I would like to retract and rescind any/all favorable reviews I have previously written for NE Veterinary Hospital as under no circumstances whatsoever will I ever take another pet there nor would I recommend this establishment to anyone

Our cat was given an injection of Convenia at Northeast Veterinary Hospital which caused many and varied symptoms (treatments which cost over $600+ and many smaller costing visits on top of the initial $200+ bill) that ended up being a bonanza for this practice. I did not want this injection but was overridden. The problem with long acting drugs is that they stay in the body a long time, but even I didn't suspect that this drug stays in the system for 65 days - long after efficacy. Stupid me, I thought 14 days might be bad if there was a problem. If you are interested here is a link of study data -
http://treshanley.com/NewCC/Dangers/page77/page77.html
What really hurts is I believe now that most of the treatment was designed to hide his reaction to this drug - not treat him - when they talked me into euthanasia for fluid build up (a side effect of this drug) they led me to believe he had cancer or heart failure and he wouldn't survive draining the fluid which would be cruel and painful and I should just let him go. At this point I was in for well over $1000 and they probably thought they couldn't get too much more out of me. I caved and maybe it was because they insisted that it would be cruel and he was suffering. He fought to live and I wonder if that was really what he wanted - I believe he was trying to tell me something and for the amount they charged me anyway I should have taken the risk with the draining even if they didn't want to do it. This drug was still in his system and given more time he might have recovered - maybe not 100% but who makes it through all the way at 100%?

We've used NE Vets for over 20 years and have had good experiences with most of the vets. We recently started to see Dr. Perchick and are now requesting him for all of our appointments (3 dogs, 1 cat) and we love him! He's helpful, practical and I can tell he loves animals. He helped us solve a quality of life issue for our 15 year old dog (and us) with a very simple solution that was not costly. We're so happy he joined this clinic.

For the past 5 years, we've driven across town to bring our little monster here. Our furball is a real gentleman until he gets to the vets, when he transforms from mild mannered Dr Jekell to an all teeth and claws Mr Hyde in about 90 seconds. The Doctors and staff here are GREAT. They are gentle but firm and we've never had a bad experience.

The reviewers who posted negative comments couldn't be more wrong. The Asian lady they are referring to is Dr. Amy Ward, and she is incredible.

My dog developed a spinal problem several months ago and slowly started to lose the ability to walk. Dr. Ward did everything she possibly could to help my dog and was always kind and compassionate. When my dog took a turn for the worse and could no longer get out of bed, Dr. Ward came to my house on a Friday night with a handful of dog biscuits and put my dog to sleep at home so she wouldn't have to die in the hospital. When it was all over, she gave me a big hug. How many vets do you know who would do that?

Northeast Veterinary and Dr. Ward are amazing and I am truly grateful to them for the care they gave me and my beloved dog. I recommend them without hesitation.

I have been taking dogs to this clinic since I was a kid (50 years!) and have always received excellent care. I like the fact that they send reminders when one of the dogs is due for a check-up or vaccine. I LOVE the fact that you can get an appointment so quickly. I typically see whichever vet is available and have always had a good experience. They have seen me through the aging, illness and deaths of a succession of dogs over the course of the years. Since I haven't used any other vet, I can't really compare. But I am completely happy with the care my dogs have received.

I've been taking various dogs and cats to this clinic for over 10 years, and I have always found the care to be outstanding. I read a couple of negative reviews here, and I have to say that they make the clinic sound outright incompetent. This has not been my experience at all. One time I had a problem with what one of the vets did. I believe the vet was new as I had not seen her there before. I also believe that vet is no longer there. At any rate, I returned to the clinic with my animal, and Dr. Reeves personally, professionally, and quickly took care of the problem. In addition, I was not charged for the service or medicine. All in all, I have been completely satisfied with their service and level of care, as well as their demeanor and obvious love of animals. There are always going to be a few problems, but Dr. Reeves and the rest of the crew have always been amazingly resilient and responsive. A good vet is hard to find. These guys are great.

We have been taking our three Bichons there for many years, along with about 20 other rescued Bichons and a couple old rescued office cats. When we rescue a Bichon, we have had to call with urgent situations and they ALWAYS figured out a way to accommodate us. The front staff is busy, but if they cannot get to us immediately they at least acknowledge our presence. We have always been delighted with the care our little buddies have received there. One of the things we like best there is that the vets take a few minutes to explain everything in detail and to answer our questions. I like doctors and veterinarians who are teachers as well as practitioners, as my wife and I are naturally curious. The vets there certainly meet that requirement. They have always been friendly and courteous, no matter how busy they are. Our file there is very thick! We have recommended them many times and will continue to do so. We appreciate how much of the staff recognize us which makes us feel welcome. The only negative thing I have to say, and I hate saying this, is to avoid Dr. Ward.

Scotties are my kids. They also have a number of medical issues, probably from breeding etc. One has been lymphoma, taking my dogs in their 7th or 8th year. Dr. Reeves had a calm, practical approach to their care, without painful heroics. He kept them well with some alternate therapies and extended their good life by nearly 2 years. When the time came to make that awful decision, he helped us handle that time. For a compassionate, well grounded, vet to help guide you in your decisions for a pet with a life threatening disease, I will choose no one else. For a good systematic wellness clinic, all of the vets have been gentle to the pets and to use for being worry-warts.I recommend NE Vet, and especially Dr. Reeves, as a 1st choice for animal wellness and disease diagnosis and treatment.I will agree that the front desk can be rushed and maybe a bit sour at times. However, have you been for your health care needs and encountered similar front desk personnel. It must be the position and having to deal with the public. **that's a hard job**

Dr. Reeves is as good a vet as you'll find anywhere in my opinion. He cares and he provides great care. The vet-assistants were also excellent with our dog. Cost was reasonable too.

Our 12-year old dog was diagnosed with a parathyroid gland problem. We were going to a different vet and they kept doing test after test, then told us surgery might cost $5000! We could not afford this but then we found Dr. Reeves who told us we did not need many of the tests that our former overpriced vet had recommended and charged us a fair price for the surgery our dog needed. (Removal of a parathyroid gland) Our dog was in overnight and the surgery was done perfectly, full recovery in only a couple of weeks. Our dog thanks Dr. Reeves to the chance at several more years of life, and we recommend him and his clinic very highly.

I notice some complaints here because the receptionist wasn't friendly enough? My experience is, they were businesslike, but I don't expect to become friends with a busy receptionist. I think you can expect a very professional clinic, but not handholding at this hospital. But, the excellent care is well worth it.

I've been using NE Veterinary Hospital for the last two years and I can't find anything to complain about. The vets have been kind, compassionate, and have given good care to our animals (both dogs and cats). They work with me to make sure that the best decisions are made. The front desk staff is often busy, and when they can't help me right away they at least signal that they know I'm there and will get to me soon. I would take my pets there just for the quality of care, but I really love that they offer evening hours - that really helps me with my work schedule.

We've been taking our dog and cat here for 5 years now, and I have always loved the vets here. They're open late, the vets explain everything well and they're never too busy to answer questions. Our old vet was out in West Seattle, and I can't begin to describe how much better this group is.

I was referred to this hospital by my friend and I would absolutely recommend it to others. The vets are very nice and caring. They are great with the animals and the prices are right compared to other places I have gone to before. My cat even liked it. Everything was easy going for her and aside from getting a shot (which I don't like to get them either!) they made her feel really comfortable and calm.

Agree with earlier comments about reception desk -- aren't always as customer friendly as other clinics.

Dr. James Reeves, however, is outstanding & well worth the effort of dealing with front office staff. Thoughtful and caring vet with exceptional diagnostic skills. I appreciate that he doesn't push expensive testing before really understanding the problem. I have been to other vets who easily charge $1000+ for upfront tests which don't yield any more information or answers than before the tests were administered.

On more than one occasion I've brought my dog to this facility for check-ups and emergent circumstances, and in both types of circumstances, I felt the staff responded positively and treated my dog with the utmost care.

The front desk is very busy as expected. They are usually rather abrupt with me on the phone when I need to schedule an appointment, but not always. In one personal experience I had with an emergency, a front desk staff member quickly took my information for a call-back, and I promptly received a call from a licensed professional regarding my emergency issue which I appreciated. They were also able to squeeze me in for an appointment which was a great relief to me.

I've had appointments with more than one veterinarian there and they all seem very well educated and make sure to ask me if I have any questions. They have a very gentle way about them which I think is comforting for my hyper-wary dog.

Overall, I've had mostly positive experiences at the Northeast Veterinary Hospital. They provide quality care whether it be in a routine check-up or urgent situation.

PROS: Top-notch veterinarians, excellent medical care for your dog, flexible
CONS: Very busy reception, sometimes comes across as too abrupt

I have had both good and bad experiences here. The vets are great and they are especially good with our, somewhat cranky, dog. They are generally able to squeeze you in for an emergency and I love that they have weekend hours. However, my one complaint is with the front desk staff. Calls to make an appointment or to ask a question are often handled by people who just can't really be bothered. This is not really a big deal when you are calling to make an appointment, but can be very frustrating if you are calling with a serious (or what you think is serious) question or concern about your pet's health.
