Utrecht Art Supplies

It doesn't matter what medium you are working with, Utrecht will have supplies for you and for a good price. Their staff is very smart, helpful and nice.

I am not a professional artist but I like to dabble here and there. For me Utrecht has everything I need - plus some. They have a wonderful selection of paper - I'm a sucker for paper. All of this is for a good price. If, however, you are a professional and you need something a little more specific, you may want to call ahead - their specialty item selection is not vast. Great location...

I'm not a professional artist, but when I need supplies, Utrecht has everything I need and a lot more. This is a pretty good sized store with professional quality stuff. You might find better prices if you hunt around, but that's about the only criticism I can make. The store is also in a very cool older building.

I find that although the Capitol Hill Utrecht is definately small and doesn't always have what I need in stock, it is a wonderful resource for those us on the hill who can't drive to other art supply stores. It's a perfect location really. Also, I would have to agree strongly with the previous reviewer who said that many art areas/genres were represented. Although there isn't a vast selection of items for each area (painting, paper arts, lithography, drawing, and more), they do have the basic tools and necessities for each of the areas. They also have a good selection of canvasses, frames, and fine papers.

PROS: Necessities are definatley available, although selection not vast, which is nice. Awesome fine paper selection (colored wrapping paper, handmade/fine art craft paper?). Very frendly staff.
CONS: Not a vast selection of items. Some items seem more pricey compared to other art stores.

Utrecht carries very high quality materials including paint by Golden Acrylics. Their house brand is also high end without the high end price. The best aspect to Utrecht is their competitive pricing. Several times I have done price comparisons with the other local retailers on key materials I use from various brands and every time Utrecht has come out on top.

If you are looking for rare colors or very niche products Utrecht may not be the place for you but for excellent prices and service on professional grade materials there is none better in town.

This store is large enough to provide plenty of browsing space yet small enough to provide the friendly, helpful service you would hope to find in a neighborhood shop. It seems that supplies for most disciplines are well represented. Without being pushy, I was asked whether I'd care to sign up for their mailing list which brings the advantage of notifying me of special sales and upcoming classes. Convenient location near downtown.

PROS: Open Mon-Fri 9-7, Sat 10-7, Sun 11-6.
CONS: Street parking, mostly at meters.
