This was a great neighborhood hang-out for me, whether a lazy roll out of bed on a Saturday morning, or a quick stop-in before catching the bus to downtown. The coffes is delicious, the breakfast scones and pastries tasty, the staff very friendly. The place is cozy enought to sit and read for a while.

The staff at the Ballard Java Bean are always upbeat and friendly.

Espresso drinks come standard w/ 2 shots. Most of the baristas are good latte artists, which adds a nice touch to the foam on your drink. They have some of the best biscotti I've ever had, particularly the cranberry variety. They also sell whole bean coffee; I strongly recommend the Ballard Blend (organic, fair trade, shade grown - just like all of their whole bean coffee sold by the pound or via drinks). A few of their pastries that they get from Alki Bakery leave a bit to be desired, but the cookies are all very good.

The seating area inside is a good size and there are 6 tables or so on the outside.

Pros: Great coffee beverages, whole bean coffee, biscotti and friendly service

Cons: So-so Alki Bakery items
