I drove here at 5pm on a Friday and they were closed for some reason. I was so bummed because I read so many great things about this place.

I will try it at some point, but it will have to be sometime in the future. I will call ahead.

"Pork, hot on the side, with a side spike", I yell as my mouth waters and my feet start freezing. I am Standing outside of Pecos Pit BBQ on First Ave S.

Most Seattleites have been or at least heard of Pecos Pit and I personally hadn't been there for over 4 years. The decision came, at lunch, after a meeting, with a non King County co-worker of mine, cash in hand we decided to go.

It was worth it and then some! Pecos pit has always been known to have great service, tender BBQ meats and a hot sauce that will make you sweat. None of that has changed, during my brief trip back, I was greeted and my order taken in the happy timely manner I remembered.

Waiting for my order, I worried what the drive back to the Eastside would do to my sandwich. 15 minutes later, my sandwich was still warm, and the meat still tender. The sauce that I had asked for on the side, was still secure in it's cup, and my hotlink was perfect. I have to say, that as far as BBQ sandwich goes, Pecos is top notch.

Never met anyone who has eaten here and not loved the food. Their BBQ truly is a standard few others can even come close to. But it's a lunch only spot, and if you're in too big a hurry you might be frustrated by the line that is almost always in front of the walk-up window.

After having regularly taken orders for employs in my Everett office headquartered business during the first 10 years of Pecos' existence, I have been in Nashville for the past 20 years,

I was so happly on to see last June 26, 2009, Ron and Dana are still serving up exactly the same exceptional bbq they were 20 years ago!

This is a 'family' crew that is truly committed to the best bbq and sausages in the world.

Had lunch at Pecos again today. The best pork sandwich I have had in a long time. Their BBQ sauce is outstanding. It is worth the wait in the long line and don't forget to "spike it".

Great place to pick up a bbq sandwhich. Located in an old gas station. Open limited hours and often a line up. A testimony to the great food and consistent quality.

It just tastes good. The sauce is good and I recommend 'spiking' it, which means adding a hotlink to your sandwich. You really can't go wrong by eating here.

If your in the mood for a sandwich, you cant do much better in Seattle than Pecos. Pulled pork and beef, or sliced beef, those are your choices. No indoor seating, cash only. Pure, Simple, I love it! Besides the sandwich, which is a hefty portion, you can order a hot link on the side (or on the sandwich) and bbq beans. One caveat, I love heat, I cook with Habaneros regularly, but I order medium here, and it is plenty spicy! Enough to feel it under your eyes. I stay away from the hot because the smoke and other spices are just too perfect to be lost on having a numb mouth. Toughest thing is choosing between the beef and the pork, so my wife and I usually get one of each and split them. If you finish a whole one, be ready for a nap!

Pecos Pit has a very simple menu and presentation, and they execute it flawlessly:
They serve sandwiches....
Your choice of meat: Pork or Beef
Your choice of cut: Sliced or "Pecos" (pulled/shredded)
Your choice of sauce: mild (never tried), medium (pretty spicy), hot (scared to try).
You can "spike" your sandwich with a pork sausage, or add a side of beans.

You can sit outside under a shady tree, or take it to-go (no indoor seating, however they are open year-round).

I usually get the sliced beef, medium. You can see the pink smoke ring around the edges of the slices. You can also see the wood-pile out back that they use for their smoking. The meat is very tender and has a great smoky flavor. The sauce has a kick, but it is not just heat...lots of flavor there too.

It can get busy on a nice day around lunch, but I have never waited more than 10 minutes to order and get my food. The service is very friendly (which is somewhat surprising considering how hectic it can get).

Made the trip solely because of the fantastic reviews. Not completely disappointed, but this is not by a long shot the best BBQ I've ever had. The main question I had was - Where's the flavor? Watery sauce somewhat reminiscent of Carolina BBQ, sans vinegar. Decent heat, but other than that, sadly lacking. The side spiked hot links however were fantastic!

I love Pecos Pit. I've been going for several years and Debra recognizes me on sight now. I get the pork medium hot with a spike. If you get it wrapped for dinner for an extra $.25, they separate bun, meat and sauce, which makes it nice if you only want to eat half for lunch and half for dinner. I normally get through 3/4 of a full sandwich before I'm totally stuffed. These folks have it down to a science, I don't think I've ever waited more than 10 minutes, even with a line and an order of 6 sandwiches. I don't like sweet or vinegary barbecue, but Pecos' sauce is neither and is delicious. Try if if you haven't yet!

I've been coming here since 1992 and I still love eating a Hot Pecos Beef, side spiked w/ beans more than anything else I've ever had. It is just amazing food and I'm so glad we've had them here all this time. With warm, friendly owners too - Pecos Rules!! Also you can buy big packs to take home and have your own Pecos party.

To the very few who have had negative things to say about Pecos you need to understand that there are many styles of BBQ out there. There is a big difference between not liking a particular style and doing a poor job representing that style. For what it's worth I've never heard a Texan tell me anything bad about Pecos. Texas is all about brisket and Pecos has got it down.

This place is quite the find. Finally a hot sauce that's actually hot. My mouth was burning off and I was loving every minute of it. I'd definitely return to this Seattle lunchtime hotspot located just a few blocks south of Safeco Field and Qwest Field. I'd be the perfect dining option for a pre-matinee game. Lack of parking and long line was solved with quick, simple service. Outdoor seating was ample, but I can see how it poses a problem in the winter months. Make sure you get a hot link and baked beans with whatever sandwich you order. You won't regret it.

Its too bad the Pecos Pit is only open at lunch time because their sandwiches are just indiscribable. Its worth the drive if you are down near Starbuck's headquarters to bop over and grab a bbq beef, pork or chicken sandwich. All are excellent.

I have been called, at both AT&T Wireless and elsewhere (where I used to work) the guru of BBQ. I think I've tried most of them .. and many in Texas as well. Is there any doubt that Pecos Pit is the best west of the Pecos? You might have to wait, seating can be cold, but hot DANG! That Q is GOOO OOOD! Dony'all wish you could take some into the M's games on a nice July evening? LADIES! How 'bout it!?!

Ordering at Pecos Pit
They've only got ~ 5 items on the menu but they're all really good ... the best part about the experience (other than the food) is ordering ... did you ever see the Seinfeld episode with the soup Nazi? ... well there's a special way of ordering your food at Pecos too.

To ensure that your order is fulfilled as efficiently and properly as possible, one should be prepared with "sandwich, sauce hotness level, quantity of sauce, sides, location of sides (if you're ordering a spicy sausage), & drink" in this order. My standard order is "Pecos beef (i.e. the shredded beef), hot sauce, sloppy, side spike, side of beans, and a Pepsi." What ever your order, you gotta say it fast because there's usually a fast moving lunch line that's all eager to get their grub.

I now live in OK, and let me tell you there is not a place in all of OK, that can come close to Pecos. Every time I come back home to seattle the first place after I leave the airport is to go to Pecos....
The best BBQ in the pacific northwest and Central USA.

There is nothing like taking a long lunch and driving to Pecos Pit from Bellevue in the spring or summer on a nice day. I love BBQ and they have the best quality meat available. The BBQ pork is the best. Also, for those on Atkins or the like, you can order the "dinner". They provide a healthy portion of meat, bun is separate so you can throw it away and a separate cup of BBQ sauce so you can put as much or as little as you want.

I love these sandwiches. I have stood in line for half an hour, in the snow to buy one. The flavor is awesome! The texture is inspiring. Don't try to kid yourself into believing you can actually eat one like a sandwich. This is "spork" food at its finest. Efficient staff, friendly faces, good food, low prices. Just can't be beat on a sunny day. (On a rainy day take it back to the office, but everyone there will ask why you didn't bring them one too.)

Look behind the shop. Even the wood is stacked neatly and clean. I go here before I visit my kids, anytime I get back to Seattle!

I LOVE the place. Besides the fact that the food is oh so tasty, they do a great job of getting your food to you FAAAST - great for us folks on a tight lunch schedule. My hubby (a native Texan who lived there his first 33 years) loves the place as well. He's not fond of coming into the city, but all I have to do is mention that we'll stop at Pecos Pit and he's there. Whoever said Texans would burn the place down is WRONG! Better than any place we've been to in Texas - less fat and grease in the meat. I like medium...get the HOT if you can handle it!

I apologise ahead of time: I KNOW how this sounds; condescending, pedantic as hell, arrogant. But the sorrowful fact is that, if you grew up in the South and ate BBQ regularly, THERE IS NO GREAT BBQ IN SEATTLE. I'm sick to death of everybody crowing about this place. People in Texas would burn the building down. In my home state, North Carolina, they'd just laugh at it and go elsewhere. Their meat is fatty and either over or undercooked and their buns are mass-produced, pasty crap. And the sauce? Puh-leeze! Nobody who knows what Southern or Tex-Mex BBQ actually tastes like would EVER recommend this.

Great meat flavors. Large sandwiches. Get the Pork and "Spike it." You will not be disappointed. Again the sauce, which is average and on the hot side, kills the meat flavor. Over the years the sauce has gotten hotter less flavorful.

Unfortunately, too many BBQ joints in the NW steam the meats and don't smoke them.

As mentioned go hungry!

Pecos' Pit is a great barbecue option for lunch. Their menu is simple and the sandwiches are smoky-red-hot delicious! If you mosey around back you'll see the real hickory & mesquite they use to smoke the beef, pork & chicken. And like we always say, "Don't Forget to Spike It!!" - they'll add a scrumptious smoked sausage to your sandwich. Try Pecos' Pit you'll love it!!

Pecos provides the tastiest beef and pork sandwiches that I have tried. They provide several levels of spiciness to their BBQ sauce and the taste is outstanding. Their accompanying sausage (just say "spike it") can't be beat. The staff is very firendly - no pressure to avoid offending the owner by not trying the hottest of their hottest sauces.

This is THE place for BBQ in Seattle. I've been going there for years, and the food is always the same, damn good!
I've taken 2 people from Texas there, and they were more than impressed.
People, good barbecue is crafted in the smoking of the meat, not the sauce.
Forget the schtick of Dixie's and head over to the Pit.
