COMPLAINT REPORTED TO BBB (BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU)

We have purchased a humidifier from "SHIN SHIN ENTERPRISE" on October 18th, 2011 and found that the product (dehumidifier) was not working properly after using it for about 3 days. So, on the October 24th, 2011, my wife and I went to the store to exchange the defected product with the new one (we provided the original receipt of the purchase) thinking that there wouldn't be any problem since the product certainly had problems. This is where the problems started.
First, I explained what the problem was with the humidifier by plugging it in to the outlet and showed her that it was not working properly (it was very clear that the product was not working properly with breaks in the mist that was coming out of its output device), but the owner of the store first denied that she sees anything wrong with it. We stood there for about 5 minutes explaining over and over about how the actual mist stream should not be broken like ours was. There were people watching me and my wife like we're crazy or something. I never felt so ashamed that we were being treated like some thieves that were trying to get something for free.
Second, after explaining to her for several minutes, I asked the owner of the store about how this return policy and our situation was very ridiculous and it needed to be fixed right away, since we paid for the product which we expect to get a product in good condition as with anything anyone would purchase for their hard earned money. After this dispute, I asked her if this is how she treats everyone that comes to return something that is not working properly, then she made a very irritated gesture and started shuffling through the new boxes.
The second problem started here. She then took the new box and started pulling pieces out from it and told us that she figures that is one of the piece that is broken so take the new piece that she just taken out from the new box. I do not understand why she would take something from a new box and try to substitute it with the piece that we had to begin with nor do I think that she has the technical knowledge to pin point the problem. What really bothers me here is that I strongly believe that she was going to put my defected product back into that new box and try to sell it to someone else. I asked her why she isn't just exchanging the defected box that I have brought with a new one, and then she just got really angry and told us to just get a refund. I really did not appreciate how she was treating me and my wife, which made us feel like we were doing something wrong just because we wanted a simple exchange. I can't believe that store such as "SHIN SHIN ENTERPRISE" is actually operating in this town, while treating its' customers like garbage.

I went to Shin Shin to look for christmas presents. They have many asian cookware sets and utensils to pick from. Variety and diversity is definately there. Aisles are way to small. To much stuff in such a small place. Prices reasonable.
