I had been a customer of Music 6000 through the span of about 15 years, when I finally decided that I had had my fill. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it came as a difficult decision. The business is embraced locally with great enthusiasm. Often people speak about their experiences in that store as if they had developed very intimate relationships with the sales staff and the owners. I wanted to be part of that culture.

However, when I reflect on the quantity of money I have spent in their store, and the consistency with which I have purchased and rented from them, all the while enduring their abusive treatment toward me, I conclude that they are not sufficiently interested in earning my business.

Case in point:

As a guitarist I find that the purchase of picks is inconvenient. I prefer to buy them in bulk, so that I can avoid driving in to town for a couple of cheap pieces of plastic. Nonetheless, when I attempted to purchase boxes of picks from M6K, I was run around, and the order was never made.

Through their Web site I have sent e-mails to the store asking questions about equipment they sold. None were ever answered.

I had the duty to arrange for a PA when my band was in preparation for a gig. I rented the equipment, signed their agreement which indicated that I needed to return the pieces by 6PM on the following business day. To meet the objective, I had to return the equipment after I completed a shift at my day job. This put my arrival time at 5:40PM. But, the store had already closed for the day.

I returned the following business day, again after my shift. This time, they were open, and I was able to return the equipment. The salesman was indignant, and he indicated that I might not be able to rent from them since I "f***ed it up" this time.

How often, and how severely disrespectful does a salesman have to become before a line is drawn? I contend that it was long before the vulgarity came out.

PROS: Good variety, quality of stock
CONS: Disrespectful, arrogant
