Swanson's Nursery

by Lindsay S.

Swanson's has one of the greatest plant selections in the city and the folks that work there are quite knowledgeable and helpful. The information desk is fabulous for answering your gardening questions and guiding your purchases to fit your needs.

Nothing comes close!

by Bobbie V.

I have dealt with Swanson's for more than 25 years. I've bought at other well-known nurseries but the plant quality and selection and the staff's service and knowledge come up short in comparison. They stand behind their product, with a smile. They are a nursery without rival. Now that I live in NW Washington, 2 1/2 hr.s away, I still call them first with questions and prefer to travel the distance rather than take 2nd best for my annual HUGE planting spree. There's nothing up here to compare (I've looked). They are definitely a destination.

Great Selections

by Becky L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,031

Swansons Nursery has a huge selection of plants, trees, potteries and garden supplies. It is not far from I-5 and 85th Street, which is close my work. They also have the weekly specials which I'd love to go. Their price is sometimes a little higher than the competitors, but I buy plants when they are on sale during the weekly specials and most of the time I get myself a good deal.

Huge selection of plants but expensive and poor service

by Ruth W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,929

This nursery is one of the largest ones in the Seattle area. They carry one of the largest selections of plants. We came here in search of the perfect house plants for our home, and after waiting quite awhile, got a sales person to help us with choosing an appropriate plant. He was very helpful, but the cashier was extremely rude which left a bad taste in my mouth about the whole experience. When I asked her a simple question about where to find an appropriate fertilizer for my bamboo plant, she rolled her eyes at me and then proceeded to stalk back to the aisle where the bamboo fertilizers were and came back to the counter and slid the bottle of fertilizer towards me. I was kind of taken aback at the attitude I was given but at this point just wanted to get out of the place and made my purchase. I felt rather annoyed that I was making quite a big purchase on plants, pots, etc., but was being treated the way I was. Swansons has a great selection but obviously not very good customer service and the plants are rather expensive.

wide selection

by Weng K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 1,949

When I want to do gardening shopping, the first place I go is often Swansons. The nursery is not very big, nevertheless it carries a lot of high quality plants in vast varieties.

The September (fall) sale is an event I often look forward to, as shrubs and many plants are 40% off. I also like to take advantage of the bareroot sale in spring, because it is much easy to haul bareroot and dormant plants home.

A lot of the plants in my backyard are from Swanson and they are all very healthy and vigorous.

My gramps recommends this nursery

by Susanne C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,152

When my gramps was a young man he worked at a plant nursery and he has always been interested in plants and trees. Up until about 2 years ago Gramps was still living at the family farm and it is unbelievable to see how many wonderful plants, bushes, flowers and trees that he planted during his many happy years there. Swanson's Nursery has been there for gramps and he wanted me to let anyone who needs to shop for these items to make Swanson's their first and probably only stop. Gramps says that he has never had better luck with plants and trees from anywhere else.

Great

by Gerry O. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,436

Swanson's has been around Seattle for
a lot of years and it shows in their plants
and their service. They have a great
variety of garden goodies at a good
price.

One of the big nurseries in Seattle (along with Skye & Molbaks)

by Peter H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,579

Swansons, just north of Ballard, and a bit off the beaten path, is a huge, fully stocked nursery. It is on par with Skye (might be a touch bigger), and actually a little classier than Skye.

You want plants, seeds, trees, bushes, this is the place to come. I feel that their prices are higher than Skye, by a little, but they have high quality stuff.

This is the kind of place, where if you are a gardener you could spend a couple of hours just browsing, walking around, getting ideas and enjoying yourself.

They have classes here too. Follow 15th Ave NW up from Ballard, but when it bears right and becomes Holman, keep going straight. It'll be a bit up on your left.
