. He also understands and gives me no greif if I go many months without getting my hair done. When I call to make an appointment he is very patient and works very hard to coordinate my busy schedule with his. I love that his focus is to keep my hair looking as healthy as possible and gives his honest opinion. I fully trust his judgement when it comes to my hair. I will never go anywhere else!

I moved from CA. Here in Seattle I went from Salon to Salon for two years attempting to find a stylist. I found Joey on City Search. To Joey youre not just a client, youre a friend, and his top priority is to make you feel comfortable and beautiful. He listens to what you want and incorporates that into the exact result that you are looking for. His enthusiasm for hair is infectious and you leave there feeling relaxed and excited plus ready for a night out on the town. I have been going to Joey for a couple of years now and there is no one else I would trust to do my hair.

Joey came highly recommended by several friends. It's hard to find someone to cut really short hair, but Joey is always up on current style and willing to work with the ideas you have in your head. In addition, his does unbelievable color! He tried combinations I thought wouldn't work with my hair but turned out fantastic (people always compliment). I'd follow Joey anywhere!

I have never gotten so many compliments about a hair cut as I did after going to see Joey. It was all the talk at my work the next day! I was so happy that Joey was able to squeeze me in at the last moment before my cousin's wedding in Solvang, CA. Joey was wonderful in helping me find a style and cut that is easy to maintain and flattering to my features. He gives a great scalp massage and the extra touches such as the chocolate when you leave the salon and the follow up call to make sure the hair cut is "just right" truly makes you feel pampered! The staff at the Derby Salon is very nice and I "loved' the creamy Earl Gray Tea they served there. I can't wait to go back and get some nice honey gold highlights.

Joey is the best stylist I've had in Seattle. I made a bold move to go from long, straight (boring) hair to a short cut. I let Joey use his insticnts on the "right" style for me, and he did an AMAZING job. I've been going to him for a year now. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair ever since Joey has been my stylist. He's the best!!

Joey was referred to me and several others by a friend and we are all very impressed with Joey's skills with haircuts and color. He spends the time to get to know you and find out what you are looking for in a cut, style and color and delivers more than you expected. He is very friendly and puts you at ease to create a very relaxing atmosphere. Well worth the time and money!

Joey has been styling my hair for almost a year and I wouldn't trust my hair with anyone else. He does a consistently great job - I get complimented all the time on my hair since starting with Joey. He is friendly, down to earth and seems to really love styling hair. He is also particularly good with color. The salon in general is also comfortable with lots of fun things to buy. All my friends and coworkers go to Joey - I can't say enough good things about him! I hope he never stops styling hair!

Joey has been cuting my hair for 7 years. I drive from Federal Way just to see him. I am always happy with the results and get constant compliments! The salon is wonderful and everyone is very friendly.

Ever been stopped on the street by completely random strangers who just HAVE to know who did your hair? I had never had this happen to me, I have never been to the same hair stylist more than once, nor been 100% satisfied, until I met Joey. Joey is so easy to sit down with, have great conversation, the most relaxing scalp and hand massage, and have absolute confidence that your hair will look amazing. He takes in the whole package, ie. personality, style, wants, and tailors your cut and color to match. When you tell him what you want, there is no need to worry that anything will be lost in translation. I cant say enough wonderful things about him, and my experience with him for the past two years proves that I will not ever need another stylist. In other words...run, do not walk to Joeys chair!

I have been going to Joey for about 5 years now... I was actually referred by another client of Joey's after moving to Seattle and beginning that dreaded search for a new hairstylist. Like your significant other, when you find "the one" you stick with 'em... Joey listens to how you feel about your hair and what you would like to do with it... whether cutting, growing it out, changing the color a bit, and gives you options. He genuinely cares about your hair, that you like it, and that you can style it on your own at home. He even calls a few days later to see "how you're lovin' the hair". He's "a keeper"!

now go to the best. I have been going to Joey for 5 years for cuts and color. I made the mistake of trying another salon, only to come crawling back after 2 sessions. I will not do that again! Joey is a gifted colorist and a very good cutter. He is fun to talk to, provides sensible, tuned-in advice, and gives great hand and scalp massages. He takes a personal interest in you and makes interesting conversation! I always look forward to my hair appointments and the results of the cut and color! Joey also receives regular training on the newest color/cut trends, so you will have the best care. The Derby salon has a hip ambiance too!

I started seeing Joey on a referral from a friend, and after a few months several more of our girlfriends were also clients of his. Joey has been my stylist for a year and a half and I can't say enough about how good he is at what he does. Every time I get my hair cut and colored at least 4-5 people stop and ask me who did my hair. Joey is great at working with you to come up with a style that fits you and works well for you, offering great ideas and possibilities to consider. He's quick to respond to emails and voice mails regarding appointments and he gives a killer scalp massage when washing/rinsing your hair! To top it all off, not only to you walk away from Joey's chair looking totally fabulous and feeling very relaxed from the scalp massage, you also get a little chocolate treat as he sends you on your way. Bottom line, you should have Joey cut your hair.

The only stylist I have found that really 'listens' to what you are saying! He not only listens, but he great at discussing why and what he thinks will work too. I find he truly works around your best features and gives you a style that compliments YOU! Love that he not only does reminder calls - but - have you ever had a stylist do a follow up call? He does! He actually calls to make sure you love the cut or color he did for you. I think this is really going above and beyond. I drive out about 50 minutes each way to get to him - and he is well worth the drive. You won't be disappointed.

Joey is definitely the best stylist that I have ever been to. In the past, I often didn't go back a second time--but I've been going to Joey for 3 years now, and have never been disappointed. He always has suggestions/recommendations for me, and is able to put that together with what I am looking for. He's a master with color and gives a great cut too. I've had to "break up" with many of my past hairdressers because of bad hair color. I was always able to get a decent cut but usually the color would bring me close to tears. Joey has an amazing talent of putting a great color with a perfect cut and 1:1 attention. When I am in his chair I know that his focus is on me and on giving me the hairstyle that I want and envision. The ultimate compliment is being stopped by women wanting to know who does my hair.

I like to look stylish, but I don't like to fuss with my hair. I've tried out various stylists in downtown Seattle in search of a stylish but low maintenance hair cut. Unfortunately, I always felt like I was paying way too much for a mediocre hair cut. Now, I get fabulous hair cut for much much less (including an incredible scalp massage)!! I found Joey on CitySearch a couple weeks and called the number, thinking his studio was nearby. Upon speaking with him I discovered it was much farther away than I thought, but I was so impressed by his professionalism and friendliness over the phone (and his willingness to fit me in within the hour to his busy schedule that day) that I decided to give him a try anyway. I was very pleased with the cut and his efficiency and personability. I will defifnitely be a regular client of his.

I am a long-standing customer of Joey's. I make the drive from Tacoma to see Joey because there is no one better for my hair! (I used to drive from Puyallup.) He is an expert at cutting and coloring my curly hair. I get compliments several times a week. An added bonus is Joey's wonderful personality and people skills. He's a great conversationlist and asks questions that make you think. Joey is a very caring professional who truly enjoys his work, and makes your visit fun! The hand and scalp massages are just the icing on the cake! As long as I am able, I will make the commute to see Joey.

I couldnt be happier with my hair since I found Joey! Joey really listens to what I want , and delivers the look I want everytime. I've got lots of compliments for my hair from others since Joey became my stylist. Joey is fun and easy to talk to too. I have brought lots of friends to him.
Im Asian and I have lots of thick hair which is really hard to cut. My style is simple but it took me a few years to find the stylist that could give me the right look. I tried 10 hairdressers after I moved to the Seattle area and I was not happy with the look to say the least. Finally I found Joey. The first time I went in I brought a picture of my ideal look (Anybody else is Jennifer Aniston fan?) And that was what I got.

Before I met Joey, I didnt think it was possible to have a good haircut with my fine, straight and calic-y hair. Since Ive been going to Joey (about 5 years), Ive gotten numerous complements on the cut and color. My friends and even total strangers are always asking where I get my hair cut! I never liked my hair until Joey became my stylist. Now I receive compliments regularyly, even from strangers. The man knows his color and cut techniques like no other stylist I have met. Joey rocks! A friend of mine recommended Joey to me and I've been getting my hair cut from him ever since. He always makes sure that personal style and needs are met before adding his own artistic vision. And I can always expect a call from him a week after making sure that I'm still loving my cut. The scalp massages are also a highlight!
