A Good Yarn  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Tony D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,230

My wife sent me into Stitches to find some purple embroidery thread. Despite my initial reservations, I found a selection of thread that was as fun to browse as the paints for my gaming models. You can take sewing and knitting classes here, and even hang out on Sunday afternoons with your various projects and get assistance from other needle-workers. Unlike other fabric stores in Seattle, you can find leather spikes accessories next to the yards of eyelet lace.

PROS: my wife learned to sew here
CONS: parking is hard to find

Perfect Neighborhood Store  5 Star Rating - World class

By Shannon P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,080

For being a tiny shop, I rarely leave empty handed. They have all the little things you would need plus a pretty good selection of fabric. They also have fun fur and some crazy designs that you could find at a Captiol Hill store like itself. Plus, they offer sewing classes for all levels-- but get on the waiting list now because they are full for at least a few months.

Super unique fabrics, notions, and other crafty items!  5 Star Rating - World class

By Sara G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 1,920

I was so curious when I saw Stitches first open on Pine St. in Capitol Hill. I am an avid knitter, and also just having bought a sewing machine, I was thrilled at their selection. They have the weirdest and prettiest fabric I have ever seen, it kicks the booties of regular fabric stores! As their website says, "Seattle's alternative to chain fabric stores!". This is so true.

There are also some really cool things like fun embroidery kits, purse handles, and pretty yarns. They also have wildly popular garment construction and knitting classes at the shop, which I found book up quickly. If all this wasn't enough, the super nice staff (which on my visits has been just one woman, the owner Amy, who is sweet and helpful) make shopping here a happy time.

PROS: Great unique fabric, yarns, and other notions. Super friendly and helpful staff.
CONS: No negatives, I've alwas had good experiences shopping here.
