Would not recommend if you are not familiar with Korean cuisine. One fun note is that you can barbeque your own food at your table. I didn't like the food.

considering the korean food market/restaurant is quite limited in the eastside, its not too shabby. the food is decent. putting quality onto price, maybe its worth i!

With a homestyle restaurant like this one, I never expect fantastic service or great atmosphere-- just good food. We bbq'd in the table with 2 kinds of beef, and the food came out really fast and was very good. The bbq included rice, miso, beef, a green salad, large leaves of red-leaf lettuce, raw garlic and jalapeno, miso paste, and many other little vegetable dishes, all unique and tasty. You take the beef off the grill when it's done and wrap the rice, beef, and garlic, etc in lettuce and eat with your hands, it's so fun. The waiter was kind, friendly (but I think that in any restaurant, the customer should smile first) and helpful. They tended to our water and tea, snipped the meat for us into edible sizes, and shut off the gas to our table grill just when we finished. It wasn't crowded but most of the patrons looked Asian, which is a good sign for a Korean restaurant. The total bill was $40 including tip, which is a great deal for a fresh, fast korean bbq. My only complaint was that it was very cold sitting by the window. Not a problem when the grill is on, but once we were done cooking it got chilly fast! Anyway, I would definitely go back, especially when I'm hungry!

Great food - Mackerel ; pancakes; stews; etc.
Note that each table has a buzzer - so if you need help, use it. Some write-ups did not seem to know how you summon the wait staff.
If you want to know more about the food, ask - they can find someone who speaks your language.

I came here for dinner one evening. The restaurant was somewhat busy, but we were seated promptly. The staff was a bit difficult to understand, with their accents, but friendly and patient with us while we ordered. We split the #25 (can't recall the actual name), which was a "casserole" with beef, mushrooms, onions, and an amazingly tasty broth. I just couldn't believe how wonderful it was. They also brought out 6 small side dishes with it, which had kimchi, sprouts in sesame oil, some pickled vegetables, and a couple of other things. It was a very good variety. I liked that I was able to have the varied tastes, some refreshing, some hot, some rich. The service after we ordered was a bit slow and not as friendly as the first waitress, but still adequate. The bill arrived slowly as well. I still would go back, just for that dish. Of all the Korean food that I've had, that really was the best. I still drool just thinking about it.

We had to request miso soup which is supposed to come w/ the meal. Then, they tossed the meat (pork belly) onto the grill instead of letting us to take our time to grill our food. That was the whole purpose of going there to eat. The waitresses do not have any smile and poor verbal skills so I wonder they probably do not speak English. The food overall was okay because I love Korean food so I can't complain.

Please pay attention to this part - they 'recycle' their food. When we were exiting and paying at the front counter, one of the waitress brought lettuce to the food counter by the kitchen instead of throwing the leftover away to the trash. The lettuce was from the table sat by us, the customers have left us few min. ahead of us. I then told my friends and they said Southgate recycles everything (from kimchi to meat) so don't eat there. OK, that's a just rumor because I didn't witness that myself but that's a risk if you go there to dine.

Don't go! If you need good Korean food, make the drive to the good stuff on Highway 99!
