The ONLY fish store

by Anonymous

These guys know everything. They're cool. And they have a respect for their fish which is evident in the way they handle the new comers and give advice for proper care. It's a great place to spend some time relaxing and looking at the collection of neat creatures.

Great Freshwater Aquarium Shop

by Anonymous

I absolutely love this place. They are and old fashioned store dedicated to their fish and the hobby. They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful and will only give you top notch info sometimes to their financial detriment. They will not sell you innapropriate fish for your set up. They have a great freshwater fish selection (no saltwater). Dont be fooled by the funky decor, they are the best. Unfortunately they are being squeezed by the Petcos of the world. Do not be fooled by those places that give you bad advice and dont care about fish, support this place!

All about the fish

by Anonymous

I didn't know how good B&D was until I recently tried setting up a new freshwater tank. You see about 13 years ago we decided to get a fish tank and went to B&D since it was the closest place to our house. It was quaint and funky, and we set up a nice 30 gallon tank without much hassle. The only fish we ever lost was due to an Angel fish that got so big it started eating the smaller fish. We had no idea how good we had it with the help from B&D.

Eventually we moved and gave away the tank.

Fast forward 10 years and someone give us a fish at a white elephant party. We knew the 1 gallon bowl was just cruel so we head to the nearest pet store for supplies...Petco. What a mistake.

We bought everything thing they recommended. Then we bought all the chemicals they said we needed when the fish got sick. Then we followed their instructions on how to clean the tank after the first fish died. Then we bought 5 of their "hardy" fish to restock the tank. Then we bought the other chemicals for the new sickness those fish had. Then those fish died.

So I bit the bullet and drove an extra 30 minutes to B&D. Absolutely nothing had changed in 10 years. Same guy behind the counter, same bare-footed, old guy in the back office. I explained my situation. I got a couple tips on cleaning the tank and was asked to come back with a water sample after I cleaned the tank. I came back and they tested the water--which turned out OK. They recommended a couple fish to "test" the tank for a few weeks. Those fish lived like rock stars. We're up to 7 fish now and everything is going fine.

There's nothing fancy about B&D and it's a like stepping back into the 70's, but these guy have great fish, are very friendly and helpful, and know what their talking about. They're very sensitive to the costs of items and don't try to over sell you.

NO SALTWATER FISH

by Laurie H.

I drove for an hour to this place from the previous reviews. I found my way through all of the construction, just to find that they do not have Saltwater fish anymore, due to they weren't profitable for the company. I don't want to rate it, since I didn't really look around. It seemed small, but with quite a few freshwater aquariums.

Fish haven!

by Kim B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,912

This is by far one of the best tropical fish stores around! It doesn't matter if you are looking for fresh or salt water fish, or other marine critters, this is the place for you to come. They are very friendly and helpful, and more than willing to answer any questions that you might have. We got our first tank and the fish kept dying, and they explained that we had the wrong water ph, we are no happy to say that we haven't lost a fish since!

PROS: wide variety of fish and marine animals, very knowledgable
CONS: parking

Hippie Man/Fish Man!

by Garrett M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,860

This is an awesome little fish store. If you keep fish tanks, whether salt or freshwater, you definatly need to check this store out! The owner has the best quality, and healthiest fish around, not to mention he has a wonderful variety of both fish and other live water creatures. The health of the animals is impeccable. He is very helpful and knowledgable, and will help you get set up or solve problems. His prices are reasonable. Be on the lookout for an older man, looking like he just stepped out of Woodstock (bare feet and all!). He's the man to help you!
