I had been told about DrFarris by a good friend. My little sweetie Max,(a malltipoo) had an ear infection that just would NOT go away!
And with him only weighing in at a tremendous 11lbs, to see him in constant pain, cranky, snapping at everyone. Crying when he scratched his ear......I had been told it was an allergy, ear mites.....you name it. But when I took him to Dr. Farris, it ended up being a Staff infection! He said he could have just got it from dirty bath water in his ear, or simply stepping on poo and scratching his ear and it getting in his ear! I couldn't believe it!
After a round of steroids for the inflamation and antibiotics as well as drops for itching, my little sweetheart is back!
Plus the rustic character of the clinic, pleasant and relaxed staff, has made this a new home for my much loved Max as well as my 3 kitties!

I have been taking my pets to this clinic for the past 18 years and have had wonderful service. What I like most about Dr. Farris is that he doesn't give you false hope when your pet is terminally ill and suck all the money out of you with last ditch efforts to extend your pets life. We recently had one of our dogs that got cancer and was suffering. He let us make the decision of when we wanted to put him down so that he wasn't suffering any more. He was very compassionate and caring and didn't charge us an arm and a leg. We tried a different doctor once when we lived in Tacoma and our dog kept getting feverish and joint swelling. They kept him in the animal hospital for 3 days charged me over $600 and then 6 months later he got so bad we had to take him to the emergency animal hospital in tacoma where they told us he had a blood disease of some sort and we had to put him down. If the other vet would have done their job we wouldn't have had a $600 bill and a suffering dog for 6 months. Dr. Farris is a great doctor.

I took my 6 month old puppy in to get her fixed & get her microchipped for a trip to Europe. I also asked to receptionist to check out her hips because I thought she might be showing signs of early hip displacia (SP?).When we went to pick her up, Dr.Farris said he hadn't looked at her hips but that she probably just sits & walks funny...Hmm, hopefully he was right WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT HER. They told us not to worry about the official paperwork to get her into Europe, because they had done it wrong. I tried to tell them that if the paperwork was not filled out correctly, she would go into quarantine. They just blew me off and told me she'd be fine. Then, they scooted her out the back door, heavily drugged and closed shop. NO paperwork, NO information on how to take care of her at ALL, after she'd just had surgery! When we got home we noticed they'd clipped 2 of her nails TO THE VEIN & there was blood on her feet from it. Despite the low price, I'd NEVER BRING MY ANIMALS THERE EVERY AGAIN! Pay a higher price for better care!

Dr. Farris has such a way with animals. You hear the stories about people coming to Dr. Farris after they were told by another vet "there is nothing we can do". And He can, it is his gift to heal and help. It's a great experience for every one. We are charmed by the clinic and greeted by the animals that live there. Many of those animals over the years were abandoned and Dr. Farris took them in. Dr. Farris and His staff are very committed and kind.
It's like another world to me. My favorite time there is in the summer. All the tree shade and the beautiful landscape of the flowers, the doves cooing and peacocks cawing. The imperfect beauty is breathtaking to me. That is why I got married there. The clinic is my favorite memory and my longest memory. I'm glad I was able to share all that with my 2 little boys. I will never forget.
I'm Dr. Farris' youngest daughter and I am very proud of my dad and his accomplishments. And the fire that destroyed the clinic yesterday can't take any of that away from me. He will be back soon!

When we got 2 month-old kittens a couple of years ago, we decided to try the veterinary clinic in the Victorian house on Stewart that I've heard about since I was in High School ( a very long time ). People I know, including my parents, have been saying nothing but good things about Dr. Farris. We took our kittens in and were very surprised by the calm, homelike atmosphere. The reception area was like being in your own living room ( if you live in a tidy victorian farmhouse ) and it seemed like all the pet owners were just as interested in our pets as they were their own.
Dr. Farris and his staff have taken care of our pets with a care that suggests that our cats are THEIR cats, and they want nothing but the best for them. Our Vet Bills have always been very reasonable and when we need info, they always have the full records quickly available.
This last is now VERY IMPORTANT because just last night the clinic/house was burned down by what looks to be a break-in arsonist. Since Farris Veterinary has seen to it that we were ALWAYS given fresh copies of our pets' medical records at each visit, we can easily walk into another Veterinary clinic and be right up-to-date with Pet Care. But believe me, when The Farris family gets this sorted out and re-opens for business, we'll be in line the first day to help them establish the new clinic.

The first experience I had at Farris was wonderful so when we moved into the area I took my dog there. The minute I walked in, an off-leash dog bit me. The receptionist finished her phone conversation while I fended the dog off myself and my dog. The incident was never acknowledged. My dog was taken and with no further explanation I was told to pick him up later that day. When I arrived to pick him up, to my shock he'd been anesthetized for the procedure and additionally seven teeth had been removed. No one explained that this was going to happen, or even that it might be a possibility. All of a sudden, the $50 bill I had been quoted, ballooned to $250. I sent them a complaint letter detailing the incident and requesting that they fax me my dog's records at their earliest convenience, which they would have recieved three days ago at the latest. To date there has been no response. Poor service, very poor ethics.

I have been bringing my animals to Farris for over 20 years and have never been dissatisfied with his care. I have tried other clinics since I moved farther south, but find the 20+ mile trip well worth it. I trust him completely with my pets.

Located in downtown Puyallup, the cozy, old country farm-feel welcomes you in to this vet clinic where the staff and doctor recognize you and your pet and make you feel like family. They are all so friendly.
From the outside this doesnt look like your typical animal hospital. They are housed in an old farm-style home with horse pastures out back. If you are looking for a family doctor for your pet, give them a call!
