This place is just unbelievable! The ambiance is electric; you can't help but get excited about hiking or kayaking or playing in the snow when you walk in. The associates are helpful, too. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 is because it's always crowded when I go there and the prices are a bit steep for my budget. If you love this store but can't afford the prices, try Outdoor Emporium on 4th. Their store isn't as impressive as REI's but they have a lot of stuff at a great price.

I'm a hiker and this is where I get my food, equipment, boots, and whatever else I need for a trip. They carry everything one could possibly need in a store that is decorated for the outdoors lover.

REI has great stuff and the climbing Pinnacle is a must for visitors. If you are able to get to the top, you will have a great view of downtown Seattle. REI has high quality outdoor gear and excellent customer service. The staff is very knowledgeable in each department. They have great hiking maps!

REI is an experience to visit, but come with a credit card because there is so much to buy and it is not cheap. They really know the outdoors, camping, skiing, climbing, kayaking, whatever you are into you can find all the best gear for your thing. They have a rock climbing wall, free films, a coffee bar, and even an eatery, as well as all the supplies you need. Plus, you can become a member since it is a co-op. Members receive dividend checks once a year. I usually feel tired after shopping here, it is a little overwhelming. But they have good quality as long as you can afford it.

If you want a place to go for all different types of recreational equipment, rei is the place to be! They have it all and you can rent equipment there as well. The prices are competitive with other similar establishments. They have some terrific sales, one being their "garage sale". They have rock bottom prices on everything from top of the line hiking boots to sleeping bags and tents. This is a great place to go and the staff is knowledgeable.

If you are new to REI, be prepared to spend a long time at this store. The selection is so vast with 2 large floors of all the outdoor equipment you could ever hope to see in one place. As a parent, I appreciated the children's play area on the top floor. The staff is very knowledgeble and helpful.
If you drive to REI and park in their garage be prepared for some extremely tight parking spaces. This is not designed for the SUV crowd. Don't forget to check out the bottom floor where there is a rack of "returned" items at rock bottom prices.

What to say about REI Seatte? Wow! This is the place for an outdoors person to spend some serious time! They have everything that you can think of under the sun. Huge selection of backpacks, clothing, bikes, kayaks, backpacking gear, and books. We also attend some of the classes they hold there. Take a day and go browsing!

I use to drive over an hour just to hang out here. I've purchased a lot of gear at this store. They have everything and you can test it all out before hand. The staff know their products. Plus the free standing climbing wall is free if you're a member and... who isn't a member? If you're visiting the Northwest stop by it's just a cool place to be. If you live in the Seattle area and don't know about it then you obviously don't participate in outdoor sports.

REI is great. Sure the prices can be a little more than at other places - but you definitely get what you pay for. Where else can you try out your mountain bike before you buy it? where else can you use the rock climbing gear before you buy it? And where else can you find such a knowledgable group of people? That's right the people in this store actually know about their product and are happy (and eager) to help you out.

REI's flagship store in Seattle is a mecca for outdoors equipment. If you have any question about what you need or which equipment suits you best, their staff is super knowledgable and always willing to explain things in detail. They have a huge selection of camping, hiking, athletic, kayaking, skiing, biking, clothing, shoes...the list is endless as is the fun you can have at REI!
PROS: Co-op, friendly staff, decent prices.
CONS:

I like REI, I mean who doesn't however I might
be the first person on here to say the prices
can be high. You can sometimes find the
same things in other places and for less money.
Granted REI is a great store to visit and there
are some really nice things but all in all, I think
its best to shop around.

If you live in the Northwest then you know REI because you've had to visit the superstore that has just about everything you need for outdoor sports. Sales are especially unbeatable. REI has changed though over the years. It's just not the same as when I was a kid. This store does have a lot of options, a mountain biking trail on premises to tryout mountain bikes, and a climbing rock--it's a pinnacle and it's in the entrance of the store.

The REI Flagship store puts all the rest to shame. Its a shopping experience. The building was innovative when built, and still looks cool inside and out. The climbing rock is fun for every one. The store offers a great variety of products, and the sales staff is knowledgeable because theyve actually done the activities their products are used for.
