My husband and I went to dinner at the Proctor location on a friday night (12/3/10), as I am a photographer I, of course, brought my camera along (as to not leave it in the car). We were seated at a table near the window and against the wall. I sat down and set my camera between the wall and my foot on the floor, and then my purse and scarf on top. We were the very last customers to leave at about 9:45, (they close at 9:30) and we paid and thanked the owner and were on our way. At about 10:30 I realized I left my camera on the floor there. I didn't panic though, because I figured we were the last ones there and we could simply go in first thing at opening and retrieve it. Upon going back in the morning, before opening even, we were told that no one had seen it. The owner himself was our server and he told us that him and his father vacuumed the floors after we left and nothing was found. He seemed very unconcerned, and simply said, well "that's too bad you lost it". I left my phone number and contact information (((which was taped up on the inside of a cabinet door of their "lost and found" with many other notices like mine))) in case it came up through out the day. I didn't hear anything so I returned later that night (12/4/10) to check, thinking perhaps they were too busy to call. Still, there was nothing. Now, at that point I had considered all the options, what if I didn't bring it in? what if I left it in the car? what if, what if? However, I am aboslutely positive that I brought it in. I remember exactly where I set it, and almost knocking it on the doorway coming in, before being seated. And for the owner to say that none of his employees have seen it and it was not put in their "lost and found" is very suspicious. I was very patient with him and said thank you for cooperating and looking around for me. Again, last night (12/5/10) I went to check to see if anything had been seen, and when I politely asked he and a young lady server began yelling quite loudly in the middle of the restaurant telling me to leave or they were going to call the police on me. I began to try and calm him saying "Sir, I'm not accusing you, please listen..." and he continued to scream at me and my husband telling us to leave. And so we did. This is horrible for my husband and I for more than just the loss of our camera. We were regulars there and always recommended them to anyone who wanted good Thai food. I was under the impression that East and West was a good loyal community restaurant and that their cutomers were their first priority. I was very much so proved wrong by the owners poor behavior. My main concern is not the cash value of the camera but the sentimental value of the 2000+ photos on the memory card inside. I was even daring enough to give them my address, stating that if, for SOME reason it popped up that I didn't care if someone HAD in fact taken it but to please, please return it to me, or at least drop the memory card in my mail slot. I begged him, and he simply shooed me away. I am aware and have taken responsibility for the fact that it was my fault to have forgotten it, especially with it being such an important piece of me. However, I feel very betrayed and disappointed with this business owner and his staff. I simply want other patrons to be aware of what MAY be going on here at this restaurant and to PLEASE not leave anything valuable behind.

We've visited E&W at their location near Tacoma Mall since they were squeezed into the maze of an old home's rustic spaces. Always kind and cheerful greetings and service, lovely interpretations of many favorite Asian dishes (not your standard fluorescent-orange mucilage when you order a sweet and sour dish here), and a very pretty newer space make it well worth revisiting. The Tom Ka Gai is the best I've had anywhere.

Extremely good Thai food here! There are no bad dishes and the service and wait staff are very nice! I always have a friendly waiter or waitress and the wait times are not bad at all. Prices are average, around $8-10 for a dish but WELL worth it! There aren't a whole lotta places in the South Puget Sound like this or as good as this.

PROS: Food, staff, atmosphere
CONS: prices-not too bad though

I have been to the East & West cafe numerous times and the food and service is consistently the best I've had anywhere. The menu is a balanced mix of many fine cuisines and everything I've tasted is very good and fresh.

Excellent spring rolls, fresh and fried. Would like to see more authentic Vietnamese offerings (i.e. shrimp on sugarcane). Crepe dish lacked flavor, had too much beansprouts. Service is consistently friendly and competent. Overall, nice Vietnamese restaurant in the Tacoma area.
