Bengal Tiger is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Seattle. I really like their Saag Paneer and Samosas.
The food is reasonably priced and the wait staff is efficient and courteous, although they can be a bit overzealous in their attempts to get you to vote for them as the best Indian restaurant on nwsource.com (they often win, one doesn't have to wonder why).
The best is their lunch buffet, which is a little small, but still gives you the opportunity to try a lot of different dishes for a very reasonable price.

The food here has been consistently good! If you want good Indian/South Asian food, this is the place (trust me, I've tried all the others in the neighborhood!).

Bengal Tiger is a great Indian restaurant in the Roosevelt neighborhood. I used to eat there every single Sunday for lunch, but my love for cooking has made my trips less frequent. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, especially if you go for the lunch buffet! They have great vegetarian options and the servers are friendly. My only complaint is that the servers get a little pushy during the time of the year when they NWSource voting is happening. They asked us multiple times to vote for them and it was getting annoying. Overall though, we love this place! A must-visit!

I've eaten at Bengal Tiger about 10 times and have had an excellent meal every time. The dishes are spiced to perfection, fresh veggies, sublime sauces. The maitre'd always gives me a cup of mulligatawny soup to warm up, yum!!!! If you are looking for a great meal in North Seattle,
you can count on Bengal Tiger.

I always go there for Buffet. Never disappointed. Lamb curry is superb. Tandori chickens are fresh. Butter chicken curry tastes good. Vegi dishes are awsome and lots of varieties.I became vegi lover after going this restaurant. Students get discounts on buffet for price of $5.95. Great atmosphere for friends and family.
Pros: Foods are fresh. Fast services. Great Price.

Worst Indian Food Everrr
by aarthiasdad
I am Indian and I regularly have Indian food outside. So, believe me, when I say that the food here was really bad. First, the papaddums that they serve in the beginning of each meal are stale, old ones that should not be eaten. I would let that pass as it is complimentary. I ate their veggie pakoras and Vegetarian Curry Bazaar. The rice that came along with it is the worst kind you can find. I dont think any other Indian restaurant serves this worse a rice! The curry was hot but that was the only taste (if I can call that 'taste'). The food lacked complete flavor. I have had food close to 15 Indian restaurants here and have never felt so strongly about the food. The waitress was nice though. Service was prompt and you would have no trouble parking near by.
Pros: Hospitality, Parking
Cons: Bad food

Great Indian / Bengali place to eat...
by skagittulip
We were on our trip to Skagit Valley from Boise for the Tulip festival. We stopped at this restaurant based on review. The young brother of the owner was managing at that time. It was late afternoon. He treated us royally and he himself cooked. Really liked the place. We stopped again on our way back. We will be there again. We highly recommend the place.

I just moved from London where the Indian is superb! Bengal Tiger would be right there in the running if it was in London! It's great, reasonably priced and has great service. Both their lunch buffet and dinner are super.

Best mango chicken EVER!!!
by MariellaB
So i never heard about the bengal tiger until a close friend of mine started to work there. With that being said I had to stop in and try something off the menu. The owner of the restaurant is soo friendly and welcomes everyone. He asked me if I wanted to try something and so I did. I tried the mango chicken and OH MY GOD its amazing!!! along with the naan and the rice. I would recommend this dish to anyone who likes a tangy kind of flavor. Other great things to try include, the mango lassi and mango ice cream. Overall I give this place an A++

One of Seattle's Favorites
by johncleaver
Some of the best - if not the best Indian food / restaurant in the city - one of the best lunch deals in the city as well - $7.99 for their lunch buffet. Best Indian lunch buffet I've experienced. Packed at dinner for a very good reason...one of Seattle's favorites...
Pros: overall value and tasty, tasty food
Cons: i like their atmosphere, but some don't...

Tasty food, friendly service
by sandrabyrd
Our family drove out of our way to come here for dinner - drawn by the free papadums offered at the begining of the meal as well as the good reviews. The papadums and their chutneys lived up to our hopes, and our entrees were good, too. Delicious sweet lassi. Servers were attentive and helpful and ran out after us when we forgot our to go bag.
Pros: Unusual papadum offerings, good food

Best Buffett
by TheToughCritic
Never been a big fan of Indian food, but my mind was changed yesterday when I visited Bengal Tiger in Green Lake. Their lunch buffet was amazing, with a varied selection and food for all types. The blend of spices and seasonings in their curry sauce savors in your mouth for the entire day, and only makes you want to come back again.
A++++!

Best Tasting Indian Food. Very good customer service. Owner takes pride in service.
by ashish_k_gupta
One of the best places to have Indian food in Seattle. The flavor is so authentically Indian. I had an opportunity to speak to the owner, who is also the head chef... and prepares all of the entrees by himself. He takes great pride in his culinary skills. The service at the restaurant is awesome too. In terms of the price, it is no more expensive than most of the other Indian restaurants.

Butter Butter Butter Chicken...MMMMM!
by choirboy_lap
I went here yesterday for the lunch buffet, and can't believe I forgot about how much I used to come here when I lived in the U district! This really is my favorite butter chicken in Seattle. I am not extremely adventurous but I also had some tandori chicket and smaller samples of the lamb and vegetable dishes. The owner actually walked me throught the buffet and told me what was in everything. He also eagerly greeted others that came in. It's nice to see some pride in a place like that. It was a great experience and I can see why they keep winning on NWSource for peoples picks.

Frequent visitor no more!
by JoshuaM
I must say, it is a treat when my family and I go to Bengal tiger for our family dinners. They have been very caring the service has always been excellent. However our recent trip has left us desiring otherwise. I had ordered the sheesh kabob per recommendation from the owner himself. However when I received my food, the kabob was clearly undercooked and portions of it were completely raw! Just because I frequent the restaurant so much I remained calm and requested the server to return my dish to the kitchen to have the kabob recooked. My wife's tandoori lamb was enjoyable to her for the most part. Until she started choking and pulled out what appeared to be a plastic wrap from her throat. I do not understand how such an object will find its way in the food at this restaurant but one thing is for certain, the reputation of this restaurant has been tarnished in my eyes. Even more ridiculous, the server never returned my food and we sat for an hour as neither my wife's dish nor mine ever came back. The servers were continually apologetic but there appeared to be something amidst. We decided to forego this whole mess and left a large tip for the servers for their excellent service, the restaurant however deserves no proportion of such tip!
Pros: Amazing service
Cons: Ridiculous restaurant and sanitation issues with food

Amazing service and hands down the best Indian food in Seattle !!
by spankymouse
OK first of all the owner of Bengal is great, he always comes to our table and makes sure we are happy and need for nothing!! The service between him and his staff is 5 star. The food is perfection!! We love it so much and have so much faith in Muhammad that we let him just bring us food, and the result is mind-blowing!! His food is so full of flavor and My boyfriend and I love trying new things and Muhammad delivers!! ( We always go home with plenty of food too, the servings are large )
This last time we had Onion Bhaji & Samosas for an appetizer, the lamb in the samosas is so tender perfect start to what is about to be a truly fabulous dinner. The Naan bread here is great - try the stuffed ones you will be surprised! ...yummi ....Dinner .....We start with a little gem called Mango Wala with prawns is spicy and yet not so spice you cant still taste the prawn its a perfect balance of spicy flavor and mango !! Next up is Achar Wala in lamb I am not a big fan of lamb but this was so good I was really impressed the flavor is like fireworks in your mouth. Last but not least is the Shahi Paneer - this homemade cheese is a classic Indian dish but its my favorite I cant get enough of it!! .......
Basically Its my opinion that this restaurant is wonderful!! If your new to trying Indian food or already a fan Bengal Tiger is 5 stars and a sure winner....the price is right and the service cant be beat !!
Pros: Amazing food and service for a good price
Cons: Street parking

Today is Monday, April 14, bengali's new year-poila boishak. This is our second visit to Bengal tiger. But in only two visits, Saluddin bhai or rather Muhammad for all, has tied up in a cordial relationship. He has a very warm heart with good sense of hospitality. Today, we went to Bengal Tiger to taste some 'homemade dishes' & it was worth going there. The fish fry, macher jhol(fish curry) & at the end the mango pudding with coconut milk was the best. You all shall be surprised to know that we just called him yesterday to say that we want to eat whatever he would like to serve us & the result was 'mind blowing' . Well prepared, well served & above all the courteous nature of Saluudin bhai is the best combination you shall have beyond your house.

Fantastic Food, Great service!
by acobbs1010
I am a new fan of this place. I have been 5 times in the past month. Their food has so much flavor and they always listen when you tell them how spicy you want your dishes. The butter chicken, tikki masala, and rogan josh are incredible. Their naan bread is perfection (especially garlic). They have always been super friendly and have great customer service ever since our first visit. My only complaint would be that they don't always use the best quality of chicken meat for their dishes. But it still tastes good and I still eat every bite. The prices are reasonable and comparible to what you would find at othe indian restaurants around seattle. To sum it up, I love Bengal Tiger!

i've become a regular - partly cuz its conveniently close by where i live - but also cuz its a pleasant place with good food - especially since theyve brightened up the decor - surprising what a positive effect that has on dining --- i frequently take in the all you can eat buffet which always has east indias greatest contribution to the world cuisine - tandoori chicken - and generally includes a moist lamb choice and a tasty eggplant choice that I like alot --- but - i must say that the dinner - where i can pick from the large menu selection - is an even better experience - of course it seems more personal that way --- this thriving restaurant has been here a long time - theres a reason for that

I don't say that lightly. For $7.95 you get the best buffet in the entire city. This is seriously good East Indian Food - and it's only $7.95. I get a couple plates at lunch - one will do most people fine. Great food. High quality ingredients and preparation. I don't know how they do it. Really a treat!
Pros: best value I've seen in the city
Cons: Not exactly in the heart of the city

Good Stuff
by Helloworld101
When i travelled to Seattle from out of town i did some research on the net for some good indian food. I saw some good reviews for Bengal Tiger and decided to visit the place for dinner. I must saw that i was very happy that i decided to come here. The owner is very gracious and took time and helped be with the order. I was happy to note that he also allowed me to make some changes in the dishes per my liking :-) Overall the menu is good the food is tasty and flavourful. I loved the Soup, Fish appetizer, bread was hot and soft, the Samosa's were excellent with the 3 different chutney's provided. I found the lamb to be a little tough for my liking. Overall a sumptious & pleasing meal. Would recommend this place for nice Samosa's Fish & breads. The service was ok and it could improve although the owner really makes its a point to make sure you are taken care off. Make sure you let them know the level of spice for your liking.
Pros: Excellent appetizers, tasteful curries, nice breads, Gracious owner
Cons: Staff service can improve, Interiors are dull can be made brighter

Best Indian Food
by emeralred
Muhammad is amazing! He is gracious, generous and warm. He treats us like a part of his family! By the second time we came in to his restaurant he knew both of our names. "Eric.....Heather" he says. "Welcome back. Nice to see you." What a pleasure to go to a restaurant that truly cares and respects there customers. You won't find another place like this one! The Mango Walla and the Lamb Saag are stellar! The Samosa plate is wonderful! His chutneys are unbelievable. I wish I could eat there every day. There isn't a bad item on the menu. Every choice is a win! The thought of any one of Muhammad dishes makes my mouth water. Magnifique! We love him! His staff is always on the move. They all work as a team to make sure every little detail of your dining experience has been taken care of. You will never have an empty glass of water in this restaurant! Everyone is so friendly, efficient and eager to please. To top it off, Bengal Tiger is one of the few family friendly places to eat in Seattle. It is also one of the only places that my 4yr old will eat. I have never had better Indian food than Bengal Tiger. I refuse to go to another Indian restaurant. When you've found perfection, why stray. Thank you Bengal Tiger. You're the best!
Pros: The Service, Muhammad and Mango Walla
Cons: I eat to much!

Muhammed is a legend. As the creator of the various walas, he deserves a place in Seattle lore, along with Tom Douglas, Sean Kemp, and Edgar Martinez.
The mango and garlic walas are the best Indian dishes I've ever had. The samosas are also aces. Sag paneer and mulligatawny soup are delicious.
You really should go to the Bengal Tiger. Right now. See you there.
Pros: Delicious food, good service, Muhammed
Cons: I always eat too much

NWSource's top pick
by arshoh
I?ve been to many Indian Restaurants around Seattle area. Bengal Tiger so far has been my favorite. They won the ww w nwsource com best Indian Cousin contest twice for 2006 and 07. What I like the most about Bengal Tiger is that they use fresh vegetables. Most other restaurants use frozen vegetables. I have many favorite dishes from their menu. I like their mussels and the Buhna curry the most. Also their Mango curry is very good as well. I have been also very pleased with their service. Very friendly stuff. I can go on and on. Great ambiance. Looks like they just remodeled their place. Truely a must try place.
Pros: 2 thumbs up
Cons: They keep running out of my favorte dessert, "Rasmalai"

First time I've really enjoyed Indian food
by mle_fo
I've had Indian food a few different times before and had never cared for it...but my boyfriend and I decided to go to Bengal Tiger and it was so good! When I mentioned the restaurant to my friend the next night, she had told me it was her favorite Indian food place. So when my friend and I went to BT for dinner (which was my 2nd time in a week after I discovered it) Muhammed introduced himself. He seems so sweet. He told us next time we come in, we'll have to ask for him and he'll make us a dish that isn't on the menu. I'm excited! I'll definitely be telling my friends about BT.

"Bengal Tiger" has replaced my beloved "Sahib" in Edmonds
by ericfromedmonds
I found this place after my long-time favorite curry place up in Edmonds, "Sahib," was unexpectedly closed down last summer due to rent overload. Nearly suicidal with "curry withdrawal syndrome," I got on the Web and searched for other Indian places which might help satisfy my curry addiction. I tried a few other places but, compared to my beloved "Sahib" (which was superb, btw) they left me cold. Then I came here to BT in summer of '07 and haven't bothered looking for any other curry place. I can really only comment on the lunch buffet, as that is the only thing I'm interested in. The food is very good - tasty, spicy, good variety, authentic, filling - the price is right, and the comfortable coziness of the place just feels so "right on." They've remodeled and redecorated, and it's even nicer now than when I first came here. I like how the basmati rice is always cooked to a nice plumpness - never dry or hard like in other places. I like how the vegetables and potatoes are cooked to perfection (I hate undercooked potatoes!). The meats are always tender, and there is always enough daily variety amongst the dishes and sauces to make it worth eating here every single day of the week. I even ate here last night - Thanksgiving dinner, 2007 - and they had a whole turkey cooked in mango curry sauce! The booth tables are very comfortable, they have new glass/silverware, and a beautiful marble-edged hot-table for the buffet. The bathroom is very clean/brightly lighted, and the sink even has real hot water! BTW, to the critic who found "foreign objects" in his food, he probably found remnants of hard spices, e.g. a piece of cinnamon stick or cardomom pod. Hey, it happens. And they've put a divider up by the entry door, so there should be no problem with cold drafts blowing on anyone's table or food. Also, I've never found it to be overly warm in the place. My only complaint is that the aforementioned "Sahib" buffet included free chai, mango mousse, and fresh fruit slices.
Pros: Food, friendliness of staff, coziness, decor, bathrooms
Cons: Nothing really, just that it's a long drive from Edmonds!

Great Buffet a restaurant with integrity
by wcteskey
Newly renovated this restaurant used to be as dark as a cave and has now come into the light. The result is a light and airy restaurant with what you could call a friendly decor. Looks can be deceiving however that is not the case in this restaurant. The food is very fine. Spicing interesting and always consistently good. In fact I have never chosen a dish (and there is a lot of variation on the menu) which is not fine and interestingly spiced. For value you can try the buffet which is 7.95 on weekdays and 8.95 on weekends at noon. This is a great treat and features a good variety of some of their very good dishes. Also now they have a 14.95 evening buffet on Monday and Tuesday with an elite selection of food. I have not tried it yet but it seems to be a very wise choice for dinner and allows you to sample some of the more exotic dishes. This one I believe is even a better value.
I must confess I have found the least expensive great meal hybrid. From the bengal tiger the naan (cauliflower) and the three dips that come with it. And then I go the QFC just above and get a piece of
fried chicken breast (2.29) and I have a great meal for under 6.50. However for a just a little more the
Saag Wala is an incredible dish for any bargain hunter and I highly recommend it. Well that is
all I have to say today. Please drop by. I am William and you can find me at Teddy's around the corner watching sports.
William
Pros: Spicing price and great personal service.
Cons: Parking can be a little challenging

Best Indian food around
by metroninja
There really is no middle ground in seattle for Indian food, either it's great or it's awful. Out of the handful of places around seattle that are actually good Bengal Tiger is my favorite. My girlfriend and I eat there at least once a week and have always had nothing but a stellar experience. The owner is one of the nicest guys ever, the food is consistently excellent and it is better then taste of India by far. They truly value their customers and frequently do anything to make them happy. Do yourself a favor and travel 5 blocks north instead of going to Taste of India for once, you won't regret it! Also, if your weary on indian food try their new buffet on Monday and Tuesdays after 5, the owner will happily come out and walk you through the foods, how their made and ensure your happy!
Pros: Best indian food around, Insanely nice weight staff

No need to go anywhere else!
by michelleintacoma
I am surprised by some of the reviews that give Bengal Tiger less than 5 stars. Maybe those people went to the restaurant on an off-night, but that has NEVER happened to us. When we lived in Green Lake, before we moved to Tacoma, we ate here every Friday night. I have eaten Indian all over the U.S. and this place is by far the BEST out there. Muhammed, the owner, is the nicest man around and he's an incredible cook. The Naan is perfect every time and the Chicken Tikka Masala and Prawn Garlic Walla are incredibly flavorful! The service is always fast and the staff is very friendly. Now that we live south, we drive up once a month from Tacoma to eat here. Taste of India has nothing on this place! There is no need to eat anywhere else.

Best Indian food on planet Earth
by sasquatch2012
Bengal Tiger is by far the most consistently excellent Indian food around. We are always seated promptly, always greeted with smiles, and above all the food is flavorful and delicious. Very, very vegetarian friendly. Ambience is also great with a relaxed atmosphere and usually some good ?ol traditional tavla and sitar on the speakers.
The Navrattan Korma, Mango Wala, (vegetarian) Tikka Masala, Vegetable Jalfrezie, Paratha and Naan all exceed the normal ?above-average? Indian food. We?ve probably had quite a few more items but those stick out as particularly good.
I should note that my girlfriend tries the paratha at every Indian restaurant we go to, and this is her favorite of all-time (very flaky, buttery and light).
If you had enough time to go to one restaurant in Seattle I would say go to Bengal Tiger (then if you?ve got time straight to Mighty-O?s).
Pros: Incredible food, friendly service, reliable, easy parking
Cons: sometimes a bit slow, but worth the wait!

by emilyok
I love Bengal Tiger! I've been going there for 6 years now, and their food and service are still amazing. Anything that ends in wala is delicious, but then, everything I've tried there is wonderful. Don't forget the nan for dipping! The only word of caution is that if you order a meat dish, it will not have any vegetables. I usually order a veggie dish because of this, or split a meat and a veggie dish with someone. Either way, this place is hard to beat!
Pros: so very tasty
Cons: meat dishes are meat only

We're lucky to have this restaurant in Seattle
by dentmaron
After eating at Bengal Tiger for years, I'm finally writing a review. In my opinion, BT is the best Indian restaurant in Seattle, hands down. It is owned by a genuine chef with great experience, who is always experimenting to make the dishes better. The ingredients seem always to be top quality. One can choose from a very large number of different, interesting dishes. In other words, this is a destination restaurant, not a typical neighborhood one, and definitely not a one-note one. The only downside to BT is that the food is so good that you will be tempted to eat too much of it. I am always impressed with the number of long-time devotes of Chef Mohammed who keep coming back. Once you've tasted excellent Indian food with genuinely complex flavors, you won't be able to go back to where you've been eating before.
Pros: Excellent food, Genuine chef

This has become my favorite restaurant ever. The food is killer, and the owner, Mohammed, has to be the nicest man walking this earth! So, back to the food....the sauces are perfect. Bengal Tiger is probably the Indian restaurant I most visit in Seattle. The food is great, and there is a lot of selection (many dishes that I haven't see elsewhere). Also, you usually get served a free bowl of soup right when you get there!
The ambiance is also nice. It is usually quiet. The service is also good. I would highly recommend Bengal Tiger if you are in the area and are craving Indian food.
Pros: Selection, Food, Ambiance

Since finding this place, I have been back monthly. I have never been disappointed. These dishes are so good that I often order only the vegetarian dishes and never miss meat. My favorite is the Garlic Zucchini! Don't mistake me though. The meat dishes are also meltingly delicious. Try the Mango Chicken. Go! You have not had great Seattle Indian food until you do.

Smashing sauces
by jfelts
What we have here is one of the best Indian restuarants in Seattle, and I've tasted nearly all of them. The hallmark is their sauces, which are so flavorful that we leave the plate squeaking clean. Try the lamb mango wala, what a spectacular brown sauce! The byrani is a little moist for my taste, and not as richly flavored as I would like, a quibble. The chicken meat was very cleanly prepared, always a good sign of a thoughtful kitchen. A nice light touch with the pecora. First rate all around, every dish so far was special.
Pros: sauces, meats, everything else
Cons: it's not next door, to me!

My girlfriend and I have been dining at Bengal Tiger for a while. The food is absolutely amazing! Our list of favorite dishes grows with every visit. Unsure of what to try? Owner Muhammad will gladly suggest one of his tasty specialties. We suggest the mango wala...words cannot begin to describe it! Trust me, Bengal Tiger is a restaurant you don't want to pass by.
