Agreed. The Lowe's on Rainier Ave. S. is quite possible the worst retail store in the United States. I'm an avid handyman so I spend a lot of time in stores like these, unfortunately this Lowe's is pretty close to my house and I hate traffic so I often subject myself to this store. I probably lose 2-3 IQ points every time I have to interact with the employees so I avoid that if I can. This is not a joke, the store really is that bad.
Loews has a selection to rival Home Depot and may be closer for city dwellers. It doesn't have quite the aggressive friendliness of HD, but if you just need to get your supplies and go, this is a good place. The Loews building is located on the site of a historic baseball stadium, and there's a small display in the lobby talking about it.
PROS: large selection
CONS:
If customer service is not important to you, be sure to stop by the Rainer branch of Lowes. My husband and I have practically made Lowes our 2nd home while remodeling our house. Why do we continue to subject ourselves to the insurrection of uninformed, zombie-like staff? Lowes is closer than Home Depot.
PROS: Close to home. If you live close to Lowe's on Rainier.
CONS: Staff unwilling to help, uninformed, poor delivery service, inefficient...
