I like having this place in the neighborhood. The food is good, and a good value, but for some weird reason, they price their wine to high. $10 for a small glass of wine negates all the other great things they do. Price wine at $6, and it

Outstanding Greek food in a small intimate environment. The interior is classic, as is the food. Every dish we've had feels authentic, and the flavors are just incredible. Staff is always friendly, and it usually doesn't take too long to get a table. Highly recommended.

We have been going to Yanni's for over 10 years, probably longer. It is a wonderful quiet restaurant with a varied menu. My favorite time to eat is late morning on the weekend. The food has always been good, my kids love the gyros, and there is a nice neighborhood feel for the ambiance.

Pros: The Best Oriental Stile Cuisine

.

First of all I must confess that I am not a big fan of dinning out ..I would rather cook something myself and enjoy it with a few friends in the cosiness of my house. But a few days ago a good friend of mine invited me to this apparently common Greek restaurant called Yanni's for dinner and to catch up on things .What it was supposed to be something common ...gradually turned into something very special...I mean the servers there were really nice, polite and patient and gladly explained the menu since the titles in there where somehow hard to understand if you were not familiar with the Greek cuisine..also the food was definitely entirely cooked after they took our order since it took quite a while to have it on the table ..and boy it was worth it!!!I I had the lamb shank and it was the best lamb I have had so far. I hate when the food it's previously precooked and they just warm it after they take your order to the kitchen...and unfortunately this is a very common practise in the majority of the American restaurants...sad!My friend had the chicken souvlaki and he simply loved it.The atmosphere was calm and friendly, again the service was extraordinary and the food ... many compliments to the chef.Definitely going back there for more

I have been going to Yannis for over 10 years now. When I have friends in town I make it a point if they enjoy greek food to go there. Best soup in town I tell you. And those potato's, oh my yum.
It's upsetting to read some reviews about slow service. I prefer to say "layed back". If you want fast food I suggest you head to jack in the box of the cheesecake factory.
I like to have a glass of wine and enjoy the company that I am with. I hate when food is shoved in your face and you are rushed out of the place.
The staff at Yannis is genuine and friendly. They remember you. They say hello, welcome you back, make suggestions then let you enjoy your evening without being pushy or in your face.
The food is delicious and the portions are enough for you to take home for a midnight snack or lunch the following day.
If something is incorrect they fix it. I think people need to remember that we are all human. Mistakes are allowed. I have never had a problem with my order that could not be easily solved.
As I said I have been a patron of Yannis for over 10 years. I feel at home there. Great food, good area. I keep going back.

----Oh and no matter how stuffed you are, order the galactobureko (how ever you spell it) SO delicious.

Cons: inpatient people next to us.

we went to Yanni's for an early dinner (6:30) on Friday night; five adults and two kids. The place was not crowded. When we finally left @ 9:15 we had still not received our dinner. We had received our soups/salads which by the way were wrong. Their service, albeit friendly enough, is a joke. Luckly the kids, both three, were saints. The husbands stuck around to get our dinner's to-go while the ladies carted off the family. By the time we got home to eat the food was cold and rather bland. This was our first and last time to eat here. From the sounds of other reviewers this is typical of their service. Too bad.

Pros: at least they apologized, even if it was fake.

Cons: incredibly slow service, very average food,

They say "good things come to those who wait" and I would say that is a great description of Yanni's. I have been on multiple occasions and althought the service was not "speedy" by any means, it was polite and helpful, and the food...... Amazing! We went as a group this last weekend and knowing the slow service reputation, planned ahead for it. We had drinks and appetizers, and when we went to order we were able to have great input from our server. I ended up getting the special which was a marinated pork chop (actually turned out to be two full bone in pork chops...) and the flavor was amazing, with the olives, mushrooms, and onions... I couldn't wait to have the leftovers.
I have been to several other greek restaurants around the city and this one tops the list for me (even the waiting)!!!

I am Macedonian by nationality. I am not saying that to spark any unnecessary political debate, just to let you know I have been around Greek cousine my whole life and know what it should taste like.
This restaurant was far from that. Their greek salad was very american, the gyro was absolutely TERRIBLE and the feta cheese was disappointing. However, the Souvlaki was delicious and the baklava was dead on. Just delicious. I really wanted a good gyro but they failed to perform.
There are other places in Seattle where you can spend your money and have better Greek food. Trust me. Come here for some good dessert or just totally bypass this restaurant. The atmosphere is inauthentic and the food is below average. This is also not a good place to spend a romantic evening with someone you care about. It lacks a bit of character. Although, with the right person, any restaurant will seem fitting ;)

Okay> If you're going to have to wait for your food, it better be pretty darn good. In this case, its really not. My lovely dining companion waited >>1 hr (and paid $17) for 4 tiny cups of dip and a small pile of goo that were underwhelming at best. I had the Pastitcio, which was tastless and also gooey. The server paid no attention to us, and service was like a slug waiting for the right time to cross I-5 during rush hour.

Life is precious. This place is a waste of time, money and sanity.

This was my first try at Greek in Seattle and I loved it. I had to go 2 times a week for 3 weeks until I moved away. Let's see...the Avgalemeno Soup is great! The Horatiki Salad is fresh and flavorful. The special menu items you can only find there because its family owned and operated are outstanding. LOVE IT!

I have eaten at Yanni's several times and the food has been excellent every time. This is truly a "family" restaurant (just like in the movie Big fat Greek wedding). I remember when I was brought the wrong dish and was told "I'll have my dad make you up something else".

I haven't had a chance to try everything on the menu and I tend to stick to the things that I know I like. My favorite appetizer is Fasolia Yagentes (giant Greek beans). These are like big lima beans and I love them -- served with warm pita bread.

The chicken souvlaka is very tasty; nicely cooked meat, not overly spiced.

The spanikopita is wonderful; and as someone else said the potatoes have a lemony flavor and you look forward to them.

Everything is prepared to order and as others have stated, the service can be slow.

If you give yourself a couple of hours for a nice leisurely dinner then I'm sure that you'll really enjoy it. If you're in a hurry you're going to be frustrated and disappointed.

The Greeks come together to eat and they don't rush through their meals; in true greek style this restaurant reflects that.

They often have special performances on Saturday night.

I live in the neighborhood and head for Yanni's at least once a week. The service is always exceptionally friendly, and the food is always phenomenal! The Chicken Skaras is just wonderful, nicely flavored and juicy. The potatoes that come with the dish have a terrific lemony flavor to them ~ undescribable, but I always look forward to them! Their chicken, lemon and rice soup is one of my stand-bys, I always enjoy the fresh flavors. Highly recommended!!!!!!!

Wondeful experience! We went on a Saturday with out reservations and had to wait for our table but it was truley worth the wait. We lucked out and picked the night when they had the belly dancer, wow what fun.....the whole restaurant was dancing! We started off with the Kalamari appetizer and Feta Fournou and we were glad we did, our meal took sometime to get to our table. Our wait person was very attentive and informed us everything was fresh and made to order, somethings are worth the wait and this meal was fantastic. My husband had the Combination Plater and I had the Chicken Tavernas, we had so much food to take home but we still had to have desert.....the Galaktoboureko was to die for. We cannot wait to go with a group of friends.

I've been to Yanni's probably 5 or 6 times, and it's true, the service is very friendly but EXTREMELY slow! I usually go in a group of 3 or 4 and although I've never had to wait for a table, it usually takes 1.5-2 hours to get out of there. BUT, the food is so amazing that I just don't care how long it takes. The Chicken Krasati is my favorite dish, and we usually get the Spanikopita/Tyropitakia for an appetizer. It's definitely my favorite restaurant and I will be going back as often as possible. If you have the time, it's a great place to eat!

Stepping into Yanni's is a treat for all the senses. The decor is delightfully over-the-top, including a 3D Akropolis and cloud-strewn skies. The wait staff is attentive, very friendly, and just plain fun. And the food is beyond delicious. Don't miss the Avgolemono soup or the tzatziki!

It doesn't look it--at all--but Yanni's has great Greek food. Really great. They have a beautiful avgolomeno soup, and while the decor is definitely on the southern side of kitsch, you'll find it bearable when you start in on your souvlaki. Or moussaka. Or gyro. Yanni's is a great dining experience!

I've only been there once, but I won't go again. I was part of a group of 8, we arrived seperately and only the first two were ever given menus (despite asking for them repeatedly). We finally stole them from the stack with the hostess. Each course took almost an hour before it was served. It was probably some of the worst service I've ever had but they still added an eighteen percent tip to the bill.

Yanni's is exactly what a neighborhood restaurant should be: friendly, homey, unpretentious, and delicious. If you live within a block of the restaurant you can smell the garlic chicken spit roasting every evening and it's very difficult to refuse. Try to flaky and flavorful spanikopita, the huge portions of authentic gyros, or of course, the succulent garlic chicken, packed with melt in your mouth flavor. Even if you don't live nearby, take a trip and try it out. I garuntee you'll consider moving closer to Greenwood.
