Al's Music Video & Games

I have had mostly good luck there. They have good product turn-over where it is worth going once a month to see new things. And their price is on par with the others.

One caution I will toss out is that their stereo components are not well-tested. Over the years I have purchased perhaps about 6 components there, and at least three had trouble. But in fairness, they were happy to exhange and let me test out the replacement units before leaving the store. It is a small hassle, but they always be sure you are happy in the end.

I like them. Try them out.

I'm not one to bad-mouth a business, but this place reeks of some kind of noisome odor not befitting any shopping experience. What is that smell? They have a box of videos all mashed together near the front door as if anyone cares. Across the street there's a good new/used CD store and if you're selling, there's a great place called Second Time Around at 42nd and University.

Al's sort of seems like it's a lower grade record shop than the other places around, but they of course get good stuff in every once in a while. I've found unexpected stuff in the import section, for example, and they also have other stuff like used music gear and cheap used videos.

This is a cool store if you are into finding vintage or old school dj and electronic items. They have a pretty big selection and the people are always happy to help.

This is probably the most quality second hand/pawn/electronics/record/cd/dvd/videogame/music instrument shop in the area. The staff is usually friendly and always helpful, and there is a great revolving selection of used records for djs and collectors. There is a healthy selection of DVD's too. Look for great deals on guitars, portable music players, and stereo equipment too, as far as second hand/pawn shops go.
